hi,
has anyone of you tried to run imported discs using the swaptrick?
i did that when trying the us-dc-mag gdrom with the new 1.1 browser
they distributed there. it's basically resetting the clock and
then swapping the discs after they have spindled down.
anyway, what i found was that the us browser does download vmu files
with a european SEGA checksum. either they have taken off the
restriction
or the browser behaves differently in a european dc.
actually the ACCESS browser in europe is much better in quality than
that american one, at least in my opinion. it tried to play around with
borders and does not have these nice R1/L1 menues.
what may be of interest to european dc users is that you can change
the provider to use for dialling in with that american browser! and
after
you switched back to the DreamKey disc the european browser uses that
new provider to connect to the net. one drawback: you cannot go into
the DreamArena. at least not in germany, where viag interkom uses a
private
192.168.* net for the dc-dialin and probably firewalled/proxied all the
connections to the net.
it's worth getting the march issue of dc-mag from the us as it contains
some
other nice demos and the chu-chu and sega swirl game ;-)
