maybe i should encode gif directly. the picture are small enough
to be no problem without compression and it would be more portable
as the current solution of calling an external program.

would it make sense to put stuff like the vmi/vms file functions
and maybe the dcm tools stuff into a "libvmu.a". if written
portable you could then write more sophisticated programs with
a "gui" and don't care about the innards.

:-) i just see john's vmu gong game with marcus icon. looks like
we are not alone.
