What really killed NEC's chances here was the
simple fact that they weren't willing to pour in the
amount of money they needed. The PC-Engine had killer
games like the best versions of Castlevania and Street
Fighter II, but the costs of bringing these here were too
high. They never took the U.S. market seriously. The
PC-Engine was tops for a while in Japan and I guess they
were happy enough with that.<br><br>Also throw in the
simple fact was that Nintendo had a monopoly at the
time. Capcom wanted at least $100,000 before even
negotiating the release here of SFIICE. You're right about
Sega, even if it was bad advertising, anything is
better than nothing. Although the neon green and orange
of the TG-16 was umm an interesting choice of color.
