The thing about T3K is that it basically keeps
the gameplay intact, while adding just enough to
thicken the mix ;)<br><br>There are new enemies, some of
which are real buggers, some really nasty new webs,
rotating webs (triggered by one of the new enemies, once
you get rid of it, the web returns to normal), the
addition of the ability to HOVER (which replaces T2K's
jump), new weapons (HOMING MISSLES), etc. Quite a bit,
not to mention the new tunes (and the T2K Soundtrack
remixed versions of the old ones), which do add quite a
bit. And the graphics, well, you'll see them soon
enough.<br><br>As for DVD players, well, right now the NUON ones
are quite affordable. The Toshiba SD2300 (only 8 VLM
effects...ugh) has been dropped to $249.99 at Best Buy, with the
Samsung N2000 (Extiva) as low as $219.99 on-line. The new
Samsung N501 has already hit selected store shelves, and
is available for as little as $189.99. If PRICE is
the main thing, you might want to wait for the
Oritron DVD900, which should hit at less than $150, and
will undoubtedly be the best Oritron model available,
pciture-quality and otherwise.
tildanet.com now has affiliates. If you've got a

our affiliates list on the frontpage. Later,<br><br>

Nice Tempest 3000 screenshots here.<br><br>You
have some nice Tempest 3000 screenshots in the PHotos
section here. It looks good :) I'm sure the graphics and
sound of it add a lot to the game, since the original's
graphics and sound are part of the whole experience. I'm
sure the added gamepley features are great too. What
are they exactly?<br><br>If I get a DVD player it
will be a NUON one unless I get a cheap one. I
probably won't get a cheap one though cause my PC can
probably play DVDs bettter than cheap DVD
players.<br><br>------------------<br>Q3A

I just posted some new screens of the recently
revealed Space Invaders XL & Monopoly, as well as some new
IS3 shots. IS3 looks about the same, although
transparencies and shading appear nicer. <br><br>Space Invaders
XL is a bit of a let down. I was expecting a port of
the Playstation or N64 version at the very least, but
instead it seems to be a nearly pixel-per-pixel port of
the old Super NES game. While that isn't a terrible
thing in terms of gameplay, graphically, well, this
isn't the game to play when you want to show someone
what your NUON-enabled DVD player can do. Ballistic
does a better job of that...<br><br>Monopoly on the
other hand looks quite nice, very polished, and should
fill that party game slot everyone needs, at least for
the time being (where's online Jeopardy ;)
<br><br>These should be the next three games released, as all
are slated for Q2 2001, which means May or June.
Aside from that, e3 is coming up, and while VM Labs is
not exhibiting there this year, they have made known
that they will make several big software announcements
during the course of the show. K3V over at the NUON Dome
has caught wind of these and has stated that NO ONE
WILL BE DISAPPOINTED. If that is indeed the case, this
will be the first e3 in 4 years where disappointment
concerning NUON did not occur. Cross your finger...
Congratulations on your new purchase. Hope you
enjoy all the extra DVD features (minus the screen fit,
which is pretty useless). And if you're into games, be
sure to check out Tempest 3000 and FreeFall 3050 A.D.
Both unique games with great gameplay AND graphics.
VLM2 is also killer, especially in Random Energy mode.
Hi,<br>I just brought my first Nuon DVD player.
It is the Samsung DVDN2000. Amazon.com is selling it
for 219.99 & I brought it. I just got tired off
waiting for the N-501 & Oritron DVD900 to come out. Now I
own a Nuon enhanced DVD player.
Hey I know this is a bit off topic but I know you
guys love psychadelic and musical games like Tempest
3000, aswell as old style gameplay.<br>So, you gotta
check this free game out now, it's amazing really
:)<br>You will thank me I'm sure :)<br><br>Just make sure
you set the sound in the menu to 16 bit and use the
keyboard, not the mouse
:)<br><a href=http://www.chaotica.u-net.com/home.htm

different visual modes.<br>I tell
you this is the kind of stuff that NUON could do with
:)<br>It's an Asteriods type game and what a
trip!<br><br>There's another good old-new game out for download too
<a href=http://pompom.org.uk/ target=new>http://pompom.org.uk/</a><br><br>Thanks
to Tony Mott on Digitiser (Teletext UK Channel 4

speaks volumes - especially given how long NUON DVD

market.<br><br>--------------------<br><br>NUON-enhanced DVD players have only
been on the market about 7
months. Studios obviously weren't going to release DVD's
with NUON content on them when there weren't any
players that could play them. They adopted a "wait and
see" attitude to see if (first) machines incoprorating
NUON would actually be released (and not be relegated
to vaporware), and (second) if sales on these
machines were good (so that they could justify the time
and money investment to add NUON features). Now that
both of these criteria have been satisfied, you are
starting to see NUON-enhanced movies coming
out.<br><br>Yes, only one title has been announced so far, but
this is just the tip of the iceberg. I am certain more
titles will be announced soon. DVD Review, who just
recently gave high praise to the Toshiba SD2300 in their
review of that machine
(<a href=http://www.dvdreview.com/html/toshiba_sd-2300.html
target=new>http://www.dvdreview.com/html/toshiba_sd-2300.html</a>), hinted that
at least five studios are working on
NUON-enhanced movies.<br><br>Now, here comes the even better
part. VM Labs anticipated that people like yourself
would question the usefulness of NUON enhancements if
they could only be applied to DVD's designed
specifically for the hardware. So, they made it possible for
certain NUON features to be applied to ANY DVD movie--a
very wise decision, indeed. The onscreen menu
overlays, smooth forward and reverse scanning, smooth zoom
(with filtering and anti-aliasing), multi-angle
thumbnails, and strobe view are all available when playing
ordinary discs.<br><br>As far as other features go,
there's the video game playing aspect, which people have
already discussed in other messages here. I agree with
the other posters who said that there is nothing
wrong with the quality of NUON games. The quantity is a
different issue--there are only five games out now, and
roughly 20 others scheduled to be released this year. So,
anyone buying a NUON deck solely as a gaming system is
going to have a very limited selection of games.
However, since you have a PlayStation, this shouldn't be
an issue, because you can always buy games for that
system. If you do get a NUON player, I would still
encourage you to try some of the games, because they are
very good (especially the NUON-exclusive
games).<br><br>If you like listening to music CD's, then you'll
love the Virtual Light Machine (or VLM for short). The
original VLM was a popular feature on the Atari Jaguar CD,
and now it's even better on NUON. In a nutshell, the
VLM creates beautiful lightshows on your TV screen
that accompany the music. The graphical effects are
reactive, and change in accordance to the tonal qualities
of the music. You might have seen similar lightshows
with audio player programs on your computer, but I
think many will agree with me that VLM is among the
best.<br><br>Now you have plenty of good reasons to buy a
NUON-enhanced DVD player!
• Quake III: Arena<br>• Doom3<br>• Quake2<br>•
Defender<br>• Chaos Engine 1 & 2<br>• Speedball 2<br>• Aliens
vs Predator arcade widescreen version -like Final
Fight<br>• New adventure games like Monkey Island and
Beneath A Steel Sky<br>• Bushido Blade -a new version.
Well everbody leaped to the defense of Nuon games
but I guess I'm missing something. This is not a game
system correct? Since this is primarily a DVD player
that also plays games - what are the enhanced DVD's
going to do? At the very least, can someone tell me
what they will be capable of? I'm not bashing the NUON
games. I have PSX and will eventually get PS2 when the
price comes down. However, I'm just trying to find out
why, other than gameplay, should I buy a NUON enhanced
"DVD" player. I think the fact that no one has been
able to come up with even the name of a second Nuon
enhanced DVD speaks volumes - especially given how long
NUON DVD players are on the market.

Hello to all of the enlightened!<br>Does anyone
know when the new Samsung player is coming out? I was
just about to buy the one out at the moment but heard
a new one should be coming out soon. Does anyone
know exactly when?
The sequel to Aliens versus Predator (PC version)
would be way cool. With multiplayer capabilities via
the broadband modem connection, of course. One can
dream. I'll buy the PC version if/when it comes out
anyways.
Hello,<br>The gaming part of Nuon sounds good but
what games would you like to see on Nuon. Well, I
don't care how many games come out on Nuon as long as
the games are fun. Well, I would like to see games
such as Thief, Tomb Raider, old games from the
1980's/early 1990's espically old NES games.
Hello,<br>I do not own a Nuon right now but I am
thinking about purchasing a Nuon DVD player. The Nuon DVD
player that I am thinking about purchasing is the
Oritron DVD900 when it comes out. The Oritron DVD900 has
a MSRP of about $200 & the street price would
probely be around $150. IMO, the Oritron DVD900 could
bring the NUON technology to more people. BTW: I own an
Oritron 100 right now.
The New Republic 2001 contest at Castle NUON has
begun! There will be a secret URL you'll have to find
which will change daily for about a week. The main
prize: A free copy of Iron Soldier 3. There is another
thing or two included for the winner as well, but it's
really about IS3. For details, visit<br><A

Well, I'll put Tempest 3000 up against any other
recent shooter as far as gameplay or graphics go. It's a
top-notch game by any standards. Of course, it's on NUON,
so the rags will overlook it.<br><br>As far as the
rest of the lineup, well, it's not stellar. Merlin
Racing is decent, but not great, Freefall is hard to get
into at first, and Ballistic and the Next Tetris are
simple looking but addictive puzzlers (ported over from
the Playstation). From what I see, VM Labs is trying
to basically port over quality titles while grabbing
some from more obscure platforms that won't be seen
anywhere else, in addition to the stuff they're doing
in-house. No, it won't compare to the Dreamcast or PS2's
lineup, but with all games at $25, it's not bad either.
<br><br>The price of the unit won't be a concern much longer
either, with both Oritron & LG Electronics releasing
units that will be in the $150-$200 range...
I totally agree. If you're looking for a good
game system, just pick up a DC, ps2, PsOne, or Xbox
(upon release). Because, well, for NUON DVD players,
gaming is merely a novelty, therefore the games are
bound to be subpar, (no offense to hardcore NUON
advocates), merely because gaming is notthe primary focus of
the device. Now, on the DVD side, the extra's ain't
worth it. If you want a DVD player, pick up a cheap
one, or a PS2.
And what specifically makes you think the games
are going to be subpar when compared to typical games
platforms? That the graphics aren't the latest 6 million
Polygons per second type of games? If you're looking for
the latest Tekken release or clone or snowboarding
game or Mario platformer than no, you probably won't
find those types of standard, overdone to ad nauseum,
me-too types of games on the Nuon platform. What you
will find are true-gamers type of games that are
unique and not rehashes of the most popular genres
(fighting, sports, driving, 3d action, undead shooters).
You'll find great games with fun gameplay that you don't
find in many modern games nowadays. Games like Tempest
3000 or FreeFall 3050 a.d., which can stand up to the
latest the big boys put out now in unique graphics and
gameplay.<br><br>And note: I'm not trying to be a system advocate. I
own a Jaguar with Jag CD, a PSX (the original), and a
Dreamcast with a decent amount of games for each. And will
probably get a PS2 when a game worth buying comes out
(read: Wipeout Fusion). It's just that I get tired of
uniformed potential gamers dissing a system because it
doesn't have the latest greatest 3d graphics,
etc.<br><br>And I'm being realistic here. I don't expect Nuon to
be a major player in the games system market. What
it does is offer you a good DVD player with extra
DVD options most normal DVD players don't have along
with a few unique, interesting games that won't be
available on other platforms. I also don't expect the Nuon
platform to have multitudes of game titles out there
anytime in the near future. So for those looking for a
game system primarily and not a DVD player might want
to look to Sony, Sega, or Nintendo.<br><br>As far as
the movies, I think one more besides Bedazzled was
announced to be released in the spring. Time will tell when
they are released whether these Nuon-enhancements will
be considered worthwhile. They will probably be
somewhat similar to enhancements on DVD discs that can be
used in PC DVD-ROM drives now along with other
features. You might want to wait until the films actually
come out and get people opinions then before plunking
down the $$$.
Seems clear that the games are going to be subpar
compared to the traditional game platforms (Sony,
Nintendo, etc.) but does anyone know what enhancements to
expect from the DVD movies? I know Bedazzled is
scheduled to be the first Nuon enhanced title. Has anyone
heard of any others? I wouldn't buy a Nuon enhanced DVD
player for the gaming nor the anticipated online surfing
(I have a cpu) but I'm wondering if the enhanced
DVD's will be worth it. Any thoughts?
Here's an updated release list of known games.

Check out Gamefans December issue. It has a fair
and honest review of Freefall! THe issue before it
had a 3 page preview! They said they would have
reviewed Tempest 3000, but the some stupid people at VM
Labs are shutting magazines out like Gamefan by not
submitting the games to them for reviews. Now Gamefan
(R>I>P) is gone and so is the magazine that could of
helped the Nuon the most.
Nope, all the games got below par reviews (xcept
T3K, which got a... 6.5 i think). It's a shame. Hey,
does anyone here ever visit www.sega2000.net ? I just
visited and they said they were shutting down :-( really
sux. They were a great site. Anyone who will, I ask
you to post a response on there message boards asking
them to stay up, c'mon, join the fight!
