"We have received many e-mails asking us about the PC USB Light Gun and TV Light Gun after we sold our last unit in 2004. ACT Labs is considering one final manufacturing run for customers still wanting to purchase a unit. As soon as we reach 250 units in pre-orders, we will ask our factory to proceed with production. Because of the small quantity to be manufactured, we have lost our volume discount and prices have increased. ACT Labs thanks you for your support and we hope that we can reach the minimum order quantity shortly. Watch this page for updates."

These are the only decent PC light guns ever made, folks.  Don't miss your chance!

I don't think the game has any option to change the brightness.  But most modern video cards allow you to adjust the brightness levels in the Windows control panel.

Glad to hear about the new version for HOTD 3.  Also does anyone know how to brighten up the game.  I can not see what I am shooting half the time.  (And yes I have turned it up on the TV <GRIN>   )

At the moment, there are no viable alternatives to the Act Labs guns.    I don't think any of the real arcade lightguns can be interfaced with a PC yet, though I do believe somebody somewhere is working on a USB interface for those things.  Personally, I'm keeping my eye on the RGT gun from E-Real Games (http://www.erealgames.com).  So far their gun is only for consoles.  But I've heard that they're working on a PC version.  If that ever comes out, I will make a new version of the Troubleshooter to support the RGT gun.  I will also see what I can do to make it work in MAME.

Subject: [pclightguns] Alternatives to ACT LABS USB GUN????

Hi, I have a wierd question so here goes...I am planning on building
a mame cabinet over the summer.  So I want it to have light
guns...luckily enough I ordered some ACT LABS USB GUNS late last year
expecting to get my building of the mame cabinet underway sooner.  I
also bought a regular TV to use them with.  So anyways enough of my
story here's the question...is the Troubleshooter patch going to be
updated any time soon? or should i give up hope on it? I was hoping
to play some Guncon games in an PSX emulator. Also the ultimate
question is are there any alternative light guns that work in mame and
also games like virtual cop or the house of the dead's? I've seen some
light guns at happs control and arcadeemulator.net but i'm not sure
about the interface with the TV and the computer! If anyone has tried
those guns please tell me your experience!!! Thank you!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I found a cute game called
CHICKEN HUNTER at WalMart. Not a hard game but it is cute. Works
well with the Act guns also.

Go around blasting chickens, they are fishing, flying, even poking a
hornets nest with a stick. It is made by ENCORE software. I can
not find any place that has pics online.

$10 at WalMart, just in with there computer software. Only thing
bad is that you stil need to use a mouse to scroll the screen right
or left.

Later all,

John

Like House of the Dead 2, it does not natively support two players using light guns simultaneously.  But you can use the Act Labs gun for a single player game and it works great.  I will be working hard in the coming week to create a TroubleShooter profile for this game, so that we can use two guns in two player mode.

Still no word an a North American release.  But I ordered my copy from http://gameplay.co.uk. It shipped on Feb 10, and I received it today (Feb 22).

I agree.  I'm not sure the shot guns were the best way to go.  It's a neat gimmick, but they aren't quite as satisfying as the handguns.

I haven't heard of any PC version of VC3.  But you never know.  Sega seem to have taken a moderate interest in PC development again, so maybe one day.

I also really like the old American Laser Games titles (Mad Dog McCree, Who Shot Johnny Rock, etc.).  They're cheesy as hell, but they bring back good memories.

I'm guessing they just weren't selling enough of them to be able to support the cost of production.  They discontinued they're excellent steering wheel for the same reason.  Frankly, I'm surprised they're still selling the TV light guns.  I keep expecting those to disappear as well.  Get 'em while you can folks!

Probably the best gun out there right now is the ACT Labs PC USB
gun, unfortunatelly it's been discontinued and about the only place
you can get one is EBAY (used) and you have to pay an arm and a leg
forit... The gun retailed for about $35.00 your lucky if you get it
for about $150.00... Hope that helps.

Hola gents,

Figured I'd go to the only decent resource left online for such
matters. You guys are great.

I'm running mame in a cab with an arcade monitor via Andy's ArcadeVGA
card. What gun do I need to purchase that is compatible? And is
anyone selling one? lol....I'm VERY interested.

Thanks!

BTW does anyone know how to shut off the cross hairs in Mame 32.  I have tried different thigs but I can not get them to stop showing up.

I could be a prob. with Mame 32 .85  That is the first version that you can not use dual light guns.  I have posted something over on the mame site but I still have not had any replys about it.  Hope they fix it again in the newer versions.

Mike,

Try recalibrating light gun when the game starts. The problem is that
the gun is calibrated for your desktop's resolution and not the
game's resolution.

Hope this helps.
