After messing around for months trying to figure out why my 2nd light
gun (TV version) wouldn't work correctly with mame on my cabinet I
finally found the problem. There was some sort of conflict with my
wireless mouse. I unplugged it and poof everything works great.

Strange that it worked fine with the troubleshooter games though..
Anyways I am now a happy camper!

Hey guys I am looking for a DVD player prg. for the computer that does
not go to a window when you double fire the Act Gun. Anyone know of a
hopefuly free version that I can try out. To top it off it would be
great if I can play DVD images stored on the drive, or else play from
multi drives. Tring to get something together for my cab. that way I
can just have images stored and trigger them.

Thanks,
John

I know this is not anything to do with light guns but you guys find
answers fast so here goes.

Has anyone else noticed that the newer versions of Mame32 (86+) do
not
pull up all of the roms now. For example Asteroids Del. and Star
Castle.

Anyone know a easy fix other than using older versions? Right now I
am looking into diff. front ends.

Thanks guys!! :o)

Just the TV guns.  The PC guns don't have the Player1/Player2 switch that reassigns the buttons.  "MAME Analog Plus" might be able to handle two PC guns though.  It used to, but I don't know if it still does.

Hmmm...  I wonder if there's something screwy about your MAME configuration.  I have WinXP SP2 also, and both guns work exactly as they should in MAME.

Send me your "default.cfg" file, as well as the cfg file for the game you're trying to play.  I'll compare it with mine and see if I can spot anything fishy.

I am using XP pro with SP2 installed all patches and everything up to
date.

It has to be something with MAME because if I run HOTD 3, HOTD 2 or
HOTD 1, Virtual Cop or Vitual Cop 2 using TheTroubleShooter reloading
works fine. Just not with mame... Also the 2nd button on the 2nd
player gun just fires also it doesn't reload. It would be fine if I
could get that to reload somehow I would care about shooting off
screen that much.

I just downloaded the win32 version of mame since I heard that it
worked correctly.

I found that I can now use the 2nd gun "BUT" I have to calibrate it so
it does not see the entire screen then shoot near the bottom right
corner to reload.

With the 1st player gun I can point at the floor or anywhere away from
the screen and it reloads just fine. It's pretty annoying that the 2nd
player Has to point at the corner of the screen. Is this something that
can be fixed? With the troubleshooter I can reload with the 2nd gun
just fine...

Thanks,
Jeremy Skeels

Maybe I am doing something wrong...

Using the current command line version of MAME

1. I Enabled Offscreen Reload.
2. I Emabled Dual Gun Support
3. I Start a game, Area 51, Maximum Force, Ect...
4. I Map the Games Button 1 for each player to Each Guns Trigger.
5. I Calibrate each gun.

I then start the game and I can shoot with both but if I aim the 2nd
gun away from the screen it doesn't reload it just fires a bullet.
Gun 1 workes fine..

Can you post a copy of your Mame.ini file and your game.ini file so I
can see where my glitch lies...

Thanks,
Jeremy

Hmmm.. Just tested this for myself with Area 51/Max Force.  Off-screen reload seems to work fine for both players.  Tested using Mame32 0.96.

Jeremy, you said the off-screen reload wasn't working for gun #2.  Can you be more specific?

It appears that the off-screen reload doesn't work for the Player 2 gun though, so I'll have to look into that.  Other games that don't require off-screen reloading (e.h. Police Trainer, Zero Point, etc.) should work fine though.

much usless still... Guess I can't have it all :-(

If you have the HD space just make a virutual drive.  Then you never need to try and find a crack.  Your computer will think that it has a bunch of CD drives tho.  That is what I use.

As you probaly guessed from my previous posts I run all my lightgun
games on a dedicated mame cabinet. The problem with that is I have to
move a 300+ pound monster out if I want to access the CD rom inside.
My solution is to install all the games via a wireless network and
then get a no cd crack from gamecopyworld.com so I don't need the cd
in the drive to play.

This has worked flawlessly for me up untill now. If I use the cracked
exe file for HOTD3 troubleshooter does not work. It works fine with
the original however if I have the CD in the drive.

Would it be hard to add support for the no cd version of this game?

Also one more suggestion, for dedicated cabinet gamers like myself.
Would it be hard to include a function to remap the games buttons to
ones that are available on the cabinet so I don't have to pull out
the keyboard to start the game or navigate the menues. Another great
feature would be the ability to set an exit game key (Excape) so no
matter what game you are playing you can exit out instantly with one
button.

Currently I use command line wrappers from
http://www.oscarcontrols.com/lazarus/ they let me terminate whatever
program I launch with them with the excape key. I like to completly
avoid a keyboard & mouse if possible on my cabinet.

I think you could open up a whole new audience for the troubleshooter
