If I have some time over the weekend, I'll see if I can do anything about the off-screen reload.  Now that I've had a look under MAME's hood, I can't resist a little more tinkering.  :-)

Awesome, I just got back from a trip and had the chance to try it
out. It works great!

I also downloaded the new version of mame as well, dual lightguns
work now but offscreen reload for gun #2 doesn't making it pretty
much usless still... Guess I can't have it all :-(
