I hope my criticism didn't sound too harsh. It's definitely different,
that's for sure. Keep on modding man.

Sorry to hear you didn't like it. Obviously the aim of the mod wasn't to add any sort of functionality to the NES but just to have something different...
Maybe it's just me, but I think that mod is complete waste of a good
light switch. How is a flip switch better/cooler than the standard
clicky switch and reset button? Painting the NES black was a good idea
though since it takes attention away from the hole on the top.

I was scammed once on ebay. They did nothing, the
second time I was scammed I reported them and didn't
pay for the item. I go to use ebay several months
later and it says I have an unpaid item and I am
kicked off indefinitly. I have never dealt with
anyone less professional.

I think it depends on how big a customer you are. Stuff like--how many
auctions you run, whether you do auctions as "featured" or just go for minimum
cost.
And I've fought with them over auctions that I *knew* were pirated (the
seller even wrote to tell me as much when I questioned him/her!)... and
they did NOTHING.
Weird... I think ebay secretly just messes with certain people in such a
was as to piss us off ;p~

It may not have been eBay's policy but rather Nintendo's complaining that got eBay to pull it. Just don't mention anything about lockout chip or converter and the auction should stand.

Thats bullshit, if I was you I would relist it and simply write something like "upgrades, email for complete description". I can't stand ebay, they've crossed me one too many times with stupid policies

They try to avoid illegal merchandise on the site but sometimes they are
over cautious. I've been bidding on some legit multi cart and they pulled
the auctions thinking they were pirate stuff.

Nope - the blue LED is just for looks. :)
So it turns out eBay decided to cancel my NES auction because of the
disabled lockout chip. It's really ridiculous considering it's
practically 20 year old technology! Sigh.
If anyone is interested in the system and wants to trade, let me know.

That looks pretty cool, but is there any other purpose
to the blue light other than looks? I think the
disabled lock out chip should be your selling point.
I hate the lockout chip.

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while, but figured it was time to
chime in with one of my auctions:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&cate
gory=62054&item=8128653305
It's an NES that I did some modifications on for an upcoming book of
mine. It has a blue LED (done the right way with the proper
current-limiting resistor value to prevent the LED from burning out),
lock-out chip disabled, and a new 72-pin connector. The book will have
details of these hacks, among other things for a bunch of other modern
and classic systems. I'll probably have one or two to give away to the
group, too :)
That's it for now!

There are a few unlicensed NES games (such as the Camerica games) that may not work without the lockout chip. Personally I just snipped pin 4 off and left it at that as there aren't any unlicensed games worth playing (well, Tengen Tetris but they work fine)
Subject: Re: [nesmodifications] NES Lockout Chip almost forgot
Why would you want a switch in the first place? Won't your modified nes play all games once the lockout chip has been disabled? I have a famiclone which obviously doesn't have a lockout chip and it play all of my nes games just fine. Did I just get lucky?

If anyone here installs a switch remember to have the switch either on or off before turning on the nes. flipping the switch with the nes on could cause it to freeze and you would have to restart your game.

All it takes is two pieces of wire, and something to
put between them to keep from shorting the circuit. I
recommend using a round toggle switch from radio
shack. That way you can drill a hole instead of
cutting one. It makes for a much neater or not so
hacked appearance.
