I was scammed once on ebay. They did nothing, the
second time I was scammed I reported them and didn't
pay for the item. I go to use ebay several months
later and it says I have an unpaid item and I am
kicked off indefinitly. I have never dealt with
anyone less professional.

I think it depends on how big a customer you are. Stuff like--how many
auctions you run, whether you do auctions as "featured" or just go for minimum
cost.

It may not have been eBay's policy but rather Nintendo's complaining that got eBay to pull it.  Just don't mention anything about lockout chip or converter and the auction should stand.

Thats bullshit, if I was you I would relist it and
simply write something like "upgrades, email for

They try to avoid illegal merchandise on the site but sometimes they are
over cautious. I've been bidding on some legit multi cart and they pulled
the auctions thinking they were pirate stuff.

Nope - the blue LED is just for looks. :)

So it turns out eBay decided to cancel my NES auction because of the
disabled lockout chip. It's really ridiculous considering it's
practically 20 year old technology! Sigh.

If anyone is interested in the system and wants to trade, let me know.

Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while, but figured it was time to
chime in with one of my auctions:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&cate
gory=62054&item=8128653305

It's an NES that I did some modifications on for an upcoming book of
mine. It has a blue LED (done the right way with the proper
current-limiting resistor value to prevent the LED from burning out),
lock-out chip disabled, and a new 72-pin connector. The book will have
details of these hacks, among other things for a bunch of other modern
and classic systems. I'll probably have one or two to give away to the
group, too :)

That's it for now!

There are a few unlicensed NES games (such as the Camerica games) that may not work without the lockout chip.  Personally I just snipped pin 4 off and left it at that as there aren't any unlicensed games worth playing (well, Tengen Tetris but they work fine)

Why would you want a switch in the first place? Won't your modified nes play all games once the lockout chip has been disabled? I have a famiclone which obviously doesn't have a lockout chip and it play all of my nes games just fine. Did I just get lucky?

If anyone here installs a switch remember to have the
switch either on or off before turning on the nes.
flipping the switch with the nes on could cause it to
freeze and you would have to restart your game.

All it takes is two pieces of wire, and something to
put between them to keep from shorting the circuit. I
recommend using a round toggle switch from radio
shack. That way you can drill a hole instead of
cutting one. It makes for a much neater or not so
hacked appearance.

With the NES lockout chip mod has anyone totally removed the chip
then cut the leg of the chip then replaced it? Also has anyone tried
installing a switch so you can turn the chip on and off?

Don't use small light bulbs, go to radioshack and get
LEDs. They're easy to wire up and they use
signficantly less juice than bulbs do. You can get
them in differet colors.

Good Afternoon!
I am starting into a hobby of modding game systems, and my geeks
and I are pretty excited over it. Does anyone have some suggestions
on how to go about wiring lights into the NES board? I want to run
the lights straight off of the same power, so any suggestions on what
kind of lights to use, how to wire them and so on would be great!
Thanks!

Thanks for all that information. The pictures arent on one of my
websites so I have no control over them. It was just a link to a
page that I thought people would be interested in.

Well, a lot.

AV out. The board marking CIC next to the chip IDs the lockout
chip. The chip you have marked as the lockout is actually a 7404
(or variants) and they are basically hex inverters. You might want
to add that the 2 large chips between the cart connector and the
CPU/PPU are the SRAM chips. Both are 2K each.

next to PPU as "NES-CPU-xx" where xx is the rev number) Rev 11 has
problem with 3rd party unlicensed games and unlicensed famicom
adapter, they won't work at all. It was Nintendo's attempt to block
them. A simple fix is to snip pin 4 of the lockout chip. From the
picture, pin 4 is on the bottom of the CIC chip, 4th pin from the
left.

Nice pictures but there are a few corrections you'd need to make.  Well, a lot.

The lockout chip is wrong, it's the one right between PPU and the AV out.  The board marking CIC next to the chip IDs the lockout chip.  The chip you have marked as the lockout is actually a 7404 (or variants) and they are basically hex inverters.  You might want to add that the 2 large chips between the cart connector and the CPU/PPU are the SRAM chips.  Both are 2K each.

You might want to note the main board is rev 11 (the number is next to PPU as "NES-CPU-xx" where xx is the rev number)  Rev 11 has problem with 3rd party unlicensed games and unlicensed famicom adapter, they won't work at all.  It was Nintendo's attempt to block them.  A simple fix is to snip pin 4 of the lockout chip.  From the picture, pin 4 is on the bottom of the CIC chip, 4th pin from the left.

Rush n Attack cart should be CHR ROM and not SRAM chip and the other large chip is the PRG ROM.  CHR ROM contains the graphic and interfaces directly with the PPU (few NES cart don't have this) while PRG ROM contains the main program.

The 2 little chips on the top are mapper chips using off the shelf logic gate chips.  This were common before Nintendo developed MMC chips.

You have the Zelda all right.

Renegade doesn't have CHRRAM but rather CHRROM.
