Re: Internal NES Pics

Thanks for all that information. The pictures arent on one of my
websites so I have no control over them. It was just a link to a
page that I thought people would be interested in.

Well, a lot.

AV out. The board marking CIC next to the chip IDs the lockout
chip. The chip you have marked as the lockout is actually a 7404
(or variants) and they are basically hex inverters. You might want
to add that the 2 large chips between the cart connector and the
CPU/PPU are the SRAM chips. Both are 2K each.

next to PPU as "NES-CPU-xx" where xx is the rev number) Rev 11 has
problem with 3rd party unlicensed games and unlicensed famicom
adapter, they won't work at all. It was Nintendo's attempt to block
them. A simple fix is to snip pin 4 of the lockout chip. From the
picture, pin 4 is on the bottom of the CIC chip, 4th pin from the
left.

other large chip is the PRG ROM. CHR ROM contains the graphic and
interfaces directly with the PPU (few NES cart don't have this)
while PRG ROM contains the main program.

logic gate chips. This were common before Nintendo developed MMC
chips.
