Preview version doesn't work on my newer Altera DE1 with ZENTEL SDRAM chips.

Facts:

-Shows corrupt blue loader screen with strange characters.
-The SD card contains the menue.sys file. It's fat-16 formatted and has a
kick.rom file version 1.3. This same SD card DOES WORK on minimigtg68 v12e as
is.
-Even without the SD card inserted, the loader screen is corrupt with strange,
illegible text.
-It shows some loading progess, but the KICKSTART screen does not show up: just
a grey screen.
-minimigtg68 version 12e did work on this DE1 with ZENTEL SDRAM. V13 DID NOT
WORK.

Thanks, and ask me more information if you need it.

regards

          Manuel

Yes, no problem, but i have this in home, i can send you this night, when i arrive to home.
The SD is in Fat16 with 16Kbytes per sector and the first file in the SD must to be the menue.sys.

@Javier could you please send me the files in your SD, and what is SD's format type Fat16 or fat32

Hi,
I tested yesteray night.
I have the similar problem at begining.
I discover that Kickstart 1.2 doesn't work, try with 1.3 or 2.0, it works.
Also if the AR3.rom file is present on the SDcard, the emulator tries to load, and after that hangs.
For access to menu, you must to use now the F12 key on the keyboard, the hard keys on the DE1 pcb, are not used now.

I notice that 7 segments doesn't show the current track of the floppy begin accessed, this was a very good think in last releases and i think it should back...

I must be missing something - probably just don't know how to use it.
The new version starts on DE1 with all switches UP with a blue screen stating
the version and showing progress of uploading the kick rom.
Then it goes to a gray screen. Last serial message is "Bootloading is complete".
I have added a file r3.rom. Now it is also loaded but still no other signs of
life. Doesn't respond to the KEY3 any more.

Hi

I have read that it would be possible to add a real 16bit mode to Paula so it outputs 16bit sound instead of 14bit sound, perhaps some minimig hacker is interested in improving Paula:

Interesting idea. I think this could be achieved without any need for additional software support.

You need some simple logic to detect a condition where channels from single side have the same sampling frequency (rate) and volume set to either 64 and 1 or 1 and 64. See here for details: http://aminet.net/package/mus/misc/Pro14bitbet

When the condition is met you can then take the two different 8-bit components and produce a true 16-bit data out of it.

This way it would work with manual tricks such as descibed in the Pro14bitbet and with the 14-bit noteplayers available for various player apps (such as http://aminet.net/package/mus/play/Deli14BitGenie). As a bonus you'd get 16-bit paula AHI for free (paula.audio supports the 14-bit mode).

No.

The joystick swicthes are all floating when open, and when closed are
shorted to ground. So to read the inputs you need pull-up resistors on each
of the lines. They're not there just for fun...

I've been looking at Tobiflexx's schematics for the add-on board and it seems a
bit out of reach for my null soldering abilities. So I've been thinking if this
simple, simple connection will do:

DB9(Joy A) DE1(GPIO)
=========     =========
      1--------39
      2--------37
      3--------35
      4--------33
      5--------31
      6--------40
      7--------11
      8--------30,12
      9--------34

Notice no resistors seem to be needed. Will it work?
All I need is JOY-A for tests now, so...are the other connections really
necessary for JOY-A only?

Thanks!!

What about using Left Windows+Left Alt for left mouse button and Right
Windows (or Menu because some keyboards lack right windows key) and
Right Alt for Right mouse button?

On AmigaOS it's normal to emulate mouse buttons this way so that mouse
button emulation won't interfere with typical behaviour (so you can
have it always switched on) and will be more intuitive for Amiga
users.

I am VERY interested in josytick emulation on the PS/2 keyboard: I mean, mapping
the joystick directional buttons and the two buttons to keyboard buttons. I have
no joystick interface on the DE1 and I know a lot of games need it, not to talk
about those intros that need a joystick input to actually load the game...

Thanks!!

Anyone interested in having PS/2 keys mapped to the mouse buttons and/or
joystick inputs?

I've got a bunch of ADF images with crack screens that all want mouse button
input... I'd like to at least see them running in "attract" mode if not play
them via the PS/2 keyboard...

I did a similar mod for FPGA64 where you could select joystick 1 or 2
emulation mode on/off via the numeric keypad...

And how about using the "windows" keys for left/right mouse button?

What about a one-68k only version for the DE1 WITHOUT HARD DISK image support?
It's better than the non-working v13 version we got now.

You could use the same Z80 core you used for the V12 and 13 versions!
This way, you would get more free elements.

And basic Amiga 500 is enough for a lot of us... it's better than just dumping
the Altera DE1 for a much more expensive DE1.

Hello,
now i have finesh a new core with the latest minimig source from 270409 for the
DE2 Board. There are two 68K IPs inside. The core need 59 EABs. No Problem for
the DE2 FPGA. But the DE1 FPGA has only 52 EABs :-(
If i disasable the hires vr_filter from amber.v the core needs 54 EABs.

Perhapes I can use the SRAM for the floppy FIFO. That will free 32 EABs.
I will try it....

Wow, Tobias! I'm so happy you didn't leave the FAMPIGA project!
I have both the Minimig+ARM controller and the Alteda DE1, but I find the C-ONE a closed and expensive board. DE1 is much more general-purpose and it's a lot cheaper here in europe.

I really look forward for a Yakub core port to the DE1! It will be fantastic! :D

Hi and welcome here!
The V12e and V13 are old versions. Currently I'm working on a new Core Version for the DE1, DE2 and C-One with the latest minimig source YQ090421. I'm also change the SDRAM module to a 3-3-3 Timing. I hope this will solve the problems with different SDRAM chips.
The C-One version will have HD support with a real IDE Connector.
The DE1 and DE2 version will don't have HD Support until the ARM Code with HD image support is not available..

Hello there

I'm new to this group (and FPGA in general) but this Minimig core is the best
thing has ever happened to the Altera DE1 board!

I had to try a lot of versions before I found out that ONLY version 12e is
compatible with the newer Altera DE1 board using ZENTEL-labeled SDRAM chips.
Version 13 is incompatible with those new boards.

So I wanted to ask:

1) What are the advantages/differences between V12e and V13? Is V12e supposed to
have disk write support?

2) If SDRAM is the problem, can you please compile V13 POF files with the V12e
SDRAM controller? Or can you provide basic instructions so I can do it myself?

Thanks, Tobiflexx and the rest!

Hello,
look into the "c.bat" file. There you can see that I use the SDCC.
After installing SDCC on your system remove or rename the standard "crt0.o"
from the "SDCC\lib\Z80" Folder. Bigrom use his own crt0.asm!

I need to know the development tools used to program the TG80 so I can modify
the bigrom for minimigtg68 please ?

I am looking to load the KS into the flash to enable selecting kiskstart using
switches.

MikeJ has been busy. See here:-

http://www.fpgaarcade.com/

Fantastic!

He has indicated plans to support many other platforms.

Maybe Atari ST is not welcomed round here, but I might try and fly Star Glider I
guess.

And as this is a DE1/ DE2 board have a look at this thread too:-

http://zet.aluzina.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7&start=20

All the best to fellow retro FPGAers everywhere!
