Has anyone completed Festival of Life, one of the Armaggedon campaigns?
I can't find any strategies for it posted anywhere. On the whole, it
seems relatively easy, as I'm on the 3rd scenario now without help,
although I had a big panic in the 2nd one (Taming the something or
other) because you have only 4 months to wipe out every creature on the
map and I got to the last week and just couldn't spot any more. Tracked
them down in the end - just a couple of little Trogs that snuck in at
the beginning of the week, but quite hard to spot on a big map!

Anyhow, in the third one (already forgotten the name), you still have
your 4 heroes who are all about Level 20 and you have to beat 3 enemy
heroes. Sounds easy, till you go to the Thieves' Guild and see their
stats which are pretty damned close to your best hero's! And of course,
they start attacking you before you've been able to build up a strong
enough army.

I know speed, or at least the right speed, is the key in all HOMM
campaigns; I mean you have to knock out their castles so they can't
build up huge armies, but it's quite difficult and I'd welcome any
tips.

Had a look back so I would remember that scenario. Yes, I did have
problems, but it all came good in the end! I'm attaching a Mac Word (MS
Office 2001) file for the whole of the "Liberation" scenarios, hope you
can read it. The second set of tips on T&Trogs is the most useful (I
think I've changed the attribution - it is really Q. Dragon, not
Maneater who wrote that).

Anyway, the point is: we all learnt early on in HMM that you have to
beat the bad guys early before they get too strong. If you're like me,
you sometimes (often!) make the mistake of enjoying the game instead of
going for the win. I think that if you stick to the TIMETABLE suggested
in the attached tips, it will work for you.

It's clever the way the work these scenarios - all those tempting
targets to lure you away from the main goal, and of course, you need
some of those mines and items anyway - tricky stuff! In this one, you
must eliminate all other competition apart from the superhero so that
only you can get significantly stronger instead of him. At least, if I
remember rightly, there's no time limit on this scenario.

Thanks! I've give it a try.

I think when the map is first generated some random elements are
initialized. That's why starting from before the beginning can have
an affect on the game.

And yes, I save often :-)

So long since I did that one, I've forgotten - it was certainly a lot easier
than the scenario I'm stuck in (Armageddon: Dragon Slayer: Faerie Dragons)!
Have you checked out the tips at:

I followed his advice pretty much. Yes, it did take me several goes - what I
find with a lot of scenarios after Erathia, is that luck plays a huge role,
and that starting from the beginning again (not just restarting the
scenario, but going back to the save game at the end of the previous one -
you did save that didn't you?) is a big help, and for no apparent reason.

Hi,

I'm having trouble with the tunnels and troglodytes scenario. The
computer's best hero is way more powerful than mine, even though I
own most of the towns. I suppose I could just keep plodding through
a few more weeks until I get more armies, but he get's more too.

Any ideas on a strategy to beat this scenario?

Logistics is a bonus to your overall movement (the length of that
green bar next to your hero's portait)
Pathfinding is a reduction in the penalty you get for moving over
rough terrain (swamp, snow, etc)

Both skills will increase your hero's movement, but in different
ways. Pathfinding is useful if the map you are playing has a lot of
rough terrain. Logistics is universally useful, and unless the map I
was playing on had all rough terrain, I would usually pick logistics
over pathfinding.

Pathfinding make you able to travel over different terrains
faster....logistics allows you to travel faster over any terrain...if you
did not have pathfinding but you had logistics you would travel faster than
someone without logistics over the same terrain, but not as fast as someone
with both pathfinding and logistics.

Make sense? Or did I confuse myself?

here's what I did. I restored my game from right before I won the
Save the Queen (or whatever its called) scenario. I then won the
scenario and started the Spoils of war scenario right away. That
seemed the work. When I saved after I won the queen scenario, then
tried to start Spoils, I crashed. The trick seems to be to actually
win Queens, then start Spoils int he same session. After that I was
able to save the Spoils games and restart HOMM at will.

Hope this helps.

Camelot.ca (a computer book store in Montreal) sell Heroes

Try these:

mac-o-rama.com

Well, one thing you can do is e-mail 3DO explaining the problem and
hope they'll release a patch. Details about that are in earlier
messages on this list.

Other than that, I don't know... other people have said Spoils of War
worked if you finish one of the other campaigns first.
