I have Age of Empires...it's a really good game if you're into real time
strategies. Differentiated unit selections per Nationality (I forget what
they are really call) and special bonuses for each of them two...plus
different building images allow players to "have their own favourites", and
a very good map editor + campaign editor allow for lots of fun.
If you're into these types of games, AoE is a great one that I'd suggest
buying.
I've only played the demo of Magesty, but it seems like a really fun game
and I'd get it if I came across it in a store. Lack of command irritates me
sometimes, but notheless, an interesting game (as Rob said).
I don't really know if it's worth buying.

The possibility of a Macintosh version is pretty high. If there is a
Macintosh version, I would guess that the delay will be shorter than
the delay between the Mac and Windows versions of Heroes III. (that
delay was 9 months though...)

Agree with all the above comments - I really enjoyed Majesty, but
most
games are fairly short and we're still waiting for the Mac version of
some of the 'expansions'.

Very true. I understand now.

It doesn't exist. There's many reasons for this. First of all, it is
a pain in the ass to use. Second, less than 5% of the people who buy
the game would actually seriously use it. Third, it would take
longer to port than the game did, and then it would not have been
profitable to release the game on Macintosh at all.
I'm sure this has been brought up many times before, but *ahem* WHY
DON'T WE GET A FREAKIN' MAP EDITOR?!?!? HUH?!?! *ahem* whoo, what a
riot.

Start Heroes III Complete for Macintosh.
Choose New Game, Campaign, Restoration of Erathia, Spoils of War.
Does the game crash?
If so, you can send e-mail to: customer-support@... and explain
the problem. Maybe they'll put out a patch if enough people are
having the same problem.
Make sure you specify that it's the mac version too. Don't do this if
you've already e-mailed them about this problem before.

Well, I like Heroes III better than either of those games.
Anyway, Age of Empires is a real-time strategy game (while Heroes is
turn-based), and I only played it a little bit, but it was a lot like
WarCraft or StarCraft, and didn't stand out in my mind.
Majesty is another real-time strategy game, but it's much different in that
you don't have direct control over your people. They all do their own
thing, but you can influence your heroes by building in a certain direction
and by placing bounties on creatures you want killed. It's a fun game, and
it's much different than anything else out there, but it's not one of the
best games in the world. It's neat though.
I'd recommend getting Heroes III Complete (that comes with both expansions)
and Majesty, but if I was to get just one, it would probably have to be
Heroes III Complete.
> Anyone want to comment on HOMM2 vs. HOMM3?
If you like Heroes II, you'll love Heroes III. If you get Heroes III, get
Heroes III Complete though, because that comes with the expansions and has
many other small improvements.
In terms of actual gameplay... well, what's new: More of everything. There
is now an undergound and above-ground area to explore. Each hero has a
unique specialty, more stuff to build, better graphics, etc, etc. It plays
a lot like Heroes II though, most of the changes are subtle. Heroes IV, on
the other hand, is something totally different.

>9 year old son. We are thinking about getting HOMM3, but we

i think they differ a great deal from HOMM. Majesty and Age of Empires are
real-time strategy games, if i am not mistaken... they are more like
Starcraft or Warcraft. HOMM is not real-time, it is a pure strategy game, a
bit like Civilization or Master of Orion.
>Anyone want to comment on HOMM2 vs. HOMM3?
i found HOMM3 to simply be better than HOMM2 on every front. better
graphics, more critters, more spells, more towns... pretty sweet.

So, I guess we should do that sometime...
On a side note, I'll be running "The Rogue's Challenge II" sooner or later.
It will be a single scenario/score based competition again. I will use 6
maps this time, and they will all be ones from Heroes III Complete (so
you'll need that to play). 4 will come with the game, 1 will be downloaded
from a website, and 1 will be made by me.
If anybody has questions or suggestions for this, feel free to respond.

There are no patches for Heroes III, nor will there ever be.
There may be a patch released for Heroes III Complete someday
according to some rumors, but do not ask 3DO about this. If it comes
out, I guarantee you'll all know. If it doesn't, there's not much
that can be done.

That is an odd one. I'll try it again soon and see what happens. I might
still have it installed somewhere.

That's odd. At least you have a fix for it. I haven't heard of people having
that problem before. Is this Heroes III or Heroes III Complete that is doing
this?

What version of DrawSprocketLib are you using? I think you need at
least version 1.7.3 for Heroes 3 to run fullscreen properly. Check
your extensions folder to see if you have an older version in there,
cause some older games will install old versions of DrawSprocket even
though you have a newer one.

HOMM2 under MacOS 9.1 cannot open saved games, and the mulit-player
game (via tcpip) locks up on the guest when the game starts. Anyone
our there using HOMM2 with MacOS 9.1?

My monitor is only three years old it I can switch to just about any
resolutions you can imagine, so I don't know what resolution HOMM3
switches to, but if it's 800x600, it's odd, since 800x600 is no
problem on my monitor. It has the same problem with 9.1, so it
doesn't seem to be a OSX problem. Since I can just hit command-F,
it's not a big problem for me.

Resolution switching in Mac OS X is one I saw recently, but it's scrolled
off the bottom of the screen for me now. (fully threaded, show 600
messages.)
The board is heavily trafficked, so it might be hard to find. A better way
to search might be to use the "Find..." option in the Edit menu of Internet
Explorer 5 and search for 'mac'. That's how I found the OS X message.
As for Heroes II, what problem are you having? Is it the CD ROM lockup
problem? I have a fix for that, I just haven't put it up on my site yet.
It's very similar to the Heroes 1 fix I have posted though.
They might delete 'tech support' questions from their boards. I'm not sure.
Sounds kinda rude, but in the HOMM board they seem pretty strict about
deleting off-topic stuff. I like some of the discussions about Heroes IV and
the Hero of the Day stuff.

Well, Heroes III ran under the OS X public beta just fine. (and resolution
switching worked as well.) In the future I'll try Heroes III Complete under
OS X. (which, of course, does exist, regardless of what tech support says. I
got mine on Dec. 24). 3DO Tech support is misinformed, and they don't appear
to support the game at all. My tech support message was never responded to.
I don't know why you'd be having monitor problems though, unless you are
using an old monitor that doesn't support 800x600 very well.

I post a question about getting HOMM2 to work under OS 9.1,
and another one about the resolution switching in HOMM3
Demo, and they both seem to have disappeared. It's hard to tell
since their search engine is useless (I search for subject
contains Mac and I get no results. I search for stuff I've authored
and I get no results).
I figured out the screen resolution issue, I just have to press
command-f after HOMM3 hoses my monitor and the monitor
switches back. I haven't tried it yet under OSX, but Tech Support
said it would not work. Tech support also swore up and down
that HOMM Complete was NOT out on the mac, so I don't really
think I'll trust them.

Hey, it's me, that rogue guy.
I'm sure you all know about my site, since it looks like the whole player
list got the invitation, (and Nu mentioned my site - thanks!) but if
somebody doesn't, the URL is in my sig. (and we're always looking for input
and writing from other mac users)
Anyway, I had been thinking about starting a list like this myself, now I
don't have to. I can put some mention of this on my website if you
(moderator) would like. Just tell me what to write.
I am curious about a couple things. First, what kind of questions were you
asking that were getting removed? I've seen mac questions on there before
that haven't been removed. I even replied to one today that was posted on
June 1 about Mac OS X. I guess the "community" board is for talking about
gameplay issues, not system-specific technical issues.
Anyway, now we all have a nice mailing list to use. Anyone up for a game?
I'm free most nights around 8 or 9, Eastern Time (USA). I'm on ICQ when I
am free to play. 4008277.
Also, the Poll should have had Heroes III Complete as an option, for I
believe it is vastly superior to Heroes III in many ways.
Good Day All,
