hi,
well i am not really a new player of HoMM...
i used to play this game a lot on PC and than i switch to MA and
now i a a new player on MAc since i just got again HoMM III which
is my fav ....
anyway i hope to mwe can meet and host some nice games
with you guys.....
Prehaps elemating the other player was not the goal of the level. Try using a

see the whole map.

Hello,
I was playing the Mark of the Tiger scenario, and I killed all the trolls (the
orange
player), but the computer never said I had eliminated the orange player! In
fact, I
killed everything on the screen, captures all the towns the resources and
everything.
Any ideas? Anyone seen this happen?

hi, does anyone know where this patch is hosted? The ftp for
3DO doesn't work, and the gamespy website requires a
subscription to download it. that's BS.
Thanks.
i searched google groups for tips after sending my previous message and
found this:
"4) Changes in Version 2.1 - Map/Campaign Updates
...
Faeries!: Removed tree obstacle that blocked portion of the map."
so it seems my intuition (that the trees blocking the bottom road weren't
supposed to be there) was correct. is there an update available somewhere
to fix this?

hi all,
i've just reinstalled HoMM III Complete and started playing the map named
"Faeries!". unfortunately, i've hit a snag. after exploring 3 enclosed land
areas and 2 tunnels, it seems i don't have anywhere else to go. the enemy
can be seen moving in the center of the map but i can't see how to get
there without a boat or teleport... and i have neither (and no way to get a
boat).
at the bottom of the map, one of the roads is blocked by trees. was that a
mistake on the part of the map designer? am i screwed, never to be able to
complete this map?

Thanks for the info. I downloaded the patch yesterday and have made a start
at replaying that scenario where Solmyr gets killed every time before you

not.

3DO has put together a comparison test which was able to help us locate
a bug which did exist... and which DID used to be a PC bug. During development,
we saw several patches to the PC version, which we had to apply to our own
development tree. The patch from version 1.3 to 2.0 was quite large, and
during application of the patch, a single line in the AI code was miss-applied,
which involved the AI determining how strong and dangerous enemies were.
With the information 3DO put together to provide to us, I was able to track
the bug down.
I've made a patch and it has been sent to 3DO for testing. It is in their
hands now, for QA. Also, I've submitted the fix for the editor Display Message
crash bug.
Good news, although I heard about this (perhaps from you) at least a week
ago. Pity it won't stop crashing as well, but at least when the patch comes
out, I might be able to win that game where you have to kill Solmyr - he
always takes on a group of Black Dragons long before you can reach him.
Has that patch come out yet? I've been waiting quite a while for it now.
Rocco
To my knowledge, it has not. I imagine calls and e-mails to tech
support might help, but I don't know.

Good news on the playability front, but it seems the networkability still
doesn't work.
From a thread on Inside Mac Games:
http://www.insidemacgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7469
Well, time to eat humble pie :-)
3DO has put together a comparison test which was able to help us locate a bug
which did exist... and which DID used to be a PC bug. During development, we
saw several patches to the PC version, which we had to apply to our own
development tree. The patch from version 1.3 to 2.0 was quite large, and during

The thread on HOMM IV is good. Main points :
- the game is copy protected in that CD has to be drive to play (or once a day,
or something).
- combat is slow and that music playback causes slow downs. Overall
slowness causes games to be 1/3 to 1/2 longer than HOMM III games.
- AI is dumber than a door nail - to the point that single player games aren't
worth the time to play.
-General thought is that a patch will come to fix the slowness and crashing,
but will not fix the AI (Windoz version suffers from the same dumb AI). As a
stand alone game, probably not worth the money. As a player v player game,
worth the money now if you have to, and most probably when the bug fix
patch comes out.
IMHO, this is all too bad. Personally, I won't be getting this game until the
patch is out and speed issues are resolved. Even then, unless single player
games are worth the time, I'll wait until HOMM V. I just hope there will be a
Mac port of V since sales of IV are bound to be very low.
-Allan
Oh, some good news:
"I would like to state that your posts are not going ignored, and that we at
Contraband Entertainment are looking into the issues. I cannot say much at
this time, however some of the issues that have been discovered since
release have been resolved, and others are being investigated. We want to
make sure any patch we release resolves as much as possible rather than
inundating you with micro-patches and awkward upgrade paths.
We aren't shipping a product and dropping support for it; Contraband always
supports the products it can. However, not all issues come up during testing,
because thousands of computers can have far more quirks and bring out the
odd issues that a couple dozen testing systems can't. Please be patient, and
contact 3DO's customer service with your issues, rather than emailing us at
Contraband directly. 3DO has a large support staff able to collect and collate
all the reports for easier digesting by us. "

Turning the music all the way down turns it off.
1280x1024 has a crashing bug, or so I've heard from others.

I have G4, OS 9.2.2, 400 mz and 400 mb real RAM. I investigated turning
off the music, but I can't see an option to do this - only to turn the
sounds down. I also tried turning off animation, but at the same time I
changed the display to 1280x1024 and, as soon as I got into combat, the
game crashed - it didn't freeze the computer: it just exited the game
completely. I turned animation back on and it still crashed, so I've
gone back to 1024x768 and it works again.
Combat is v e r y slow. I lose control of the cursor for several seconds
between each move and each enemy move takes an age before it happens.
They move OK when they do move.

The game is pretty slow in 10 as well, but the pause before each creature
moves was only a few seconds, not close to a minute for me.
The AI is horrible too. They can't do anything.
I believe a patch is in the works. Please contact 3DO's customer support to
improve the chances of things being fixed by a patch.
Some tips:
Turning music off helps a lot.
Ok, that's about all the tips I have.
Good luck!
Rocco
Well, it took me a while because 3do won't ship outside N America and
their 'international page' was all phone numbers, but finally
Mac-o-rama shipped me Heroes IV, and I had my first play yesterday.
Anyone else got it? The game's fine, but for me at least it was v e r
y slow. Especially the combat screen - like it takes almost a full
minute between each creature's move.
I tried reducing the monitor resolution as suggested in the manual,
but that had no effect at all. I'm playing under OS 9.2 and I wondered
if it might be better under OS 10. Anyone tried?

Wow! Thanks for that. This is the best email I've had all year - I'm
reduced to random now I've exhausted every scenario on the disk.
Unfortunately, they are not shipping outside North America and their
international page is still 'under construction' so I've had to email
them.

(hoping)
Oh, and all Heroes games were published on the Mac by 3DO, the same
publisher who does all of the other versions. All 4 games in the series were
ported by somebody else. A guy named Gary Osbourne ported Heroes 1, I forget
who ported Heroes II, John Morris at his one-man operation, Evolution
Interactive, ( www.evolutioninteractive.com ) ported Heroes III and Heroes
III Complete and was at one time expected to port Heroes IV, but got into
some disputes with the Heroes IV head programmer and also took on a job
writing Java Cell-phone games at some company in Hawaii, so Evolution
Interactive seems to be pretty inactive right now. (you can read about all
of that on the EI site and on my site).
Heroes IV is being ported by Chris Jacobson and Bill "Burger" Heineman at
Contraband Entertainment. The game is being ported with the latest updates
that were released for the Windows version of the game, including
Multiplayer and a Map Editor. The maps and save files will be compatible
across platforms, but Mac-Windows multiplayer will not work because the
original developers chose to use DirectPlay for the networking code.
The estimated release date on 3DO's website is Late November.
I hope that answers everything.

Has this group folded? Has everyone started on Heroes IV? I still
haven't finished Heroes III, "Heroes Complete", and I'm stuck again.
Any tips on Shadow: Unholy Alliance would be very welcome.
The Astral Wizard site has closed down, although it's still accessible,
but they never completed the Shadow campaign. The next best site seems
to be Celestial Heaven, but they're totally rapt in Heroes IV.
Help someone - if you're still there.
