Well, if you start a new Restoration of Erathia Campaign game and choose
Spoils of War first (that's the fortress/stronghold campaign) the game
will just crash. There is a workaround for this bug which is to play one
of the other two campaigns (Long Live the Queen or Dungeons and Devils)
and then go on to Spoils of War (since those three can be played in any
order). So it's not totally necessary.
On the other hand, the more people that request, the more likely 3DO is to
put it on their site so the people who do want it don't have to go through
this hassle to get it. The resolution bug is really small, as anybody can
press the Enter key to make the message go away. The trade with allies
bug, however, sucks. If you're playing an allied game online and try
trading with your ally, the game may just crash out on you.
You are right though, Heroes III and Heroes III Complete were very well
behaved games. I guess that's why the patch fixes such minor issues -
because there aren't any major issues that need fixing. We can only hope
3DO will hire the same programmer to do Heroes IV. It's nice having games
that don't crash.
