Subject: JAGFEST 2003 - THRIVING IN THE JUNGLE
atarivideoclub
Online Now Online Now

For 2003 Jaguar fans have agreed to hold multiple JagFest events
nationwide
to allow other fans the opportunity to attend during this historic
tenth
anniversary of the release of the Jaguar by Atari Corporation.

JagFest 2003 "Thriving in the Jungle" will demonstrate the Jaguar is
still
alive and kicking with numerous hobby game efforts underway nearly a
decade
after the Jaguar's first release. Each event will feature demos of
lost and
upcoming games, as well as one or more tournaments with prizes for
some of
the best Jaguar games out there.

At this time, the following JagFest events have been established:

  JagFest @ MWC
  ---------------------
  When: June 7, 2003
  Where: Milwaukee, WI
  Lead Organizers: Dan Iacovelli

  JagFest @ VGS
  ---------------------
  When: July 12, 2003
  Where: Lombard, IL
  Lead Organizers: Dan Iacovelli

  JagFest @ CGE
  ---------------------
  When: August 9-10, 2003
  Where: Las Vegas, NV
Lead Organizers: Carl Forhan and Scott Walters

There's no way these few organizers can accomplish a successful
event alone.
We need fans to commit to attend to whichever shows they can. We
need equipment, unreleased games, demos of upcoming games, tournament
prizes, flyers, web pages, and more. If you're interested in
organizing a JagFest event in your region, or would like to assist
with other established events, please send a blank email to JagFest-
subscribe@yahoogroups.com .

  Long live the Jaguar!

In recent months I have noticed various E Bay 'dealers' selling rare Atari
Jag Carts that arent really that rare at all - a Prime example is Aircars -
supposedly the rarest of all Jag game carts - currently available ex stock
from a well known dealer for £59:99 it fetches on E Bay from between £80 to
£150, Others Like Towers II, and Worms only £49:99p and Iron Soldier II on
cart also only £49:99. I would like members of this group to know that E Bay
is not always the cheapest place for the supposedly rare stuff - have a
sniff around the internet first what you find may surprise you! The Jag
games field is far from dead!!!!

More examples:- Spacewar 2000 a promo of a work in progress game that was
never finished when Atari collapsed - touted as very rare - available from
the states for just $50 similarly video footage from demolition man game as
a 20 minute CD sampler of video scenes just $20

Hope this helps all would be collectors of Jag games.

The CD-ROM is a seperately add-on to the Jaguar console.
You may find someone selling the CD-ROM add-on with the Jaguar cconsole
on ebay if you luckly.
I hope I got it right the 2nd time I write this message ;)

Hi thund3r_wave

Its a 64 bit game system that works mainly on cartrige based games but there
is a CD add on available - and most new game releases seem to be moving
toward the CD format so getting one would be a good idea, it was about the
last thing Atari released in 95/96 before they went bust!

Just right now if youre based in the UK Telegames are doing a brilliant
special on the Jag CD Add on - get this!: for £119:99p you get Mint Boxed
CD unit, Vid Grid, Myst Demo, Baldies, Blue lightning, Tempest soundtrack,
Hoverstrike and Battlmorph theres basically over 70 quids worth of Games so
the CD unit brand new is costing just £49 If I had the money handy Id go for
it!
Hope that helps

Hey R0B,
Do you mind having just the carts or must they be MIB?
Reason being I have quite a few duplicate carts spare, was going to start
putting them on E Bay.

Yes, Raiden is a great game, especially when using the Rapid Fire Controller
available from Songbird Productions.
And yes, Telegames ( as well as Telegames UK) are very high priced. I have
found good prices for new games at Go Atari auctions.

Im interested in helping get new cart games off the ground, I have
contacts for plastic injection moulding, lazer etched circuit boards,
4 color artwork, box making, and printing of instruction manuals all
areas I know previous Jag game developers have had severe problems,
trouble is when it comes to programmes im a complete dunderhead, Im
not doing this for the love of money - If I were I'd be doing it for

This is a genuine offer to place my knowledge and contacts at your

Hi Guys !

I didn't know that the Jaguar Community United was still active :-)
Good to know.
Anyway, maybe some people don't know this yet, but I'm working on a new Jaguar
game.

It's called "Star Alliance - Battle for Earth" and is a 2D action shooter.

More infos can be found here: http://www.starcat-dev.de just click on the Star
Alliance link on the main page.

mess of Dreamcast games for the same price (many as low as $10 or
even lower). It's not that I'm putting those Jag games down...I'm
not. I'd really like to play those games...just not at any price.///

For me that's kind of a non-issue, as I have bought just about every
worthwhile DC game that falls into the sub-$10 category (and that's
quite a few games, but there's no way I'm buying Chef's Love Shack).
Aside from that, the value of, say, a Battle Sphere Gold will not
depreciate, and if anything will double (at least) in a year or so.
The 'Jaguar market' is an enthusiast-driven one (similar to that of
the Neo Geo - I doubt many of us would pay $175 for a Last Blade cart,
but I myself have).

There are plenty of ways to spend an extra $70 or so (just bought a
new 3DO FZ-10 with three games for less than $60). For a Jaguar
enthusiast, I suppose a new Jag game is just as good as any
(especially for the brave few who continue to work their behinds off
so that there is somethimg new to purchase).

Yes, I think FFL is worth buying. For one, after reading about it in the

It just depends. It's not the greatest 3D fighters, that's for sure,
but it's also not the worst either (Criticom on Saturn and Playstation
takes that distinction IMHO). Graphically speaking, it's a mixed bag,
but halfway impressive for the Jag, but the gameplay is quite slow,
and moves are can be difficult to pull off. For $15 or less it might
be a worthwhile purchase, but any more than that might be setting
yourself up for disappointment.

I find I've not been playing my Jag much for the last year or so. I
should hook it up soon...I miss playing Tempest 2000. I only have
about 20 games...I think I may have had close to 50 at one point.

I'll try to limit this to 10, because I have a number of favorite Jag
carts. These are in no particular order...

1. Battle Sphere (4Play) - Lucky to have this one...
2. Alien vs. Predator (Rebellion) - One I play more than any other.
3. Protector (Songbird) - Nice, old-school shooter a la Defender.
4. Tempest 2000 (Llamasoft) - Probably the Jag's most addictive title.
5. Rayman (Ubi Soft) - The Jag's best 2D platformer.
6. Iron Soldier 2 (Eclipse) - A great sequel to my favorite mech sim.
7. WORMS (Team 17/Telegames) - The best party game on the Jag.
8. Missle Command 3D (Virtuality) - Underrated update of a classic.
9. Zool 2 (Gremlin) - Underrated, Sonic-esque 2D platformer.
10. Theme Park (Ocean/Bullfrog) - Addictive sim, save bug aside...
11. Ruiner Pinball (High Voltage) - The Jag's best pinball game.
12. I-War (Imagitec) - Oddly enough, I play this one a lot...
13. DOOM (iD/Atari) - One of the better console versions.
14. Attack of the Mutant Penguins (Sunrise) - Odd, but addictive
gameplay.
15. Power Drive Rally (Rage) - Old-school, top-down racing.
16. Atari Karts (Miracle Design) - A nice kart racing game.
17. Defender 2000 (Llamasoft) - Nice game with a great easter egg ;)
18. Zero 5 (Caspian/Telegames) - The Jag's bonifide thumb-buster.
19. Towers II (JV Games/Telegames) - Another I play a lot for some
reason...
20. Cannon Fodder (Virgin/C.West) - Humorous and addictive action
game.

Oh well, so much for just 10 ;)
