Indeed, you'll need to build it. It would be nice if the various
flashrom usb programmers
could double as serial ports.
I recently built a USB<->GBA cable based on Darkfader's design. I
also built a little
program to communicate between Macromedia Director <> GBA which is
buggy but will
get you there. I'll be rewriting the communication protocol in the
next couple of months using interrupts, probably when I've finished with the
MIDI project.

and scroll down to the entry "usb+ttl+gba" where you'll find an image
of this project. Instead of going serial <> max232 <> GBA, I decided
to use the
well-known FTDI USB<>TTL chip.
There are lots of links and some code (cf. "download"). Its all in
French, but you should be
able to figure it out. Drop me a line if you're lost.
