THOOM WITH A VIEW
BY PARAMEDIC THE THOOM
Clans are beginning to submit their Clan Profiles. This issue we have
one from the Sun Dragon Clan. Other clans should look to the Sun Dragon
Clan's profile for a model.
A member from each clan can submit an article on his or her clan,
describing it in some detail. I'd like to see special focus on:
Origin/foundation story
Clan principles
Events
Members
Future plans
Location of clan scrolls (if available)
These profiles will run in Fishwrap free of charge to exiles as a
public service paid for by the ThoomCare Media Network.
In other news, Gubara seems to have lost his mind.

FEATURE INTERVIEW
FIVE QUESTIONS WITH KELAN THE SYLVAN
BY PARAMEDIC THE THOOM
Kelan is a Sylvan, is male, is a Fighter, and is not wearing the symbol
of any clan.
He is holding an axe.
Kelan has 22 good karma.
(Paramedic circles Kelan)
Kelan says, "hello"
(Paramedic circles Kelan)
(Paramedic waves a flipper in greeting.)
(Kelan feels dizzy)
(Kensington smiles.)
Paramedic asks, "How would you like to be interviewed for Fishwrap
Magazine?"
Kelan says, "I think that would be fine"
(Paramedic nods.)
(Kelan smiles)
Paramedic says, "There are 5 questions in this interview."
Kelan says, "ok"
Paramedic asks, "1) What are your favorite places to hunt?"
Kelan says, "I like to hunt in 'noids and savannah. I also like to go
on hunts to Snaggy"
(Paramedic nods)
Kelan says, "I go to Savannah solo"
Paramedic asks, "Do you usually go to snaggy with a large group?"
Kelan says, "Oh yes. Absolutely"
Kelan says, "I wouldn't go to Snaggy alone"
Kelan says, "But the others, I hunt in groups"
(Paramedic nods.)
Paramedic asks, "Do you hunt more for coins or for experience?"
Kelan says, "Besides, it's more fun in a group"
Paramedic says, "Yes, definitely"
Kelan says, "I hunt more for the experience than anything. I don't care
much about money."
(Paramedic nods)
Paramedic asks, "2) What circle of fighter are you?"
Kelan says, "I'm a 3rd circle fighter."
Paramedic says, "Ah, excellent."
Kelan says, "Thankee"
Paramedic asks, "Think you'll make 4th soon?"
Kelan says, "No, I'm not shooting for that yet."
Paramedic says, "It's not easy, I understand"
Kelan says, "I'm trying to broaden my education beyond that of the
fighter disciplines."
Paramedic asks, "What are you focusing your training on these days?"
Kelan says, "I have almost finished the training I want to do with
Loovma Geer."
Paramedic says, "Ah, excellent! I also have studied with Loovma"
(Kelan smiles)
Kelan says, "I'm ready to begin helping exiles in that fashion"
Paramedic says, "I have found he does help to keep my chains from
breaking so often"
Kelan says, "Quite true by my observation"
Paramedic says, "It's made a nice difference. And chains are
expensive....so I appreciate having fewer chain breaks"
Kelan says, "I have found that I also locate more metal because of my
training"
Paramedic asks, "You mean you find it on the ground more often?"
Kelan says, "No, I mean that more of my ore turns out to be metal"
Paramedic exclaims, "Ah!"
Paramedic says, "I find chaining to be a very worthwhile skill."
Paramedic says, "I find it helps me in rescues a lot."
Kelan says, "I think it will be rewarding."
Kelan says, "Not in the monetary sense, but in a more spritual sense, I
suppose."
Paramedic asks, "What do you mean?"
Kelan says, "I don't know if spiritual is the right word"
Kelan says, "I mean that I would feel good about myself if I can do
more than kill the monsters"
Kelan says, "I could take other exiles to safety"
Paramedic says, "Ah yes. It's nice to do more than just fend off the
beasts"
Kelan says, "Yes, exactly"
Paramedic asks, "3) Are you now or have you ever been a member of a
clan?"
Koppi yells, "Paramedic reports: Fishwrap #35 now available: Interview
with Bones the Thoom. Read here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/
fishwrapmagazine"
Kelan says, "I am not now a member of any clan, but I was once. It was
before the Ripture War."
Paramedic asks, "Is that clan still around?"
Kelan says, "No, it has long since passed."
Kelan says, "It was more of an association than a clan, I think"
Paramedic asks, "Ever consider joining a clan now?"
Kelan says, "I have considered it."
Paramedic says, "but..."
Kelan says, "But I'm not sure if I would do it yet. I don't feel
comfortable about it."
Paramedic asks, "You like being independent?"
Kelan says, "I am used to being on my own. But the friends I have made
here are changing that."
Kelan says, "I feel like I may be in a place I can call home someday."
Paramedic asks, "Who would you say are some of your friends or allies
here in Puddleby?"
Kelan says, "Magnar is my best friend."
Paramedic says, "Ah, Magnar."
(Paramedic nods.)
Kelan says, "I also run with Zorri and Bullingbrook"
Paramedic says, "Those are fine exiles."
Kelan says, "And Bulgorius is a good friend of mine"
(Paramedic smiles.)
Paramedic asks, "4) What monsters do you prefer to hunt?"
Kelan says, "I like to hunt 'noids and maha. They are both very
challenging to me."
Paramedic says, "Those are two of my favorites also."
Kelan says, "I like to get 'locks too"
Paramedic says, "Savannah is good for maha hunting."
Kelan says, "Oh yes, it certainly is"
Paramedic asks, "Do you go to Orga Camp much?"
Kelan says, "Only when there is a big hunt on."
Kelan says, "I like to assist the healer rods by clearing the orga near
them"
Paramedic asks, "Have you been on any of the Full Moon Orga Camp
raids?"
Kelan says, "I have participated in a few FMOCR"
Kelan says, "I try to do my part"
Jinx says, "mean out there today"
(Paramedic nods)
Kelan says, "I've also gone on a couple of Ethereal Plane raids."
Paramedic says, "oh"
Paramedic asks, "how did those go?"
Kelan says, "That is an interesting puzzle."
Paramedic asks, "The Ethereal plane?"
Kelan says, "I don't know how we'll solve it"
Kelan asks, "Yes, how can we get out of the circle of skulls?"
Kelan says, "Into the rest of the Ethereal Plane"
Paramedic asks, "I have not been there yet. What was it like? Many
monsters?"
Kelan says, "It was a situation where tight discipline was required"
Kelan says, "The monsters were plentiful on the path leading to the
Ethereal Plane, but not very threatening"
Paramedic asks, "Were people co-operating?"
Kelan says, "The first time I went, no. We gave up anfter an hour or
so."
Paramedic says, "Argh, that's too bad"
Paramedic asks, "were later trips more successful?"
Kelan says, "The second time, yes. We made it all the way to the
Ethereal plane quite quickly"
Paramedic asks, "but then you get stuck there?"
Kelan says, "Yes, the group is trapped in a circle of skulls, with no
idea how to get past them."
Kelan says, "The monsters on the Ethereal Plane are very nasty"
Paramedic asks, "I have heard they are very nasty. Are they new beasts,
or just stronger ones we have seen before?"
Kelan says, "There was an Astral Drake, I think."
Kelan says, "Something kept shooting lightning at us."
Paramedic says, "Ouch."
Kelan says, "There was also a Guardian in the circle of Skulls. It was
very tough, but we beat it."
Paramedic asks, "Do you think large exploration parties are necessary
to survive there?"
Kelan says, "As long as they remain disciplined, a large party wouldn't
hurt. But a powerful small party could go all the way, I think."
Paramedic says, "I wonder what else could be out there."
Kelan says, "I would like to find out."
Kelan says, "There were all sorts of interesting looking creatures
outside the Circle of Skulls"
Paramedic asks, "Interesting looking, huh?"
Kelan says, "I don't remember what they were called, but the floating
balls of energy looked like they would be challenging"
Paramedic says, "Those sound dangerous."
Kelan says, "Perhaps it was they who were hurling the lightning"
Paramedic asks, "But you can't quite reach them yet?"
Kelan says, "No, they could not be reached because they were on the
other side of the barrier."
Paramedic asks, "Do you think there's some sort of key we need to open
that barrier?"
Kelan says, "There may be. I think it has something to do with the
altar in the center of the Circle of Skulls."
Kelan says, "A small dark orb on a pedestal with lightning shooting
about it"
Paramedic says, "hmm."
Paramedic asks, "Do you think there will be a new expedition there
soon?"
Kelan says, "Yes, I think so"
Paramedic says, "Ah good"
Kelan says, "There seem to be some very dedicated exiles commited to
solving this one"
Paramedic says, "I think there might be great rewards in figuring out
what is going on there"
Kelan says, "You are probably right."
Paramedic asks, "OK last question: 5) What weapons do you use? Do you
use a shield?"
Kelan asks, "Who knows what we could learn by exploring the Ethereal
Plane?"
(Paramedic nods)
Kelan says, "Perhaps there are other entrances elsewhere that would
yield some answers"
Paramedic asks, "Do you think there is another way out or in?"
Kelan asks, "I don't know for certain, but why should the only entrance
be through Tenebrion's Keep?"
(Paramedic nods.)
Paramedic asks, "What do you think of Tenebrion, by the way?"
Kelan says, "I hear many things about him"
Kelan says, "But I don't know what to think. I've never met him
myself."
Paramedic says, "He's quite a puzzle."
Kelan says, "Yes."
Kelan says, "I think we should be wary of him."
(Paramedic nods.)
Kelan says, "I think it is likely that he has his own agenda, and he
may not have our best interests in mind."
Paramedic says, "Yes, exactly."
Paramedic asks, "How about Umbrion?"
Kelan says, "Of Umbrion I know even less."
Paramedic asks, "Have you been to his island?"
Kelan says, "I have only visited his island once."
Paramedic says, "ah"
Paramedic says, "it's quite dangerous there"
Kelan says, "It's a very dangerous place indeed."
Kelan says, "The lycanthropes are particularly dangerous."
Paramedic says, "I was with a large group and we still had many
difficulties surviving"
Kelan says, "Yes, I was with a large group as well, and I fell many
times."
Kelan says, "I still have no idea how one gets off the island."
Paramedic says, "Yes, leaving the place remains something of a puzzle."
Paramedic asks, "I wonder if that is Umbrion's castle to the south?"
Kelan says, "I suspect it is, but I am also interested in the ship
being built."
Paramedic says, "It's a large ship"
Kelan says, "Yes it is."
Paramedic says, "and there are guards around it"
Kelan says, "I'm curious to find out its purpose"
Paramedic asks, "OK last question: 5) What weapons do you use? Do you
use a shield?"
Kelan says, "I use an axe, mainly. unless I'm with a large group and
everyone needs to tag a creature."
Kelan says, "Then I use my old taintless club."
Paramedic asks, "shield?"
Kelan says, "I don't use a shield"
Kelan says, "I may pick one up, someday."
Kelan says, "I haven't felt a need to, I guess"
Paramedic asks, "why do you prefer the axe?"
Kelan says, "It's light, but powerful"
(Paramedic nods.)
Kelan says, "I also don't have the skills or money to use bigger or
better weapons"
Kelan says, "I would like to find a rapier one day"
Paramedic asks, "Ever wonder about the Bloodblade?"
Kelan says, "I have seen it in action."
Paramedic asks, "think it is worth having?"
Kelan says, "I think the cost is too much"
Kelan says, "Not in coins"
Paramedic says, "but in health? it does seem to hurt those who wield
it"
Kelan says, "Yes, being constantly wounded like that looks too
dangerous to me."
Kelan says, "I don't fight when I'm red, usually"
Paramedic says, "Good strategy"
Kelan says, "Thankee"
Kelan says, "I like to stay up and useful"
Paramedic says, "Thanks for a great interview, Kelan. Lots of good
stuff on the Ethereal plane"
You gave good karma to Kelan, thoom!
Paramedic yells, "Thoom!"
You just received good karma!
(Paramedic makes some notes)
Kelan says, "Be well. I think I'll go to savannah and hunt."
(Paramedic smiles and waves.)

CLAN PROFILE: SUN DRAGON CLAN
BY SPEEDIER
Sun Dragon Clan
Origins:
The Sun Dragon Clan was founded by Braveheart in the summer 529 YA. The
original name was "Hunter Clan" and was the first clan in existence on
Puddleby Island. Adua, Bran, Gilean, and Sten are some of the first
members of the clan.
As most of you know, clans are outlawed by Mobius. Indeed, it was quite
some time before the locals would recognize any group as a clan. But
when the townspeople finally decided to authorize clans, we were the
first to register. The clan was registered by Braveheart and Adua, with
the help of Polerand and Stormraven in the winter of 531.
Our first charter was dedicated to helping new exiles become acclimated
to their new home. Indeed that has always been an important part of
the clan as we expanded the scope of our activities
Clan principles:
These are our clan objectives:
- To be diplomats to the Lok'Groton chain and the world at large,
especially to new arrivals.
- To protect Puddleby and its inhabitants.
- To contain the Orga, Darshak, and Undine threats.
- To seek physical, spiritual, and mental knowledge of the world.
The basic principle of the Sun Dragon Clan is to defend and improve
Puddleby, the exiles and peasants living here. We do this through
active defense of perceived threats as well as cultural and social
pursuits.
The following are clan virtues that each member should embrace:
Helpfulness, Courtesy, Unselfishness, Honor, Liberality, and Bravery.
We are a democratic clan ruled by a council of five members. We hold
elections for each post on a yearly basis, and any active member can
run for any office. Each council seat has certain duties.
The High Disciple represents the voice of the clan to the council. The
High Benevolence represents the clan to other clans and the general
populace of Puddleby, The High Explorer co-ordinates the clans
information gathering efforts. The High Protector organizes the clans
defense of the lands and the clan itself. And finally the High
Councilor oversees the council and is the voice of the clan in official
decisions among the populace of Puddleby.
Events:
We hold many events in Puddleby and the surrounding areas. Every OOC
Saturday 10:00am PST we hold an open hunt. We welcome all exiles to
join us at this time.
The hunt gathers at the Sun Dragon Hut (South Puddleby next to the
Museum, the hut with the Sun banner over the door) At that time we
decide by suggestion or vote where we will explore that day.
We are members of the Dun'islar clan completions. We sponsor artistic,
cultural and athletic events open to all citizens and exiles.
Members:
Our clan roster currently has 30 active members and 15 inactive members
still wearing a SDC badge. We are proud to claim many of the most
famous and heroic exiles in the lands have at one time or another worn
a SDC badge.
Future plans:
We are always looking for new things to explore and places to discover.
Currently we are trying to regain access to the Portal Mirror in the
forests south of town.
