WANT THE EBIVISION GAMES?

Many people have been looking for them, Merlin's Walls and Pesco from
Ebivision for the Atari 2600. AtariNews has discovered that Hozer Video
Games is manufacturing and selling them for $20 each. If you are
unfamiliar with these games, Merlin's Walls is a First Person 3D game,
and Pesco is what Pac-Man should have been. Hozer Video also sells
other new 2600 games like Edtris, INV, and Oystron. You can even find
hacks of older 2600 games, giving them different graphics. This
includes Beast Invaders by the Yak himself.

NEW UPDATES TO THE PORTABLE VCS

Like the Lynx, and now, the new Game Boy Advance, the portable VCS has
gone horizontal. The 4th revision, which was the last version that was
held vertical, included a newer, higher resolution screen. It was also
the first unit to include a paddle. Now, with revision 5, the whole
look changes. It still includes the new screen and the paddle, but now
it has a second controller port for two player action.

UPDATES TO PROTECTOR: SPECIAL EDITION

Songbird Productions has been hard at work on Protector: Special
Edition. A good chunk of the new graphics and many other features have
been updated. Carl Forhan of Songbird is still looking for landscapes,
saying "I've got lots of red/rock/desert/ landscapes already, how about
something different like a mining colony, domed cities, spaceport/launch
pads, etc.?" If you're going to Jagfest 2001, Protector:SE will also be
on display, and Carl has also said "fans will be in for a real treat
when they see this game in action at JF2K1."

JAGFEST 2K1: BEYOND TEMPEST SPONSORS ANNOUNCED

The GOAT Store (http://www.goatstore.com/), an online store specializing in
the support of classic video games today announced the blockbuster line up
of sponsors for this year's Jagfest 2K1: Beyond Tempest event. The fifth
annual event is being held June 30, 2001, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

"We are extremely pleased with the organizations that have decided to
support this year's Jagfest," stated Gary Heil of the GOAT Store. "These
organizations represent a large portion of the vast support that the Jaguar
system and its fans still receive. We are proud to be able to have them
working with us."

Many of the organizations involved with the sponsorship of Jagfest 2K1:
Beyond Tempest are also going to be sponsoring the events most intense
competitions. According to the GOAT Store, tournament plans have not been
finalized at this point, but prize contributions are already totaling over
$600 dollars worth of merchandise.

The following list of organizations (listed alphabetically) will be
sponsoring this year's event:

Atari Video Club
The Atari Video Club (AVC) has been a major supporter of every Jagfest to
date. Atari Video Club writes the annual Atari Jagfest Fanzine and is
currently working on the "Beyond Tempest" edition. The organizations
founder, Dan Iacovelli, will be attending this year's event to promote the
Fanzine. The organization will also be running its own competition at the
event.

Atari Video Club's Web site may be found at http://avconline.atari.org

Good Deal Games
Good Deal Games is the host of a Web site featuring video game music,
cartoons, audio interviews, trivia, classic video game advertisements and
more. Good Deal Games has also recently released two Sega CD games: "Bug
Blasters: The Exterminators" and "Star Strike". The company is headed up by
a group of individuals so devoted to gaming that every cent of profit that
Good Deal Games has earned is used to make the company grow.

Good Deal Games Web site may be found at http://www.gooddealgames.com/

Llamasoft
Jeff Minter singlehanded masterminded the games "Tempest 2000," "Defender
2000" and the recently released "Tempest 3000." He single-handedly made the
Jaguar into a force by creating "Tempest 2000," following it up with
another game that gave a nod to the video games of old, "Defender 2000."
While "Defender 2000" wasn't as well received as "Tempest 2000," they are
both considered some of the best games for the Jaguar. "Tempest 3000" was
recently released by Llamasoft for NUON Enhanced DVD players.

The Llamasoft Web site may be found at http://www.magicnet.net/~yak/

Protom Multimedia
Protom Multimedia are the creators of new and exciting online and off-line
multimedia programs. Currently, the company is directing their focus toward
business oriented programs. The company is run by gaming enthusiasts with
an avid interest in the Atari Jaguar, and they felt it would be an honor to
help Jagfest 2K1: Beyond Tempest grow.

Protom Multimedia's Web site may be found at
http://www.protom-multimedia.com/

ScatoLOGIC
ScatoLOGIC is the company behind the release of "Battlesphere" for the
Jaguar. Since Battlesphere's release, it has become the most sought after
Jaguar game. Hidden inside Battlesphere is the key to the Jaguar Unmodified
Game Server (JUGS). The
Jaguar Unmodified Game Server is a way to play exciting new Jaguar games on
your Jaguar without having to convert your existing system.

The ScatoLOGIC Web site may be found at http://www.scatologic.com/

Songbird Productions
Songbird Productions, the most prolific Atari Jaguar developer in recent
years, will be on hand at Jagfest 2K1: Beyond Tempest. Carl Forhan
established Songbird Productions a few years ago as an outlet to publish
the Lynx games he wrote. Who could have known that soon thereafter Songbird
Productions would have published four impressive Jaguar titles as well as
countless quality Lynx games?

The Songbird Productions Web site may be found at http://songbird.atari.net/

Telegames
The first company that refused to give up on the Jaguar released six titles
for the system after Atari had pulled the plug. Those games, "Zero 5,"
"Breakout 2000," "Iron Soldier 2," "World Tour Racing," "Towers 2" and
"WORMS" are known among Jaguar fans as many of the best titles for the
system. Telegames also released "Brutal Sports Football," which has become
a cult classic on the Jaguar, and "International Sensible Soccer," as well
as countless games for other classic video game systems.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(cover and author images upon request)

NEW BOOK REVEALS INSIDERS LOOK INTO THE

 HISTORY OF VIDEO GAMES

NOVEMBER 14-MSNBC and Access Magazine video game columnist Steven L. Kent

announced today the release of "The First Quarter: A 25-year History of Video

Games", his long-awaited book featuring stories about the birth, near death,

and metamorphosis of the video game industry.

Kent, who is has written about video games for such divers publications

as American Heritage and The Japan Times, invested over seven years to

interview industry executives and game designers for this 476-page book.

"The way I have constructed this book, it is almost half quotes and half

narrative," says Kent.  "Anybody can write a history of video games, and it

may be accurate or it may be full of holes.  My goal was to let readers learn

this history through the eyes of the people who lived it."

Kent conducted over 500 interviews with such people as Steven "Slug"

Russell, designer of the first interactive computer game; Ralph Baer,

designer of the Magnavox Odyssey; Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari and Chuck

E. Cheese; Al Alcorn, Atari's first engineer and builder of Pong; Ed Logg,

creator of Asteroids, Centipede, and Gauntlet; Tom Kalinske, former chairman

of Sega of America; and Trip Hawkins, founder of Electronic Arts and 3DO.

Granted unprecedented access throughout the industry, Kent logged more

than 20 hours of interviews with Howard Lincoln and Minoru Arakawa, chairman

and president of Nintendo of America.  Ray Kassar, the chairman of Atari

during its 1982 collapse, granted Kent his first interview since leaving

Atari in 1983, and Namco chairman Masaya Nakamura met with Kent twice.

Having worked as a mediating voice with Senator Joseph Lieberman on his

annual Video Game Report Card, Kent was able to conduct candid interviews

with both Lieberman and Senator Sam Brownback about their hearings on video

game violence.

The result of all of these interviews is a high-speed, sprawling study

of how video games emerged from unimportant novelty entertainment status to

become one of the driving forces shaping the information age.  With so many

first-hand perspectives, "The First Quarter" sometimes becomes a forum for

multiple designers and executives giving conflicting memories of how events

occurred.  Nolan Bushnell, Al Alcorn, Steve Wozniac, and Masaya Nakamura, for

instance, all had different stories  about the history of Breakout, and all

four versions are included in the book.

"The First Quarter" also includes in-depth studies of the five most

influential court cases in the history of video games, complete with excerpts

from court documents and interviews with lawyers.

"Toward the end of the project, my biggest problem was trying to decide

what stories to leave out.  I had great stories about games like Aladdin,

Crash Bandicoot, and Yoshi's Island; but I needed to draw the line.  The book

was getting too big.  Two days after I handed the book in for layout,

Nintendo announced that its new console would be named Gamecube, not Dolphin,

and drawing that line became a really painful task."

Kent's book, which will be available exclusively through Amazon.com and

Select gaming outlets, retails for $21.95.

For more information, contact Steven Kent at stevenkent@... .

eGames CEO challenges Customer Complaint with Suit

Manteca, CA - (August 23, 2000) -- In a recent exchange of email
communications with a customer, eGames, Inc. (www.egames.com) reveals plans
to continue selling abridged software without telling customers that the
software they're purchasing are not the original full versions. The
revelation is made while Mr. Donald A. Thomas, Jr., Webmaster of ICWhen.com
(www.icwhen.com), submits a complaint to the firm concerning their
marketing policy.

"Mr. Thomas obviously has a mission here and short of revamping our
marketing and product development strategies, he's not about to (be)
appeased, " states Mr. Gerald W. Klein, CEO of eGames, Inc. in an email
addressed to his staff in which Mr. Thomas was copied. "Ellen, are you sure
we can't sue him?" he concludes.

On Saturday, August 19, Mr. Donald A. Thomas, Jr. purchased two video game
compilations published by eGames, Inc., a Langhorne, Pennsylvania-based
software publisher. "Galaxy of Arcade Classics" includes "7 exciting games
featuring 3D graphics and sound." "Galaxy of Games Red Edition" is a
"best-ever collection of 50 full feature games". Both are CD-ROMs intended
for computers equipped with the Windows '95 or Windows '98 operating
systems. Don installed "Galaxy of Arcade Classics" on his home computer and
found that the software titles advertised on the packaging were quite
different from their originally released forms.

"I played 'Tunnel Runner' for fifteen minutes, then the game stopped and
told me that I had completed all the levels," revealed a disenchanted
Thomas. "As you exit the main menu, they then offer to sell you the
complete versions. I then realized I had actually purchased an elaborate
eGames product catalog with nothing more than game samples represented as
complete games."

Indicating that their target market are casual gamers that do not realize
that they're purchasing only small portions of the complete game originals,
Klein points out, "We realize that we cannot hope to satisfy both core and
casual game players with the products that we intend to market and sell."

"Interestingly," challenges Thomas, "many of eGames titles are
look-and-feel copies of classic video game titles such as 'Dig Dug',
'Pac-Man', 'Missile Command', 'Frogger', 'Breakout' and others. As a
Webmaster of a game history Web site, I know that all these games became
popular, in part, to their never-ending nature. If the player ever did
reach a 'final' level, the entire game begins again adding to the existing
score at a faster and more challenging pace. I purchased EGames' 'Galactic
Patrol' a while back and it plays just like the original 'Galaga'. It's
clear that they know what their target market is and it's not people
interested in games that end in less than fifteen minutes."

Klein considered an invitation to have the matter reviewed by one or more
Attorneys' General offices. The CEO responded that eGames' money-back
guarantee protects them from any such inquiries inferring that those
consumers who felt that they had been misled will be entitled to a refund.

"Our money-back guarantee protects our customers and our interests too,"
boasts Klein. "Experience has shown such a guarantee to be the best
insurance money can buy and the best customer service policy."

Assuming that a money-back guarantee would protect eGames marketing
strategy, Thomas points out that the products he purchased make no
references whatsoever to any such guarantees.

The complete email exchange between Donald A. Thomas, Jr. of www.ICWhen.com
and Mr. Gerald Klein of eGames, Inc. (www.egames.com) can be found at

Hello everyone,

The Jaguar, in another grand refusal to be forgotten is the featured

The magazine covers Songbird's Hyper Force, 4Play/Scatologic's Battlesphere

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Underground Software Loader comes to Jaguar Platform

The fabled JUGS (Jaguar Unmodified Game Server) proves to be more
than just a rumor

August 14 , 2000 -- In a moved that shocked the Underground Jaguar
Development Community to it's very core, the JUGS Team officially
announced the availability of it's JUGS system today. The JUGS System
has been rumored to exist for many months, but until now it was
largely dismissed as an elaborate hoax. With the addition of this
system to the available Underground Jaguar Development Tools, the
ability to load and run Underground Jaguar Software is now within
reach of the masses.

The loss of the key to the Jaguar internal encryption routines has
prohibited many people from being able to load and run software
created since the Jaguar console was declared an open system. Until
recently the only way to use this new software was to own an Official
Jaguar Development System / FLASH Cartridge, or to modify a Jaguar
console to circumvent the operating system encryption routines.

[Ed. note - Songbird Productions has also published new software
available in cartridge format since the Jaguar was declared an open
system.]

The JUGS System was revealed via the Official JUGS Website at
www.buyjugs.com to consist of a special cable to connect to your PC
Compatible, a proprietary PC based loading utility program, and
sophisticated server firmware piggybacked within the BattleSphere(tm)
Jaguar Game Cartridge. Using a special code embedded within
BattleSphere(tm), software can be loaded into the RAM memory in any
Jaguar console and then executed. JUGS bypasses the Jaguar's internal
encryption routines by running software after the BattleSphere(tm)
game has passed encryption tests on power-up. The fact that the
server code is executed from an existing cartridge enables the
product to be the only one of it's kind which does not require any
soldering or cutting of the Jaguar circuitry.

Due to the recent move, the Songbird Productions mail order buiness will be
closed for most of August while we relocate our merchandise. Any orders
received will be temporarily held until then.

Also, Songbird has almost exhausted its supply of new Jaguar products. Soccer
Kid is out of stock, Hyper Force has only one copy left, and Protector and
Skyhammer have a few copies each. When Skyhammer is gone, it is gone and will
likely never be reproduced again. The other games will have a second run made
in the next 2-3 months.

Likewise, supplies of Ponx, SFX, and Lexis are running low, and there are no
plans to reproduce these games once they have sold out.

Once Songbird re-opens, we will offer a bunch of new products for sale,
including Jaguar Rapid Fire Controllers, Lynx Remnant, and Lynx Crystal Mines

Wow, just got back to MN early this morning after a fun but exhausting expo.
Not sure what attendance was like this year vs. last year, but I do know that
Sunday attendance was a big improvement over last year. And I stayed VERY busy
at the Songbird booth the entire time! It was rare that I had more than 5
minutes go by without someone wanting to try a Jag or Lynx game, see some
unreleased stuff, etc. People got to play Lynx Cybervirus, Eye of the Beholder,
and Relief Pitcher, while on the Jag side we did have Phaze Zero and a
prototype 'shareware' cart for demo.

Songbird customers got to pick up the new Songbird Jaguar games at great
prices, and I went through almost all the assorted Jaguar stock I brought with
me. Lynx sales were a little slower than I hoped, but the new games were still
well received and I even found some new customers for Ponx and Lexis! Not to
mention equipping a few former INTV and 5200 developers with low-cost Lynx
developer kits which was great fun... =^)

I didn't get much time to stop by other booths, but it is always great to chat
with Hasbro, Telegames, B&C, CGE staff, and the rest.

Thanks to everyone who made this another incredible event! I hope to see even
more people attend next year. Considering the exclusive game releases, great
deals on new and old merchandise, the chance to meet former and current game
developers, the swap meet, and the one-of-a-kind museum, I think there are
plenty of reasons to make CGE a 'must-go' event for classic/Atari gamers.
