people have tried, and some have succeeded.

I would like to officially announce the formation of The 1st Annual 1
to 2K Classic Text Adventure Competition. I will be accepting BASIC,
C/C++, Fortran and Assembly language submissions for 1 to 2K text
adventures written for the following computing platforms: Commodore
64/128/+4/Vic-20/PET, TI 99/4A, IBM PC/PCJr, Atari 400/800, Apple
II/IIe, Sinclair, TRS-80, Color Computer, Acorn, Tomy Tutor, Bally
Astrocade, Linux, Mac and Windows/DOS.

Please submit your 1 to 2K adventure games to me. The 2K size can be
either the source coce, or the EXE, BIN, OBJ, PRG, ELF or other
self-contained, self-running binary. So you can thus have, say, a 8K
source code listing, so long as the binary format doesn't exceed 2.9KB
of size. You may also crunch the binary down with a compressing
program such as UPX or Winzip. The competition officially begins on
June 28, 2004, and runs through September 29, 2004. I will post all
submissions, regardless of when they were submitted, and then review
them and post grades on this page on October 7th. Good luck! =)

Songbird Lassos Loopz for Lynx

ROCHESTER, MN -- After years of being in a holding pattern, Loopz is finally
making a landing on the Atari Lynx. Songbird Productions recently scooped up
the rights to this game after several years of negotiations with Audiogenic
Software Ltd. and Hand Made Software.

Loopz is the captivating puzzle game which has been published in at least a
dozen different formats. The premise is simple: get pieces, drop them on the
screen, and form closed "loopz" to clear the screen. The bigger the loopz, the
bigger the points. The three game variations included are Chain Loopz, Target
Loopz, and Match Loopz, each with their own twist on the basic game. Players
can also watch for "gophers" which appear occasionally to help clear incomplete
loopz from the screen.

CLASSIC GAMING EXPO BRINGS RARE PIECES OF VIDEO GAMING HISTORY TO
ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT EXPO 2004

VALLEY STREAM, NEW YORK – May 6, 2004 –  CGE Services Corporation,
organizers of Classic Gaming Expo, today announced some of the rare
items that will appear in their "History of Videogames" exhibit at
Electronic Entertainment Expo 2004 in Los Angeles (May 12 -14, 2004).
  Among the fascinating artifacts of videogame history on display will
be an original Computer Space machine, the first video arcade game
designed by Nolan Bushnell, as well as an Atari Pong machine.
Attendees will have the opportunity to see and play a replica of the
original "Brown Box" prototype that eventually became the Magnavox
Odyssey, the first home videogame console.  The replica was hand-built
by Ralph Baer, the system's inventor, as the original unit currently
resides in the Smithsonian Institute.  Other items rarely seen or
played by video gamers will include an elusive and extremely scarce
Puppy Pong machine as well as various home console prototypes.

"We're pleased to be bringing such rare exhibits to E3's tenth show so
attendees can see and play for themselves the games that are the basis
for the multi-billion dollar industry that we all enjoy today," said
Sean Kelly, co-organizer of Classic Gaming Expo.  "E3 is the video
game industry's biggest show and we're proud of the fact that Classic
Gaming Expo has been recognized as the premier show dedicated to the

Atari Video Club announces Spy Games tournament for VGS'04

Atari Video Club/Jaguar Comunnity United is pleased to announce the following
details for Spy Games tourney.  For those who don't know what Spy Games is
here's the basics:
The tourney style will be known as Spy Games in which eight players will be
chosen to compete in games in order to add prizes to final prize package and
one of the eight players will be known as the Spy, a player who was chosen to
make sure the prizes don’t get added. (If this sounds familiar to you it should
because I got the idea after watching “Celebrity Mole” on ABC-TV (I also
thought about doing something like this last year,but never went through with
it)) Also like the TV show, after each game a quiz will be taken about each
player to figure out who is the Spy, the player who scored low on the
quiz will be eliminated. Now here’s the twist, there will be no exemptions, so
everybody is a risk, plus at the end of tourney The Spy will get a chance to
win the prize package when the Spy will play against the player who figured out
who is the Spy. Also visitors to the show will be able to guess who is the Spy
(hint’s will be hidden the program, plus  they will be able to watch the
players as well).
Now For the details on how to enter a chance to take part in Spy Games:
You entry is based on your high score of one of the games listed below.
2600: Star Wars: Death Star Battle
5200: Defender
7800:Xevious
Lynx:Remmant
Jaguar: Protector(it can be Regular or Special Edition version)

Midwest Gaming Classic, coming to Milwaukee this May

Midwest Gaming Classic, the biggest electronic gaming convention in
the midwest, is coming to the Brookfield Sheraton in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, on May 22nd and 23rd.  Some of the highlings of the show
include tons of arcade classics, a classic gaming and computer museum,
Multiplayer Lynx gaming, and of course, Tournaments!  Tickets can be

NorthWest Classic Games Enthusiasts Expo 2004 next weekend

The Northwest Classic Gaming Enthusiasts will be having their annual
event, NWCGE 2K4, on May 8th and 9th in Seattle, Washington, at the

Handy, the Atari Lynx emulator, is now open source. The program
hasn't been updated since 2002, but has now moved to sourceforge.
With it being open source, other people can customize, improve or
port to other platforms.

VideoGame Wiz releases Atari 5200 MaxiCart

The A52 USB MaxiCard is a special cartridge that allows loading games
into it using a PC.  This is a great tool for developing and testing,
or even playing, games on the Atari 5200.  You can download the game

Seattle-Based Classic Video Gaming Show Announces Event Dates and
Location

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON - February 16, 2004 - Northwest Classic Gaming
Enthusiasts (NWCGE) is pleased to announce their annual show, NWCGE 2K4,
will be held Saturday, May 8, 2004 in Seattle, Washington.  Come see the
beginnings of the video game industry and how it has evolved from the
early days of Pong and Atari to today's offerings from Nintendo, Sony,
and Microsoft.  In its seventh year, the Northwest Classic Gaming
Enthusiasts Expo is a show dedicated to bringing together video game
fans of all ages to play classic and modern games, meet historical
leaders of the video game industry, and see the latest offerings from
various exhibitors and vendors.  Organized by gamers for gamers, NWCGE
2K4 should be on every video game fan's calendar.

The highlight of past NWCGE expos has been the Annual Northwest Atari

high-score contest, the Northwest Atari 2600 Championship has become an
annual tradition among local gaming enthusiasts, covering varied skills
from joysticks to paddles, high-score contests to direct head-to-head

change, George said, "I decided to change the title to more accurately
describe the book and the time when it was released. It seemed funny

reduces the workload of postal workers who are already burdened by the
extra load of Christmas deliveries."
