JagFest @ CGE Press Release

Get $5 off Songbird table plus a chance to win door prizes!
(Details below)

July 11, 2003

For immediate release:

ROCHESTER, MN -- The latest JagFest On Tour stop, dubbed JagFest @ CGE, will be
held during the Classic Gaming Expo on August 9-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
JagFest organizer Carl Forhan had this to say about the event: "We're pulling
out all the stops this year in an effort to create an exciting, memorable
event. Jaguar and Lynx fans will absolutely have a blast at JagFest @ CGE."

Highlighting the event will be several brand new releases for the Jaguar and
Lynx systems. Glenn Bruner, founder of Minuteman Productions, plans to release
his "JAG-ADS" CD for the Jaguar CD at the show. This incredible,
professionally-produced CD showcases nearly 60 minutes of Jaguar-related
footage and commercials, all preserved in the best quality possible.

Songbird Productions announced plans to publish for the first time Crystal
Mines II: Buried Treasure in a cartridge format for the Lynx. This cartridge
contains over 100 new levels for Crystal Mines II as well as all 181 of the
original "classic" levels, and also includes enhanced support for downloading
custom levels into Lynx RAM. "We've taken the work from the CM2:BT CD that was
created a few years ago, and integrated these levels plus dozens more into a
single Lynx cartridge, which makes the game more accessible for the average fan
than having to download levels one at a time to the Lynx," said Songbird owner
Carl Forhan. "Having original CM2 level designer/tester C. Scott Davis on board
really helped this project reach the highest quality standards. The CM2 engine
is so great because you can do so many new things with it that were never
attempted in the original level set."

Other Jaguar developers such as Sinister Developments and Force Design also
revealed plans to either demo or publish several upcoming games at JagFest @
CGE, including an all-new version of Painter, the surprise release Mad Bodies,
and the highly-anticipated Gorf Pluz. Gordon Gibson and Scott Walters will be
on hand to demo and discuss their latest developments. Familiar to Jaguar fans,
but newcomer to the Lynx scene, is German developer Duranik, who plans to have
their Fall 2003 release Alpine Games available for demo on the Lynx. A slew of
other unreleased Jaguar and Lynx games such as Soul Star, Total Carnage, Eye of
the Beholder, and more are planned to be demoed as well.

Not content to let the new releases dominate the show, Carl Forhan has arranged
for some former Jaguar developers to be present for JagFest @ CGE, including
Eric Nofsinger of High Voltage Software, who has worked on every Jaguar project
at HVS including high profile games such as NBA Jam and unreleased games like
Thea Realm Fighters and Dactyl Joust. Eric fondly described HVS as being
"raised by Jaguars" back in those days, and will be presenting a keynote speech
on the Jaguar era of HVS. Vince Valenti of JV Games, who developed Towers II
for the Jaguar, will be in attendance as well.

JagFest @ CGE will mark the release of the first installment of the "Jungle
Guide". The Jungle Guide is a series of articles featuring interviews, cheats,
screens, and strategy guides, with a special emphasis on post-Atari games for
the Lynx and Jaguar, all printed professionally on high quality glossy paper.
Each installment will showcase multiple games for both systems; the first
installment will include games such as Breakout 2000 and Championship Rally.
Long-time Atari fan Kevin Manne has been intensely involved with this project
and brought his trademark professional style to making the Jungle Guide a
success. Carl Forhan, who has seen the articles and helped provide some
content, commented "What's neat about these articles is they're not a simple
rehash of existing material. The vast majority of content is brand new,
including screens of hard-to-reach areas, strategy guides which have been
almost nonexistant for these games, interviews with the developers, and so on.
The Jungle Guide will be a must-read for diehard Jaguar and Lynx fans."

In addition, JagFest @ CGE will feature multiple Jaguar and Lynx tournaments. A
Protector SE high score tournament will be validated and recorded by Twin
Galaxies, the official electronic games scoreboard. A two-on-two NBA Jam
tournament is also scheduled, and so is a free-for-all Championship Rally
competition [note to fans: please bring your Lynx and games!]. Tournaments and
prizes may vary based on personnel, equipment, and schedule.

Prizes will be awarded to tournament winners, and door prizes will be awarded
to participating fans throughout the show. To participate in the door prize
drawing and tournaments, and to receive a $5 coupon valid for merchandise at
the Songbird Productions booth, simply mention "JagFest @ CGE" with your online
advance ticket purchase, or at the door when you register for CGE. For more
information on CGE, please visit http://www.cgexpo.com .

Help make the jungle cats ROAR by participating in JagFest @ CGE this year!

and Jaguar. To keep up to date with the latest news at Songbird Productions, be

I want to welcome all the new Atari fans who have signed up to this list in the
past few days, and take this opportunity to explain the function of this list.

This is a moderated mailing list for Atari fans. Only Atari-related news items
are allowed to be posted to the list, such as announcements on game
conventions, newsletters, new games for old systems (often called "homebrews"),
what former Atari celebrities are doing now, where you can find the
Atari/Infogrames brand nowadays, and so on.

Posts asking where to find/trade/sell games, general chatter, or unrelated
posts will be denied. This helps keep the traffic on the list very low, usually
no more than 3-5 posts per month. All list members are encouraged to submit
Atari news items to the list, however.

In addition, Songbird Productions (producer of games for the classic Atari Lynx
and Jaguar) will occasionally post news and catalog updates to this list. My
web site has been down for almost two weeks, but should be up again in a few
days.

Welcome aboard!

Nolan Bushnell, founder of Atari and father of arcade games (and, in a way,
video and computer games as we know them) will be turning 60 next month:
February 5th.

Along with Atari, which Bushnell began in 1972 (and left in 1977), he
also founded over 20 other companies, including Chuck E. Cheese
Pizza Time Theater restaurants. He holds many patents relating to both
video games, and other industries.

We also have Bushnell to thank, indirectly, for Apple Computer.
(Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were both employees there when they began
designing their first computer.)

The distinctions Bushnell has been awarded include an induction into the
'Video Game Hall' of Fame and the Consumer Electronics Association's
'Hall of Fame.' Bushnell is a 'Distinguished Fellow' at his alma mater,
the University of Utah, where he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering.

JagFest 2003 "Thriving in the Jungle" will demonstrate the Jaguar is still
alive and kicking with numerous hobby game efforts underway nearly a decade
after the Jaguar's first release. Each event will feature demos of lost and
upcoming games, as well as one or more tournaments with prizes for some of the
best Jaguar games out there.

At this time, the following JagFest events have been established:

JagFest @ MWC
---------------------
When: June 7, 2003
Where: Milwaukee, WI
Lead Organizers: Dan Iacovelli

JagFest @ VGS
---------------------
When: July 12, 2003
Where: Lombard, IL
Lead Organizers: Dan Iacovelli

JagFest @ CGE
---------------------
When: August 9-10, 2003
Where: Las Vegas, NV
Lead Organizers: Carl Forhan and Scott Walters

There's no way these few organizers can accomplish a successful event alone. We
need fans to commit to attend to whichever shows they can. We need equipment,
unreleased games, demos of upcoming games, tournament prizes, flyers, web
pages, and more. If you're interested in organizing a JagFest event in your
region, or would like to assist with other established events, please send a
blank email to JagFest-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .

Long live the Jaguar!

Official Songbird Report for CGE2K2

----------

NOTE: Some commemorative "CGE 5th" Lynx carts and Jaguar CDs are now available
for purchase while supplies last. Both are photo slideshows from the past four
years of CGE, and each is hand-numbered. Price is $39.95 for the Lynx cart, and
$29.95 for the Jaguar CD. Shipping is free worldwide for one or both items.
Only 60 of each will ever be produced, and fewer than half are available as of
this writing. Please contact me via email at songbird (at) atari (dot) net to
reserve your copy prior to sending payment.

----------

I was happy to be a part of another successful CGE in Vegas. It was good to see
such a strong turnout for the show, especially in light of our current economy
and post 9-11 travel concerns. My hat's off to everyone who made the
considerable effort to attend. Great to see quite a few familiar faces as well
make some new friends this year.

I finally sacrificed some suitcase space and brought a few of my favorite 2600
carts along in hopes of getting them autographed. Most of the ones I brought
are the actual carts we played as kids some 20 years ago, so it was fun to
finally be able to thank the Activision and Atari guys who made such wonderful
games. Hopefully I can get the rest of my favorite games signed next year, as I
missed a few opportunities this time around...

The Songbird booth stayed fairly busy throughout the show, with only a few
lulls in the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday. It's both exciting and
tiring to show off all the cool new (and old) Jaguar and Lynx releases to Atari
fans; fortunately Scott Walters once again volunteered to help man the booth,
so I got the occasional chance to gulp down some food and even walk around the
show for at least 30 minutes. Also want to thank Glenn Bruner, who I finally
got to meet in person, as he and Scott both brought a lot of equipment for me
to display at the booth.

Vendor Night was fun but really difficult to pull off -- mostly our fault, as a
group of us waited an hour (!) in line just to eat at the nearby and excellent
Main Street Station buffet. By the time we got back for Vendor Night, the band
was blaring and a number of arcade games had already been shut down. Still
managed to play a few games, which is more than I've done in past years. And
it's always nice to sit and chat, so I didn't mind the quiet end to the
evening, and I look forward to a similar event in next year's show.

On the Lynx front, people were suitably impressed by CyberVirus. I think I sold
all but one of the copies I brought, which was in the 10-12 range. I also got
several nice comments from people who had bought Ponx and Lexis in previous
years, talking about how much they enjoyed those games. Bjoern Spruck really
did a fantastic job with the high-color engine for the Lynx CGE 5th slideshow,
as fan after fan was stunned by the photo quality appearing on the Lynx screen.
Having the pics fade in and out and the MOD playing in the background rounded
this cart out as a professional production.

On the Jaguar front, Protector SE got a lot of play time as a new release, as
did Skyhammer, and naturally I had the CGE 5th slideshow running early in the
show, too. On Sunday one soon-to-be Jag fan got hooked on Zero 5, and I watched
him beat the first three missions on his first try! He couldn't say enough good
things about the Jag after that. That's why it's fun to go to these shows, and
demo games -- even non-Songbird games -- because there are so many gems for the
Lynx and Jaguar, and most people don't realize how unique some of these games
are compared to other systems.

I managed to sell three Jags and four Lynxes while at the show. I then
proceeded to leave a small box of Jaguar carts behind in my booth after the
show ended -- thanks, Larry, for not putting all those on eBay! ;-) And I
picked up a few shrinkwrapped 2600 titles like RealSports Boxing for $5 each at
the B&C booth for my personal collection. Also snagged a few of the new
releases for the 2600 and 7800, too.

The Dig Dug Drop was quite a sight to behold. Contrary to some posts I've read
so far, it seemed like everyone was generally excited and having fun with it.
Definitely a feeding frenzy, though, but what did you expect? I stayed out
beyond the fringe until it was too late to grab an unopened box, but no big
deal.

To John, Sean, and Joe: you guys have done it again with CGE2K2. Tons of arcade
games, amazing special guests, new game releases, and so much more. There's a
genuine sense of camaraderie and excitement exhibited by nearly everyone at the
show. It's no wonder that CGE is in my opinion the best gaming show anyone
could attend. And special thanks as well to Don, Scott, and the rest of your
volunteer staff who are always willing to help and stop by occasionally to ask
if I need anything. That's really cool.

To everyone who didn't make it out this year: start saving your pennies now,
and join us next year for CGE2K3! :-)

SONGBIRD CELEBRATES CGE FIFTH ANNIVERSARY

July 24, 2002

For immediate release:

ROCHESTER, MN -- Songbird Productions is once again proud to be a part of this
year's Classic Gaming Expo (CGE), which takes place in Las Vegas, NV, on August
10-11. To honor the show's fifth anniversary this year, Songbird has produced a
limited number of Jaguar and Lynx collectables which provide a retrospective on
the shows from the last four years.

The Jaguar CGE 5th CD features a slide show of digitized pictures from World of
Atari 98 all the way to CGE2K1; nearly 50 full-screen, high-color photos are
included in this collection. This CD will play on any consumer Jaguar CD unit
which utilizes a JagFree CD compatible cartridge, such as Protector SE.

The Lynx CGE 5th cartridge also features a slide show of over a dozen digitized
pictures from CGE's past. This is made possible by use of a brand new
high-color display engine which allows pictures with dozens or even hundreds of
colors to be displayed with amazingly vibrant color and clarity on the Lynx
screen.

Only 60 of each commemorative item will be produced, so be sure to get to the
Songbird booth at CGE right away to secure your copy. Also check out other
recent Songbird releases, including Protector SE, CyberVirus, and the brand new
Phase Zero Demo cartridge. The latter is an impressive, playable demo which
includes at least five missions for you to explore and conquer, and is a great
addition to any Jaguar fan's collection. Skyhammer and the Rapid Fire
Controller should also be back in stock just in time for the show.

For the latest details on ticket pricing, directions, and special guests and
events at CGE, please visit the CGE website at http://www.cgexpo.com .

Jagfest 2002 Goes to New Dimensions
For Immediate Release:

June 1st, 2002

(St. Louis, MO.)-- In what could be considered an unprecedented move, the
organizers of The Sixth Annual Atari Jaguar Festival have decided to broaden
the scope of the event by showcasing not only the Atari Jaguar, but classic and
next generation systems. Adding to this, Jagfest 2k2 will also provide an
avenue for creators of "homebrew" software to show their creations to the
world.
Last years Jagfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin set the stage by allowing non Atari
systems to have a limited presence. This year that idea will be taken further
by making their inclusion official.

James Garvin, owner of OMC Games and a principal organizer of this year's
Jagfest, states: "Jagfest symbolizes what can happen when a group of gamers
actually care about their games, and it has survived this long because of
dedication from its community. Our goal is to insure that Jagfest will survive
for years to come, and to do this the concept of what Jagfest stands for can be
expanded to include gaming in general. The "Jag" in Jagfest won't be lost,
though. It will still retain a major presence in the show, but gamers of all
types should be able to share some of the same heritage that has kept the
Jaguar alive after all of these years. This change is just a natural
progression of the show."

Daniel Iacovelli, Founder and President of The Atari Video Club and
co-organizer of this year’s Jagfest also states:” The addition of old school
and next generation will add a new dimension to the event. My club has seen the
progression of this event since its start in 1997, from just Atari
Jaguar and Lynx being shown at the first event to the addition of classic
systems shown at the last year’s event, it just seemed natural to continue from
that plus extending it to new dimensions”.

The Sixth Annual Atari Jaguar Festival (dubbed Jagfest 2k2) is being held in
downtown St. Louis, Missouri at The Mayfair Wyndham Historic Hotel. (806 St.
Charles Street St.Louis, Missouri 63101. Phone: 314-421-2500) on Friday, July
12th and Saturday, July 13th 2002.

The Midwest Classic is shaping up to be one of the can't-miss gaming events
of 2002, and it is just one week away! If you have not made plans to
attend, it is time to do so! Here are just a few short things that you
will see at the event.

Computers

Classic computers will be huge at this year's event! Attendees will be
able to view tons of classic computers from manufacturers like Apple,
Atari, Commodore and more in the Classic Computing Museum section of the
Computing and Gaming Museum. Along with these computes, attendees will be
able to see a lot of rare and strange computer peripherals. If you
remember the old computers with more than nostalgia, or just want to learn
the evolution of computers you will be able to do it at the Classic
Computing Museum!

Video Games

When the organizers of this year's event sat down to decide exactly what
could be considered a classic, we realized that anything could be so this
year's Classic Gaming Museum section of the Computing and Gaming Museum
will feature everything from PONG to the XBox, GameCube and PS2! Attendees
are in for a huge treat, as there will be many new developments shown for
the TurboDuo and the Dreamcast -- some of which have never been seen
before! If you have ever enjoyed playing a video game, there will be
something for you at the Midwest Classic!

Pinball

The flipper was invented in Chicago in 1947, and the game of pinball
evolved into what we know it as today. The classic silver-ball game will
have a grand showing at the Midwest Classic as Stern Pinball, the last
pinball manufacturer today, will be sending materials to Milwaukee for
attendees to view. The GOAT Store, LLC will also bring along a Williams
classic -- Space Shuttle pinball -- so that attendees may compete against
each other for great prizes. There will also be a special demonstration on
how pinball works during the event. If you have ever been curious about
how these complicated machines work or if you just want to test your skills
against friends, you will want to be at the Midwest Classic!

And much, much more!

On top of this, the Midwest Classic will feature tons of other memorable
events! Throughout the day, attendees will be able to compete against new
friends in tons of games for great prizes from show sponsors The GOAT
Store, LLC, Good Deal Games and Songbird Productions. Attendees may also
visit the Warring Worms Warzone to get themselves exclusive Midwest Classic
Atari 2600 games, meet with Carl Forhan -- creator of countless new Atari
Lynx and Jaguar games -- to get their game boxes signed, proudly sport an
event T-shirt, eat food provided by Chuck E. Cheese pizza and meet
countless new and old friends!

The Midwest Classic will truly be a classic that is not to be missed!

Pre-ordered tickets for the event are on sale until Saturday night at
midnight. For more information about the event, please visit the official
Midwest Classic Homepage at
