My kids got DS's and 4 styluses (styli?) each with them for xmas. All of them have either had the tips come off or smushed so bad they're useless.

I can get them ones that go to PDA's with harder tips, but they don't fit in the holding slot and I worry they will be harder on the screen.

Anyone have an alternative to Nintendo brand they can recommend?

I've had a DS since it came out and I also have a Lite. I've never had an issue
with the styluses. I would say that your kids may already be doing damage to the
screen if they're pushing that hard.

Very true.  The best option would probably be to show your kids how to use the styluses properly.  How old are they, by the way?

Ages 10 & 9.

The tip seems very soft, pliable. You can wiggle it w/ your thumb.

I found Ninetendo-manufactured pen-like styluses at Wally-mart. The price for 2 was less than 2 styluses and included 2 screen protectors to boot. Kids love them, tho they don't fit into the stylus slot on the game.

I've had a DS for almost a year and have not broke a stylus either. My sister worked at Wal-Mart and had never heard of a stylus breaking. GameStop or EB games carries replacement pieces or accesories for DS.
