I don't know if this has been previously posted, I wanted to mention
my favorite site for gaming info and news. The ssf tribute site is
one I have frequently visited for news and advice on this system. I
personally consider this the best site for beginners and for any one
else also looking for information about the gaming discussed in this
group. www.ssftribute.emuunlim.com/main. I also want to thank the site
authors for keeping up this site.

Hi everybody, I downloaded and played the newest ssf release ssf 009
prototype posted today 9-16-07 on their homepage. The game I played
was one of my favs Shining The Holy Ark. Speed and sound on this
version is perfect, seems to me to be the fastest one yet. I also set
the bios with current date and time and had no problems. I set ez
setting to max compatibility with no speed issues and enabled vsync in
fullscreen. Any questions about this program contact me I can
probably assist. I highly would recommend if you have a fast enough
pc to download and play this emu.

I have a few games for the saturn I played that are my favs that I
   want
   to list.
   Grandia Digital Museum
   House of the Dead 2
   Magic Knight Rayearth
   Alone in the Dark
   Albert Odessy
   Castlevania-Symphony of the Night
   Christman Nights
   Dragon Force I&II
Dungeons and Dragons Collection (in japanese however)
and my most favorite the entire Shining Force series
As has been before mentioned the best emu that I have used with
   little
trouble if any is SSF. You need a very powerful pc to run it
   correctly
yet it does have great compatibility and gameplay. I also use Daemon
Tools unless the rip is iso and mp3, currently not supported by this.
If the game is bin cue you can mount it. Hope this can help anybody
new in saturn emulation and if anyone needs help with SSF I will try
   to
   assist.

Guess what?AO is working now,I deleted the configuration file and
loaded it up and it works fine now,No skips or out of synch bits or
anything! So I figure maybe i messed something up in the configuration.
For now I tried recreating the problems i was having all yesterday but
nothing,I mean wtf caused that anomoly?SSF is kinda buggy still i guess.
Finally I also went looking for some explaination of the option and
found this below to help anyone,it appears you can manually adjust the
clockspeed to make it run slower/faster.

But I still can't find is it possiable to make it go full screen?or is
the best that one can do double it?there is a V-synch option that says
"only in fullscreen" so i imagen there is a option but i can't for the
life of me find it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CD drive : Select the CD drive you're using to load the game. It can
be either a virtual drive in which you load the ISO of SF3 or a normal
CD-ROM device in which you insert your original CD of the game.

Cartridge : You should set this to "Backup RAM Cartridge" so that you
can use both system and cartridge memory to store your saves. (Because
the system memory alone is very limited)

Area Code : Select the area code for your game. If you don't know its
area code, test them all until the game can start.

In "Screen"

Disable "Scanline" and enable "Auto Field Skip". Also enable "Use
DirectDraw" or "Bilinear Filtering" depending on your graphic card.
(find out which one makes the game faster)

In "Sound"

Your preference.

In "Controler"

To the right of "Player1:A", click on "Redefine" and set up your
controls accordingly.

In "Program1"

Keep everything enabled except for "CD Block No Wait" and "Use VDP1
Draw Thread".

In "Program2"

Here is the most important part of the settings. Enter values that
give the game a good speed. (test many combinations if need be)
Right now, I'm using the followings :

CD Drive Read Sectors : 16
Dot Clock : 1.70~2.50 (From slow and smooth to fast and sometimes choppy)
SH2 Instruction Numbers : 150
Slave SH2 Speed (%) : 100
SH2 Recompile Block Instructions : 50
CD Sector Numbers Per Second : 150

Check "Always Running"

In "Program3"

Uncheck "CD Access LED".
Check "Pattern Name Renewal", "Check Cycle Pattern" and "Memory Access
Wait".

When you're done configuring, restart the emulator and access the
memory manager (Push F1 and try to press A and Start before the BIOS
screen). Clear the system and cartridge memory and restart again
before playing.

yeah mine doesn't use up more then one core either.

It is frusterating as i see it running perfect on youtube.

Another thing thats odd is i fine the game loads only when there is
no-bios checked,if i put a bios in it doesn't load up the game.

there are a lot of options but as far as i can see there is no guide
on what does what so maybe there is a way to synch it up?Anyone out
there able to help us

I personally have had flawless results running Albert Odessy and all
other games I tested with perfect speed and sound. I have never had
sound break up. Im using not using close what the tester used, a IBM
Intellistation Z pro with dual 2.66ghz Xeons. I just had it run too
fast on Madden 1998(E). I use max compatibility mode to run all
games and mount with Daemon Tools. I have had Albert Odessy run too
fast in the noninteractive sequences. Im using XP.

I think SSF just does not have good timing code at this point, it does
things as fast as possible. This seemed to be the case before as the
music easily broke up on NiGHTS on a slow CPU and still seems a little
fast on my Core 2 Duo. Your CPU on the other hand is FAR faster than
mine so its allowing SSF to run too fast.

Its a little odd though, its not like SSF is using all my CPU power
which you would think it would do if its running as fast as possible.
Perhaps its just an issue with Quads? The author seems to only use
dual-core CPUs for testing.

haha its funny SSF is the only one that worked for me also,And also
i'm trying to get Albert odessey to work also.It loads up but the
problem i have is that it has two problems

1 it moves to fast.everything charecters running around fast etc.like
on speed.the voice/music also has a problem its going normal and
talking fine with no distortion then suddenly there is a
skip/distortion and it jumps ahead.this happens regularly.I'm running
off the cd too.

I have a intel quadcore 6700,they had to delay my order so they bumped
it from a es6700 for free.Anyhow I also installed vista which uses up
about 200% more ram/processor then XP.I have tried SSF with
compatiability mode and it crashes on all them except XP but it runs
just as bad if not worse.

Well anyhow i have no idea what all the options mean so if anyone
could tell me how i could configure SSF to fix these problems that
would be cool

I'm not aware of Satourne being the best either. SSF has almost
always been the best to my knowledge, Giri Giri was better for a while
but then SEGA bought it out and SSF took the crown again.

I have NEVER gotten Satourne to run at all, SSF was a problem because
it always needed a PC far more powerful than I had. Giri Giri was
good middle ground but with current PC power SSF kicks major ass as
its got REALLY good compatibility.

Since I am new to this all I got a few questions

In this game it loads up fine but it is to fast.everything is moving
to fast and the audio skips,it goes on talking fine then jumps ahead.

This is frusterating its so close but so far.most of the options are
another language for me I'v tried various compatiability options with
no difference

I was just wanting to know if any websites are looking for
screenshots. I have had some really good results running ssf emulator
and want to post. I have a small collection of games however I am
relatively new to this as I recently got a computer that can run ssf
with good speeds. Thank you

Hey I spent days trying to get satorne to run this friggin albert
oddessey disk and it doesn't,I mean i load up everything, the bios etc
and nothing

I gave up on the "best" saturn emulator and tried SSF
Soon as i load it A.O loads up!!! NO configuration or anything,no bios
loaded.its just friggin loads up and plays!!!!On Vista without even
any compatiability mode locked on

I am totally floored by that I mean i didn't even have my controller
plugged in.

So anyhow i tweak around with the settings.first thing i noticed was
the really ugly grey lines and unchecked scanlines, cleared that
up.gotta ask wtf is the scanlines for?I mean no one could like that
could they?

Second thing i gotta ask is,how to make this go full Screen?????

I looked everywhere but the most i can do is double the box.which is
annoying.

So if anyone can give me a bit of advice it would be cool.

like what to tweak on and off

I got a QX6700 quadcore(they delayed my es6700 machine so they gave me
this massive upgrade) on vista home premium

nice to know there are other sega appreciators out there.

I just wish whoever was in charge of sega was shot for going with
generic action/sports games on top of all the great rpgs it has going
for it.

We have had a few new members over the past couple of months so I
thought I would welcome you here to try to get some posting going on.

Also lets not forget http://sega.csdclubs.com/ which is my preferred
place for people to post (I can easily backup that site) but I
understand if some people would prefer Yahoo if you are already
registered with them.

So, problems, suggestions, compatibility reports, get posting em!

Yes I got Giri Giri to run Shining Force III, the fonts are totally
messed up but it seemed to run at a decent pace. Never tried any
other games on it though.

There is a version of Giri Giri that works but its rather illegal as
its a hack of the version SEGA used for an online "Saturn games on
your PC" rental service in Japan.

I have no had any luck with any other emulator, personally. Even on
that version of Giri Giri, the timings WAY off sometimes. The music
on NiGHTS for example runs totally screwed up, the game itself even is
a bit dodgy especially as the emulator doesnt emulate the Analog
controller only digital. :-(

Also, I only ever got it working with a complicated system of ripping
the CD as a bin/cue set. You then have to run a program to generate a
toc file for the image. You THEN have to put it all together and
cross your fingers as it probably wont work anyway. The Saturn was a
REALLY complicated system to emulate, unfortunately it means nobody
has quite done it properly so we are stuck. Satourne looks like it
might pull it off eventually, but things are progressing painfully slowly.

OK....

I've had EVERY emulator for the saturn and can't get ANY of them to
work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (maybe if they just made the f'n sh*t simple).

I "hear" Girigiri can play games if you have the actual CD or ISO,
thing is I have BOTH the ACTUAL SATURN CD, and an ISO of it....and
can't get ANY emulator to play my F'n game! no boot-up no nothing,
can't figure out the emu's....Girigiri gives me some weird japanese
ERROR! and i can't figure out Satourne or whatever!

has anyone gotten to use their ACTUAL CD's or ISO's to work on ANY of
the emu's or is it some big hoax?

Hi Saturn Emulation Members,

Just a quick update to let you know I am still around but I havent
been active in Saturn Emulation for a while.

I am still as interested as ever, possibly moreso as PC hardware
continues to get faster, but progress still seems sickeningly slow on
Saturn Emulation so I havent been keeping up-to-date. The great thing
about a little community like this is I can count on someone to let me
know if anything truely breathtaking happens.

So, if anyone has anything to talk about by all means post about it
and if you havent already, please join the Sega Gaming & Emulation
club over at CSD Clubs. http://csdclubs.com/club?cid=4

You may also be interested in the GameZone club
http://csdclubs.com/club?cid=6 and the Sonic Team Tribute club
http://csdclubs.com/club?cid=16 where we chat about the latest games
we are anxiously awaiting.

Thankyou for remaining a member of SaturnEmulation,

Alex.

This is rather a futile effort don't you think?

Surely such a thing already exists and you are looking at it right now
(if you are using the web interface). Its called Yahoo Groups!

Why reinvent the wheel?

I admit you could do better than Yahoo, im not a huge fan. But I
think creating a forum just for the sake of trying to have every
subject is a bit of a daft idea. A good idea is to create it so that
people have a better system to use for discussions.

I dunno, sounds a bit of a stupid idea to me. By that logic you would
have to add EVERY game character who is recurring such as all the
Sonic characters and why not Luigi? Heck, why not Solid Snake or the
characters from Grand Theft Auto?

While I truely support gaming I don't think it has a place in the
Hollywood Walk of Fame.
