I think they where trying to screw you since all 3 consoles have a
waranty of 3 month IN STORE. If its in that time frame and still have
everithing (box, instruction, foam) they are supposed to exchange
it.
If you are missing something (box, instruction, foam) they not take
it
because Sony give the strore a credit of 0.01$ if somthing is
missing.
Microsoft and Nintendo its depend what is missing, box they refund
the
store 0.01$, instruction or somthing else i think its 40.00$ for each
part missing (canadian).
I only see about 2-3 Gamecube at the store at work that have that
kind

Subject: [Gameworld] Montezuma's Revenge enters GameSpy Hall Of Fame
http://www.gamespy.com/halloffame/april03/montezuma/
Montezuma's Revenge
Thankfully, this tight combination of platforming action and
think-on-your-feet puzzle solving was far better than its namesake
intestinal disorder.
By William Cassidy | April 13, 2003
The very orange Apple II version.
Yes, the title of this game is Montezuma's Revenge -- and
yes, "Montezuma's
Revenge" is a slang term for a rather unpleasant illness you
sometimes get
from drinking Mexican tap water -- but try not to giggle too much.
It may
have a funny name, but Montezuma's Revenge is totally serious about
being a
good game. Years before games like Metroid, this platformer leapt
beyond
linear, goal-oriented gameplay to create an action-adventure game
that
emphasized exploration and puzzle-solving skills in addition to quick
reflexes. It's a winning combination that will frankly leave you
feeling far
better than that other "Montezuma's Revenge."
In the game, you don the fedora of Panama Joe, an ersatz Indiana
Jones on
the trail of ancient treasure. To find it, Joe has descended into the
ancient fortress of sixteenth-century Aztec emperor Montezuma, a
many-chambered underground structure containing conveyor belts, fire
pits,
laser gates, and a small army of sinister spiders, snakes, and
skulls.
Somewhere in the bowels of this subterranean labyrinth is
Montezuma's hidden
treasure room, a repository of valuable rectangular jewels. Panama
Joe must
run and jump over obstacles and enemies, finding items and avoiding
hazards
while making his way toward the treasure chamber and its cache of
goodies.
At its heart, Montezuma's Revenge is a platform game, one most
definitely
in the Pitfall! vein, starring an explorer-type hero who runs,
jumps, and
climbs his way past deadly hazards. However, whereas Pitfall! placed
its
emphasis on more-or-less straightforward progress, Montezuma's
Revenge is
more non-linear in nature. On his way to the elusive treasure room,
Joe can
travel left or right, climb up and down, or double back on his route
at any
time. Thorough exploration is necessary to find the color-coded keys
that
unlock the doors barring Joe from his ultimate goal. In a gameplay
mechanic
used in countless titles throughout history, our hero progresses to a
certain point, finds a door he can't open, then has to retrace his
steps
looking for a key he missed. Frustrating? Sometimes, but such
setbacks are
all in a day's work for an intrepid treasure hunter.
Platforming prowess can carry Joe a long way, but making your way to
the
treasure room requires a fair amount of puzzle-solving skills as
well. Most
of the rooms in Montezuma's fortress involve a puzzle of some kind or
another. Most of these center around proper timing. Laser gates, for
example, blink in and out of existence at regular intervals. Joe
must wait
patiently for a gate to vanish, and then make a mad dash forward
before it
appears again. Make a misstep and Joe goes up in a puff of smoke.
This fate
also awaits our hero if he falls into a lava pit. Usually, such pits
are
covered by a bridge that also blinks on and off regularly. In these
cases,
Joe must anticipate the reappearance of the bridge, make a leap of
faith,
run like crazy while timing his movements to avoid any enemies that
may be
hanging around, and get his Panamanian posterior off the bridge
before it
vanishes again.
There are no real dead-ends, but you do have to circle back a lot.
Other puzzles involve knowing when and where to take a long jump --
which
requires you to realize exactly how far Joe can fall without dying --
then
figuring out how to climb back up once you've made it safely down.
Joe can't
fall very far and still survive, but if he grabs a rope or fireman's
pole on
the way down, he won't go splat. Several rooms contain a combination
of
ropes or chains, poles, steps, doors, enemies, and perhaps other
things.
It's up to you to figure out how to negotiate each room without
getting Joe
smashed, burned, or disintegrated. None of the game's puzzles can
really be
considered brainteasers, but it does requires more than fast
reflexes to
survive Montezuma's Revenge.
Aztec History
Montezuma's Revenge debuted in 1984 on the Atari 800 computer.
Interestingly, it appeared at least a full year before Super Mario
Bros.,
the game that's often credited with establishing the modern platform
genre.
It was the brainchild of 16-year-old Robert Jaeger, who licensed the
game to
Parker Brothers, which wasted no time in porting it to the Commodore
64,
IBM-PC, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, and ColecoVision. Even the Sega
Master
System was treated to a version of the game. More than 200,000
copies of
Montezuma's Revenge -- in all its various forms -- were sold. So it
was
definitely no failure, but it was perhaps not as successful as it
could've
been due to the general video game industry slump that occurred in
1984. The
fact that Revenge sold strongly in the 1984 market indicates how
good it
really was.
Be careful where you jump.
Following Revenge, Jaeger left the games industry for a stint on Wall
Street, but returned to game development in the early 1990s. As vice
president of Utopia Technologies, he oversaw the development of a 3D
sequel
called Montezuma's Return in late 1998. Unfortunately, reviews for
the 3D
game, starring Max Montezuma instead of Panama Joe, were mixed at
best.
Certainly, the update seemed to fall short of the original. The Game
Boy
Color version of Return remained true to its 2-dimensional roots and
was
modeled closely after Revenge, ultimately making it a better game.
Montezuma's Revenge lies somewhere between Pitfall! and Metroid in
the
platform game hierarchy. Not totally linear, but not totally open-
ended
either, Montezuma's Revenge is nonetheless totally enjoyable. It's
perfect
for old-school platforming fun that won't turn your stomach. .
