after a VERY long time talking about it, the DCBG's first "Interactive Walkthrough" is now online and functional, so, it just needs people to test it... this is a guide where you actually do what it teaches you AT THE SAME TIME as you read it... give it a try, post about it... more may follow in the future with more advanced stuf that can be done... sort of depends how this one goes...

no....yes....and no

you can only view SMALL mpeg files and usually
need to view them early in your session because
they use a lot of the memory cache

ok, well, i added a few new ones here and there...
http://home.earthlink.net/~insidiousplot/media/photo
s
or just...
http://home.earthlink.net/~insidiousplot/media/
and click on "photos"...

in the current directory we are adding to, "/marapr"
  (you know, "march, april") are a few new ones... i
ncluding a couple that attempt to capture some of th
e cool architecture in fort worth... couple of dece
nt ones in there... i have already added an "ALLPIC
S.html" which will, as always, be updated here and t
here until a final version is made when we fill that
  directory up...

also, in the main "/photos" directory, you will see
i pieced together a slideshow sort of deal... file
name is "SLIDESHOW.html", but, it is really iffy...
  for one, i doubt it will fully function on any dc b
rowser earlier than dreampassport premier... this i
s based on a script that HAS been tsted with dk3/dp3
  and i think only the next/previous buttons work...
anyway, it has all the pics we have ever taken and i
  have it displaying pics a bit larger, though, it of
  course, makes them look sort of funny... just sort
  of something i did when i was needing to practice s
omething in javascript, so, it may even have a termi
nal flaw or two...

this new convertible combined with the great weather
  lately has kept us out alot, so, we have been takin
g the dreameye every day and sometimes getting pics.
.. you know how it is, though, take twenty, and onl
y one or two are worth keeping... after thousands o
f pics, my average is getting better nowadays, but,
still, the directories are not exacty running over..
. but, they are trickling in...

so, anyway, there is the update...

TIP OF THE WEEK -- Using Javascript to Prevent Blank Queries - Followup

We have gotten great response from the tech tip sent last week regarding
the prevention of blank queries. There were, however, some Web pages where
the tip did not function properly. Here are some additional tips that can
help you successfully implement this solution.

1. Below is a modified JavaScript that can be placed in the <HEAD> section
of your web page which contains the search form. This script is a simple
and efficient solution.

<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
function isBlank() {
value=document.forms[0].elements['sp-q'].value;

if ( value == "" ){
         alert("Please enter search word");
         return false;
     }
     else {
     return true;
     }
}
//  End -->

Use the line below for your search button to call this script.

<input type=submit value="Search" onclick="return isBlank();">

2. If you have more than one form on your page, you may need to increment
the form number to reference the correct object on the page. For example,
if the search form code is the second form on your page, you will need to
increment the form by 1, as below.

document.forms[1].elements['sp-q'].value

An alternative to using the form number is to give your search form a name
and reference the form by its name. For, example, if your search form is
named "search_form":

<form method="get" action="http://search.atomz.com/search/"
name="search_form">

The reference to the form object would be:

document.search_form.elements['sp-q'].value

3. Currently, the alert is only displayed when the Search button is
clicked on and there is a blank query. If you would like the alert to
appear when the "Enter" key is pressed, add the onSubmit event handler to
your form code:

<form method="get" action="http://search.atomz.com/search/"
onsubmit="return isBlank();">

4. To use this script in your search results template, simply place the
JavaScript code in the <HEAD> section of your template. (To modify your
template, follow the Templates link to "Template Editor".)

To apply the script in your template, add the function to the <SEARCH-FORM>
tag as below:

<SEARCH-FORM onsubmit="return isBlank();">

live chess with Dreamcast Browsers

im posting this message because we dont have in the messages archive,a good
message to help people with it. im a e-chessplayer, and i just can use Dreamcast
browsers to play it; and i think im not alone...

corresponde (turn based) games are easy to find. there are, at least, two great
sites for correspondence/turn based chess with a Dreamcast browser:
http://www.itsyourturn.com
http://www.redrotpawn.com

  but the real challenge is live chess with a Dreamcast browser. 99% of the sites
on the webuses java interfaces or downloadable (self client) interfaces to
provide live game play. and with a Dreamcast, we cannot load java interfaces
(planetweb 3.0 users, tell me if im wrong, but i think we cannot load it with a
planetweb 3.0 too) and we cannot download chess programs. and, where is this 1%?
there is a place for play LIVE chess with a Dreamcast Browser? the answer is
caissa.com:
http://www.caissa.com

there, we can play LIVE chess with any Dreamcast browser (i dont know about
planetweb 1.1). using a Dreampassport 3.0 or a Dreampassport Premier, it can be
faster, because you can click on a piece, and after, you can do a fast click on
the square you want to move the piece, and click on the clock. using planetweb,
you need to click on the piece, wait, then click on the square, and click on the
clock.

there is one important tip: when creating a game and waiting for aopponent, you
will need to reload, until a opponent comes. if you just create the game and
wait, you will never see your new game. you will need to click reload, or visit
the other areas of the website, to see your new game.

  i hope this message can help someone. one year ago (or so), i came to Dreamcast
Browsers group, and id posted a message with this same question: "how to play
live chess with Dreamcast Browsers"? we have the answer, and if a person come
here tomorrow, searching for this answer, he/she will find it here.

Paulo Hollanda.

Hello, I don't know if this is a taboo topic or not but I was wondering if
anyone in this group, a] has the PlanetWeb 3.0 browser, and b] has good skills
creating custom CD covers. I really hate the cardboard case the 3.0 came in and
want to take the back image, and the side image and create a jewel case liner so
it can be stored in a standard CD jewel case. I thought also the inside part of
the liner could be made using the same inside as the PW2.0 or maybe the same
image as the 3.0 cover. Has anyone or could someone make this for me, and all
other people who own the 3.0 with that terrible cardboard packaging...

I hope this makes sense...

On Dreampassport 3 my chab does not work. On any disk.
I have tried PSO and the original disk AND Crazy Taxi 2.
It loads up (or seems to) but when I bring it up I get an error
message of some kind. Now heres the odd part. On DPP it
works great, no problem whatsoever. My pc version works fine.
(Although for some reason the "top 50" sites no longer appear).

Anyone got any ideas? This all started the first time I used the
"homebrew DP3" that was recently released.

But why just DP3? Anybody else having chab issues on DP3
specifically?
