I'm very happy, and I'm grateful to the Dreamcast Browsers Group
for the 'getting started 'FAQ/guide'. It was clear and easy to use
for a total novice like me, someone who is not a techhead. I don't
know who reads these posts, or if the person responsible for the
Getting Started guide will read this, but I just wanted to say thanks.

I know there are things we just don't talk about here at DCBG but I had a DPF
and to tell you all out there my DC won't boot it or any "BACK UPS" now that it
has played in my DC. I do think that it is a security measure SEGA took to
prevent unlawful use of software being made for the newer DC's.... ALL my BURNS
play on my buddies DC just fine so it's not a scratch on the discs or something
like that..... No burns will play on my DC at all now!!!
It actualy fell like a sowball. The DPF worked fine for a month or two and then
it woud only boot every once in a while..... I was doing some good "DP" work at
my site using it....... then it began to fail.... it would only load every 1 out
of 6 times or so and then it wouldn't load at all.
Well I was hating it and then when I tried another "back up" it wouldn't
boot.... And another and another..
HuM......
I realy am clueless and I know the DCBG doesn't promote pirating so this is a
"this is a your brain on drugs" story. A new DC will be on the way soon for me
so I can be ch@bbing again soon too to all of you I used to ch@b w/.
Be careful w/ the software you load OK...
Dude.....
OK.... The font is ......um..... oh.... a.... lil' bit
................cooler....

! TESTERS NEEDED !
after a VERY long time talking about it, the DCBG's first "Interactive Walkthrough" is now online and functional, so, it just needs people to test it... this is a guide where you actually do what it teaches you AT THE SAME TIME as you read it... give it a try, post about it... more may follow in the future with more advanced stuf that can be done... sort of depends how this one goes... http://home.earthlink.net/~dcbrowsers/iwt/webspace

TIP OF THE WEEK -- USING META DATA TO ADD THUMBNAIL IMAGES
You may already be using meta tags on your pages, but did you know you can
use meta data to add thumbnail images to your results? Here's the basic
steps:
1) Add a meta tag named "thumbnail" to your page, and set the content to
the URL of the thumbnail image for the page.
2) Use the Content Mining Engine to define a new field called "thumbnail",
and associate it with the "thumbnail" meta tag. Set the data type to "text"
and Search by Default to "no".
3) Use the <SEARCH-DISPLAY-FIELD> template tag to add the thumbnail image
to your results.
For example, add the following into your template:
<search-if-field name="thumbnail">
<search-lt>img src="<search-display-field name="thumbnail">"<search-gt>
</search-if-field>
If there is a value for the thumbnail field, these tags will be replaced
with the contents of the thumbnail, thus adding the <img> tag.
For more information on these features, visit the Help menu in your search
account. The Content Mining Engine is not available in Atomz Express
Search.

Well of coruse you will need a PC (at least a Pentium 120)
The fastest way would be to download a demo of "Fireworks" at:

so i assume netscape 6 and mozilla
are ok with it as well...
i never really warmed up to opera anyway,
i think im gonna ditch it, lol

oh, well, cool... that is good news... i had been
curious, especially since i had wanted to put an any
browser.org logo on it, but, didn't even know if it
was ok on any other browser...
though, i finally did it, but, chose a logo that did

heh, sort of an easter egg...
but, it has actually come up a time or two by people
that jump to conclusions and think "insidious" only
means evil, malicious, etc. and thought we might me
an some harm... i guess like if someone joins your
game is pso and his name is "I PK YOU"...
so, we have always wanted to sort of find a way to s
ay that were implying something harmless, without ac
tually posting it clearly on our page... that would
sort of assume someone cares what it means... so,
we just put it in a discreet place, yet, left the ab
ility to stumble across it... on dc browsers it is
practically invisible...

ok, well, i accomplished half the goal... i got it
to look about the same on dp and pw...
BUT, i did it by putting the whole thing inside a ta
ble that is 600 wide... so, it is likely to be pret
ty ugly on pc... but. it's gotta' be better than it
was...
btw, one of the biggest differences i am seeing is f
ont sizes... first those skyscraper letters on mozi
lla when i used font size 7, then, i am noticing tha
t using size 5 is very noticable on dp, but not much
bigger on pw than 3 is...
grrrr... you know, this is why i spend so little ti
me worrying about how the group descrip looks...
i will probably leave it the way it is for the momen
t... i have already put more time into it today tha
n i intended to...
i may put some work into my own homepage and such, b
ut, for this stuff, i am not too worried about it...
bare minimum is usually good enough...
only reason i am doing it now is because it has just
gotten so out of hand...
insidious_plots...
http://home.earthlink.net/~insidiousplot
well, dammit...
no matter what i do, it all comes out really wide on
dp... i mean big amounts of blank space on either
side of the content... which, it always does, but,
since i am trying to make it fit right, it is a prob
lem...
for the moment, i did away with the tables except fo
r the "features and partners" table... again, it fi
ts perfect on dp, yet, is narrow on pw...
now, i COULD give the table width an absolute value.
.. i hate absolute values, but, it may be the best
solution...
btw, just a note, pw automatically spaces table cell
s within a row to be even... to make it display rig
ht on dp, i had to define the width of the cells in
the rows with three cells at 33% each...
