Subject: A Little Problem With PW 2.6 - You Should Read This If You Want To Use DK
dyinginformant

As "insidious_plots" can tell you, it took me a while to be able to
use Dreamkey on Dreamcast and I couldn't figure out why. It's now
been a while since I solved the problem, and I thought I would tell
you the details before I completely forget what the problem was.

I couldn't use Dreamkey for a while. What would happen is when I
tried to connect, the screen would freeze there and I could not back
out and choose "cancel". However I could use Planetweb. Any
version. I was using 2.6. Often I would notice that the dial
option in PW was set to 'pulse' even though I always selected 'tone'
and saved it as that. I never ever changed it except for having to
change it BACK to tone over and over again. Somehow, PW ver 2.6 was
auto-saving the option as 'pulse' and I can probably safely assume
that was not compatible with Dreamkey.

Once I tried PW ver 2.0 to set the options and saved them, Dreamkey
worked. And now it will only not work if the ISP is dead, in which
case PW will also not work until I enter correct info. I don't know
if this happens on purpose because PW doesn't want you to use DK,
nor do I even know if it happens to anyone else! All I know is I
never use PW 2.6.

So if you don't get this problem, cool, you can use PW 2.6 and the
other features it has. But if you can't use Dreamkey, one of the
superior browsers to PW, check to see if PW 2.6 has the dial setting
set to 'pulse'. It has to be set to 'tone'. And for me, only PW
2.0 and earlier will assure that TONE stays saved.

But please inform me if this does or does not happen to you! I hope
my info is useful to you, because it caused me several weeks or more
(I THINK) of aggrivation, and I don't want someone else to
experience that.

Good day.

Unfortunately, you forgot all about the left and right trigger
menus, and what each thing in the menu does, including how to set up
Dreamkey's options.

Might want to update this... ;P

What games do you have? Do you have Chu Chu Rocket? Jet Grind
Radio? Sonic Adventure 2? Phantasy Star Online or ver 2? Crazy
Taxi 2? There are others as well... if you have these games you
already have Dreamkey. Read in the FAQs and Guides, there's
articles about this.

Believe me, Dreamkey is WAY better and easier to use. You only need
Planetweb for imputting your ISP info, and maybe it has some other
uses. But Dreamkey is way better, and I haven't even tried
DreamPassport which is I've heard the best one.

if your cable modem has multiple ports or you are plugging an ethernet
hub into the modem
and plugging your pc's into that then your ISP can work out how many
physical devices are
connected to your LAN since they can detect the MAC addresses (hardware
address) of
eash ethernet card. to get round this you need a proxy in between your
LAN and modem
or a router that is also IP masquerading which gives the impression that
only one device is
connected. i run the smoothwall linux dist (www.smoothwall.org) on a an
old pc with two
ethernet cards to do this.

i'm using the japanese DreamPassport for web browsing since this
supports the LAN adapter.
newer DreamKeys do support the BBA. getting hold of a BBA isn't cheap
unfortunately,
though i think in 4Q this year there's going to be another production
run of them? should bring
the price down. i just paid 30UKP for my LAN adapter from ebay.

That's all I have to do is plug my Broadband Adapter into the cable
modem? Will my ISP sense that I have another PC connected to it? I
have a network at home so the PCs can use the cable modem, but I
just want to make sure my Dreamcast can remain hidden so I don't get
charged an extra fee.

I wonder if the Broadband adapter works with Dreamkey? I only have
BMO as an online game, and it supports the BBA, but I wonder how
expensive this thing is and is it worth it?

definately get one if you can. i've just bought a LAN adapter which is
only 10 not 10/100 though still pretty cool. not sure which games are
compatible with the BBA though i know that the LanA isn't compatible
with any games. i have my LanA plugged into an ethernet hub that then
routes through a linux box connected to ADSL. if you have a cable modem
you can just plug the BBA into it.

Every expert in this group agree that the unlocked version of DK is the one
that's included in Chu Chu Rocket, but i don't see any diference from the others
(Sega Gt, Pso). Could anybody please tell me what the diferences are ?, maybe
i'm using another version of Chu Chu , or, are you talking about an import
version of Chu Chu.

Hmm. That's what I figured. Maybe I'M just not going on at good
times. The times I go on, across many different time zones is still
sleeping hours for people. Maybe we can work out something
different then. But right now, those are the only times I can get
on when the phone is not busy. UNLESS, I can get up early. But I'm
so lazy it's hard to get up before noon.

Anyone who can play post here and maybe we can figure out
something. For example, I may get lucky and be able to wake up
earlier, or be able to play at night before 12AM PST.

And it's my friend's birthday soon. She has a Dreamcast and has
never gone online on it. I'm gonna set her up, and the gift I
bought her is BMO so we can play together. But it wasn't a cheap
gift (cheap for a game, but not cheap still), that's exactly why she
didn't want to get it. Hmm. Guess I'll have to get her a real
cheap Christmas gift then.

No, there's hardly ever anyone on! That's the problem. There are
still people who play it, but they don't go on at the same times,
and often quit when they find the servers empty. So I'm trying to
get things organised. Anyone here who plays this game or wants to
play, say when you can be on. We have to get together at similar
times. Also, if you don't already know, many SegaNet servers,
including Bomberman's are FREE. But they are closing them down
forever at the end of the year. Play while you can!

I have been having some luck lately at night after 12AM PST. You
may find me on between 12 - 3 somenights. It just depends if the
phone is busy then (it SHOULDN'T be, but my teen brothers talk to
their friends at ANY time). I'm atomicpunk, but I may change my
name sometimes to better suit the character I chose. For example,
in my new wolf outfit, I rather call myself "bomberwolf" if that
fits.

Look can we move along it's aparent you are making this seem like it's nothing
to you but pushing it along like it's a mountain.

Sorry the i_p URL was your DK login when I came across it here as the DK yahoo
login and it was changed (obviously b-cuz it's i_p's web space) and that's when
I pulled out my hack of it I never said sh*t at the group until I saw a post
from someone else, you keep forgetting that when you quote my posts. It was a
concern of mine when I and others wanted to start a group we didn't want to
leave out DK users and we didn't want to take someone else's login tool. "We" is
basicaly me doing that foot work.

I was only addressing a post here (DCBG) b-cuz the DK login I had bookmarked (a
year ago) pulled a U turn on me and it (the post) caught my eye so I posted
where a remedy could be found if the problem was still about (I didn't know a
file at DCBG for the login had been created...duh...). No conspiracies or ill
feelings towards DCBG (of which I'm a member too!!!!!!!!!!). I didn't get sh*ty
about it until you (i_p) came in w/ yer snooby attitude about how all was grand
w/ the "F"in' DK login. For some of us it was a different thing (where the URL
we had Boookmarked led our lil cyber feet. BTW when's the last time you looked
at a URL in yer BM's from a year ago to know if it were i_p's or DCBG's URL? all
you'd know is if it hit or didn't hit, that's why I've been using my own hack
and by passed the URL i had originaly and said nothing........until the post
from someone else *F*). Good for you and yer web space, sh*t it was a stupid
login!!!!!!!!! And a RE: to a post !!!!!!!!!!! Let's move on now!!!!!!!

Obviously this will be something to look back on and say ??????????HUH?????????

I still think you ripped me i_p. But what the "F" right???

yup, that is my webspace... the "insidious_plots" could be said to be a
giveaway...
that is the directory that has been used to keep things handy for testing and
other purposes in this group for a very long time...
once things are finished up, they are moved to a more official place... in this
particular case, the link on the group front page makes it fairly obvious which
one is intended for use...

and yes, many things have been moved and changed at my personal webspace te last
few months for a variety of reasons...
if it was a website, i might feel obligated to make annoncements about it...
it is not... it is just a personal webspace directory that you found something
useful in...
that is the way personal webspace goes... when you just find something in
someone's directory instead of on an actual website, you never know what will
become of it...
i have noted in my logs that some people still link to files in my webspace for
some reason, so, some files there i have replaced with a warning before i delete
them completely...

yes... "DreamcastBrowsers" in the files section... handy place for it since
the group is no one's property, no one uses the files section for anything and
you know where it will be at any given time...

> Oh that's about 25 pages w/ a login that benefited this group That I have to
fix now.

again, linking to something in someone's personal directory and thinking it
would always be there was your first mistake...

no url was changed...
you simply linked to the wrong one...

sounds to me like you were linking to the test version of the login script in my
personal webspace instead the actual completed file which has been housed here
at the dcbg for quite some time...
recently, i have changed aot of things in my webspace...
since just about everything the dcbg needs is housed here, there is no reason
people should be linking to files in my personal webspace...
if you did this, i have no control over what problems you may enconter...

so I
> and other DK users wouldn't have to come to DCBG to use the DK yahoo

again, a vmu-based version has been lomg available or can be easily made by just
about anyone now, so, i am not sure why anyone would have to rely on a web-based
version, no matter where it is housed...

> I erased the JS in it that let it be tracked and so
> forth.

tracking javascript?
the file has no tracker in it...
if it did, it i because you copied it from my space, which is on geocities, and
geocities uses a tracker javascript-based cookie script...

once again, the whole mess could have been avoided by going to the actual
completed file, not the test model on my webspace...

and this line of reasoning is just absurd...
of the countless people who have used the resources at this group in it's
various incarnations for over a year and a half, very few have contributed
anything... members and non-members alike...

great things have come from non-members and many members have never had anything
to add...
whether or not someone has anything to contribute is a total non-issue...
if it was, we would not leave this place open to the public, now would we?

I have to admit I'm a little confused by all the fuss here. The first link
simply redirects traffic to the DCBG and the DK log-in. Since it's i_p's web
site I'm unclear why this would be a problem. Once someone gains access to the
script they can simply bookmark it if they no longer wish to visit the DCBG

like a "DK login", how would you explode that into some major kind of drama.

Yeah, There is a diference between this (the original DK login that now says
"login at DCBG") URL:

http://geocities.com/insidious_plots/dcbg/dkyahoologin.html

And this (the new DK login) URL:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DreamcastBrowsers/files/dkyahoologin.html

Oh that's about 25 pages w/ a login that benefited this group That I have to fix
now.
Plz don't tell me you didn't know about the URL change? That is all I was
talking about. Not a consparicsy at all here in "reality". Not paranoid fantasy
land! You insist it never changed and then hacked me for pointing out that it
did..... Dog Sh*t!

You could have said "don't get yer panties in a bunch everyone I changed the URL
for that dumb DK login, so everyone just relax...." Instead you say I made up a
theory and was some how out side of reality w/ my unfounded aligations...

I don't know what else to say... your last post about me is rediculous (I'm not
a crack pot folks) and all the while you made this bigger than it actualy is
(it's a "F"in' DK login, ~dear lord~) and then I find that the URL was changed.
Who else could've done that. That's yer stupid DK login problem crap in a nut
shell, ppl who had the old URL had to come here b-cuz you changed the login
page. It only makes me wonder what if this were a serious issue not a lame one
like a "DK login", how would you explode that into some major kind of drama.

Look I never said it was a conspiracy or anything so let me elaborate.

1st I am a member of this group not some guy who sqeeked in to
complain about DCBG conspiracies.

Now about the DK login, A while back I dunno maybe 3 weeks ago when
you hit the DK yahoo login from your bookmarks or from somewhere like
let's say another site other than DCBG you were takin to a page w/ a
link that said to login at DCBG. That's it. Where's the consparicy?

Now I would say that's a change. Curtis investigated this and found
it to be true as well and developed the sript for me at DC-SG so I
and other DK users wouldn't have to come to DCBG to use the DK yahoo
login.

BTW I FTP'ed that page like in December of last year when I first
found this group. For my own personal login and so I'd have one when
DCBG's DK logins web host might go down or if the group disbanded and
that page may be deleted and so on, I'm not a hacker but I sure aint
a dumb-ass! I erased the JS in it that let it be tracked and so
forth. I only had curtis do the new one cause he likes doing that
kinda' stuff.

So I hope that clearifies the subject a lil' more. BTW you don't need
to get so damn deffensive and belittling ppl (w/ comments like "don't
you know Ctrl+D") making them seem like they are stupid is lame.
You know me. And you know I know my shit! Thing is ppl here might not
realy know me to good and now they might think I'm a gimp 'cuz i_p
cut me down to size. I only posted that cuz I thought it was strange
someone else had DK login problems here besides me. You turned it
into I don't know what the "F" I'm talkin' about and now I must be
stewin' up consparicies.... Dude I thought we were buds but instead
you rip me...

I'll give you this much OK. I'm a bastard b-cuz all these ppl here do
all this work for DC browsing and I come along and reseach and
bookmark (and rape and pilage your knowledge for days) for later and
so on and so forth. And then I contribute nothing but my mesly like 6
posts most of which are all about this DK thing.

Well I'm sorry I use all the resouces here to often to split and
sometimes I want to post about things I find interesting (which is
seldom). You cutting me down like I'm some kiddie jack-ass is
rediculous. Sorry I must not know how to BM b-cuz I like using DK and
not DP, DPP, DPF, ect........

If there is a conspiracy I didn't create it. And if you think I am
creating one then your paranoid. I have never bad talked this group
or it's members in public or private. And yes I belong to groups who
have members that don't like some or certain DCBG ppl. So don't get
that mixxed up. Next time I have aproblem w/ something here I'll
email you (i_p) OK. So don't down talk me anymore... Deal.?
