been awhile since we built a list, but, i think one os needed... it is not
always as easy as saying "it is on most games"... so, i am going to start this
list and add it in the faqs and guides...
but, i am not the gamer here, all of you are, so, you have to tell me... as it
is, half the games i will be listing here, i don't even have, i just assume that
what i have been told is correct...

usual rule here, do not reply o this message to add a listing, FORWARD it to the
group so it does not have all the > > > in it...
btw, it would be MUCH easier to make this a database, but, databases are
members-only and i don't want someone to have to join to find out if they have
dk or not...
i may do it anyway, but, we will see...

i am going to include the name of the game, folowed by overall notes, followed
by how to acces the browser...
you will see what i mean...
i am also going to try to keep them in alphabetical order to maker the list
easier to search... (though, chu chu rocket trumps all and will be kept at the
top of the list...)

ok, let's try this...

____________________________________________________
Chu Chu Rocket

obviously the best choice...
nothing is locked out at all, it is the fullest version of dreamkey available to
u.s.'ers...

on the main menu, select 'homepage'...
____________________________________________________
Crazy Taxi 2
____________________________________________________
Daytona USA
____________________________________________________
Jet Grind Radio

this one has a major difference in the look of it, to match the game (and it is
ffffffugly!)... however, it seems to be exactly different otherwise...

EXCEPT that it is a bit trickier to get to...
you must complete the initial training mode to have the option to use the
browser... a save with this part completed is available at the dreamserv
archive...

once you have the necessary save, from the first menu, you will select 'load',
then 'internet'...
____________________________________________________
Metropolis Street Racer
____________________________________________________
Phantasy Star Online (and v2)

ah, for awhile, i never switched disks at all...
i played only pso and used the browser in it for all my www needs...

oh, of note is the fact that the dreamkey on v2 is the only one that has some
ssl support... this is included since they provided a way to buy your hunter's
license using the built-in browser...

very simple, on the main menu, select 'website'...
____________________________________________________
Sega GT
____________________________________________________
Skies Of Arcadia

for some reason, they call this thing "Internet Viewer", though it is just a
regular dreamkey v1...
though, it is the most unique i have seen yet and i would recommend it for
people starting out with dreamkey...
if you click on "what is internet viewer?" you are taken to a rather intriguing
screen which is a full-blown tutorial on how to use dreamkey, covering
everything from saving pics and sound files, controller shortcuts such as
x+direction for navigation, all with handy charts and screenshots, etc...
this is a cool version of dreamkey...
just to be clear, that stuff is ADDED, nothing else is changed about the
browser, cosmetically or functionally...

to access the browser, select 'homepage' on the main game menu...
____________________________________________________
Sonic Adventure 2
____________________________________________________

these are all the games with dreamkey that appear in the group visitor logs...
flesh out any info you know on how to access them, special notes about them, add
any games you KNOW have dreamkey, and, if i got anything wrong so far, let me
know...

ok, again, let me warn you this almost certainly is
not it... i am sure you have checked and re-checked
all your settings and would have caught it...
it is listed in the dp3/3.16 options map in the faqs

ok, next idea...

unfortunately, there is not much we can do...
we do not promote the selling of burns, and planetwe
b has not made it available for download... the lin
k to buy it from them is in the bookmarks, though, i
understand they do not ship everywhere...
now, an individual could sell theirs, but, those who
have it are pretty intent on keeping it...

in short, we are nothing but a user group, not a sup
plier of anything, so, this is one area where all we
can do is offer the links we have in the bookmarks
and that is about it, i'm afraid...

this is the eternal problem, though...
possibly the most frequently asked question here is
where to buy browsers, whether dreampassport, dreamk
ey 3, or planetweb 3...
but, there is only one answer we can give... all th
e resources we have available are listed in the book
marks... if it is not there, we do not know about i
t...

and that sucks and all, but, that is basically all w
e can do since all we are is a user group... we can
help people out who have them already with how to u
se them and such, but, aside from the two folders in
the bookmarks, there is not much else we can do...

well, our latest dreamcast (for a total of 5 now) th
at was dropped off with us as a "broken" dreamcast j
ust did not receive enough love...

the poor little thing was dusty inside, the lens was
cloudy, the ribbon cable to the gdrom drive was hal
f out and it looks like someone attempted to "fix" i
t and left some parts out...

so, after a bit of cleaning, an adjustment or two, a
nd a little confidence-boosting pep talk, it is cert
ainly in the last leg of life, but, after a few sput
ters, it managed to boot a disk, and once i flipped
it upside down, i was playing the sonic adventure de
mo without a hitch... (is it blasphemy to say i foun
d the game a bit vapid?)

and if i knew as much about the hardware as half the
people here, i could probably have it humming along
like new... as it is, it is quiet for a chinese mo
del and, hey, it is pre-10/00, so, it will even play
  burns/imports/bleem/etc....

so, we will love it, give it a good home, and try to
  nurse it back to health...
maybe we will pick up another monitor and stick it i
n the bedroom for insomnia gaming or someting...
but, the flourescent green controller has to go...
though, maybe it would be a nice addition to rez if
i turned a black light on it...

Dear DCBG

As requested, please find http://www.bookmarklets.com/tools/new.html attached
below.

Best regards

The Web2Mail team
';str='';xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject('Microsoft.XMLHTTP');W=open('','','width=500,height=300,scrollbars,resizable,status');W.status='Looking...';lnks=document.links;for(i=0;i/i)+7,r.search(/pages that link off the current page into the same domain. Again, search and summarization are fairly easy. So you get a way to analyze the "cloud of meaning" around the current page.

Mar. 26 - Ooops! A glitch (accounting error, actually) knocked bookmarklets.com offline for a while. We're back now. For the record, bookmarklets.com has no plans to disappear anytime soon. (Thanks again to those of you who found ways to write or call!)

Jan. 27 - What is this internet thing? Is it a temporary fad? Is it a passing fancy?
Lately we've been distracted by a bad economy and by bad actions, but suppose we could continue forward with ways to meld the available technology with deeper parts of us that haven't been expressed yet. Do we have the courage to explore this?
Suppose we have the technology to convey the deepest sense of what it means to be alive. Are we ready to use this?
Yes!

Jan. 23 - Oh. This is good. Hang on.

2001

Sept. 23 - Two ideas from the "why didn't I think of that before?" department:
  1. Aaron Hope writes that the format
        javascript: (function () { ... })()
eliminates the need for ugly variables (which eliminates safety concerns).
  2. JavaScript can assign values to window.name. These values will persist across domains, which provides the secure cross-domain persistence needed by bookmarklets that require within-session persistence (in other words, this can make bookmarklets much more useful). This works cross-browser (unlike the little-known fact that Netscape allows persistence of properties assigned to the navigator object) although persistence is only within the current window (new windows kill that persistence).
These are two big ideas... probably only interesting to scripters.
In other news: the site has been reviewed by the venerable NetSurfer Digest (Note: major update soon!)

Sept. 21 - The Nimda worm comes at a time when the open exchange of ideas is one of the strongest forces for peace on the planet. It can infect some versions of Internet Explorer if it is used to simply browse a webpage. If you're using Netscape or Internet Explorer 6 you will not be affected. The following bookmarklet aims to detect infection of a page by the Nimda worm:
Nimda Detector. (Explorer 4+ and Netscape 6)
If you trigger this bookmarklet on an ordinary page (i.e. one not discussing Nimda - such as this page) and it indicates possible presence of the worm, you should attempt to contact the webmaster ASAP... the site's server may have been infected and its pages may infect others. Ask the webmaster to look for patches...

Sept. 20 - A bookmarklet which displays the mirror image of an unframed page:
   Mirror Image (Explorer 4+)
The reason for this is that many cultures (such as the Japanese and Arabic cultures) read in a fashion that is mirror image to that of the West (from right-to-left instead of left-to-right), which influences perception of layout. Designers need a sense of this; the best designs balance contrasting points of view.

Sept. 19 - Not related to bookmarklets: I made some projects in late 1995 and early 1996 but never bought domain names for them. They were running under the host's domain name but at the end of this month that host will change that name, breaking over 1000 incoming links. I'm moving them to a domain name I own and linking to them from here so the search engines can find them again.
They include the original public domain animated gifs, which spawned some animated smileys. They also include Frames Decoder - a tool to help people make framed webpages - and a way to study contrasting translations from the Chinese.
All these seem quaint now, but all the more reason to remember them.

June 28 - Microsoft's smart tags are a bad idea for a web browser because people rely on author-supplied stylistic emphasis (e.g. blue underlined links) when scanning webpages. Interfering with that by placing third-party text decoration wherever there happens to be a word match will actually make it more difficult for people to comprehend the page (the tags may be "smart", but they'll make people dumber). The effect will be like this bookmarklet:
   Insert Dumb Tags (Explorer 5+)
which turns every word into a link to Microsoft.
A much much better way to provide the functionality of smart tags is through bookmarklets. If the user wants to get more information about some text it makes more sense to highlight that text and then push a button outside the browsing window, the way we do with search bookmarklets. That way there is no disruption of normal scanning when it is not needed (does anyone really need to be reminded every time they see a company name that they can get a stock quote for that company?) Beyond that, it is easier for third parties to supply their own functionality through bookmarklets than through smart tags; one could even provide something like a customizable version of More Info About.

May 27 - In preparation for Release 2, bookmarklets.com will be moving to a new host during the next day. Hopefully there won't be any bumps!

Mar. 24 - This year I've been obsessed with issues of usability and accessibility. Toward that end I've made some bookmarklets aimed at aiding the evaluation of webpages for accessibility by the disabled. The company I work with has agreed to host some of these accessibility bookmarklets and can provide more context to explain why this is important than is reasonable at bookmarklets.com. Of interest there also: a new way to keep bookmarklets, allowing many of them to be kept at a time.

Mar. 5 - I'm pulling yesterday's experiment prematurely because at the moment bookmarklets.com is not receiving email (critical for evaluating the experiment) - and I don't know what the problem is. There was a major earthquake here a few days ago - that could have something to do with it, but I don't know.
I have the obvious reservations* about asking for money, but beyond that, there are issues peculiar to bookmarklets.com; feedback from long-term users suggests that a donation of a dollar for these things would be understood as acceptable (it wouldn't come anywhere close to covering the actual cost of the site... but nonetheless) yet I worry that an appeal for money would discourage first-time users from trying a technology that is new (and ultimately beneficial to them). Maybe the experiment will be restarted later.

Mar. 4 - An experiment. Bookmarklets.com now has a "tip jar" - you can donate anywhere from $1 to $50 to the site. Amazon.com handles the credit card information. I'm trying to find some way to pay for an updated and expanded version of the site. Give if you want; if you don't, that's OK too.

Jan. 4 - Here's a second-generation search bookmarklet:
Search Google... (Explorer 5+ and Netscape 6)
which sends selected text to Google. It accommodates both Explorer 5+ and Netscape 6 and it handles arbitrarily nested frames. Handling frames is the hard part; first-generation bookmarklets stop dead when an interior frame comes from a different domain than that of the main page (which happens more frequently now because of advertisements in IFRAMEs). This uses the availability of try...catch to ignore those frames. (Note to scripters: this also demonstrates use of try...catch instead of browser detection; you try one kind of code and if it doesn't work you catch the error and try some other code.)

Welcome to the Dreamcast Web Browser Bugs/Wishlist/Improvements Tracker. The purpose of this site is to ensure that future versions of Dreamcast web browser are the best they can be. By pooling our resources and knowledge, we can help Sega improve the product many of us use on a daily basis. Let's face it, too many bugs slip past Planetweb's testers and engineers, only to be discovered within days of public release by Average Joes like you and I. Sega will be made painfully aware of each and every bug, feature request, and improvement suggestion posted here.

are actually needed...

the reason no other browser has mp3 support is becau
se it just cannot be done with the dreamcast and so
they do not waste their time or our expectations...

Are you using a Passport browser? And are you currently
on a pc or dc? Also please clarify the "vibration" part.
Additionally when you say getting chab "ready" do you
mean trying to set up an id......or are you having problems
actually running it......

bad thing is...it was one jack w/3 lines one to a fax/phone one to my
beloved dc, one to my cluncky ole pc, the pc is ok but the fax always
says "line error" anytime i try to fax out so i guess in a way it helped as
the dc didnt take the "full" charge......nevertheless this is a good example
of what lightining can do, afterwards btw we had one huge storm, hail,
thunder, torrential rain but it passed in about 30 minutes

nothing visual.....a storm approached quickly while i was online and
i should have known better, but there was a sudden "popping" noise
and i was suddenly disconnected, naturally i thought my dc was fried
but it seemed ok so after the storm passed i kept getting the "check
modem setting warning" i tested the line on my phone and it was ok
so after 7 or so attempts i switched modems and it connected fine,
you can't actually see the fuse unless you take it apart so i can only
assume it is blown.....but it possibly saved my dc.......

yeah, i pretty much forced him to go over to the mpe
gs bookmarks just to be sure, and he pointed out tha
t the euro dk's have always been able to play mpegs.
.. i have dk1.5 here, of course, but, have not both

  us...
how we missed it, i have no clue... seems damn near
impossile we never heard about it...

yet, there it is...

speaking of dc stuff, someone just dropped off a bro
ken dc for us... this makes the fifth we have in th
e house, plus another 2 official controllers, a red
vmu, a pw2.0, and some demo disk...
i should put our collection list on the web and link
it from our homepage at this point... for non-game
r types, it is getting to be kinda' big...
