Hey, I recently got a Dreamcast (and keyboard) and have had maybe more
fun IRC chatting with it with my dial up internet than actually
playing game. Nice game system! :)

I would like to someday get the Dreamcast to telnet or dial into BBS's
that I still like to check in on, and would like to do that with the
Dreamcast, so that, if nothing else, I can only have the Dreamcast on
my desk. :)

If you have any pointers on this, let me know.

Doesn't have to be modem only options.. I plan on picking up a
broadband adaptor in the near future.

Hi,

Something interesting from Wikipedia... and I thought the Dreamcast
was official dead this year!!

The Return of the Dreamcast

On February 16, 2006, Sega once again began selling Dreamcast consoles
through its online store, Sega Direct of Japan. The package deal
included a refurbished Dreamcast, a cell phone card, and Radilgy — a
new 2D shooter game by developer Milestone. A short time later,
developer G.rev followed that game with a second new 2D shooter game
called Under Defeat in March. Both releases were for the Japanese
market alone. While the refurbished package has been discontinued,
Sega Direct does still sell several Dreamcast software titles.[5]

On May 20, 2006, Sega of Japan went live with free Phantasy Star
Online servers.[6] A translated excerpt from the article reads, "I
would like "Phantasy Star Online" to play forever in users. [...]
Please continue your favors toward the degree in which 'Phantasy Star
Online' is patronized."

On May 30, 2006, the gaming website IGN officially relaunched IGN
Dreamcast with the goal of revisiting the 243 North American-released
Dreamcast games and give "new impressions, screens and videos" and
compare them to the gaming experience provided by PlayStation 3, Xbox
360, and Wii games.

On January 31, 2007, a port of the Neo Geo game Last Hope, developed
by NG:DEV.TEAM was published by redspotgames via Play-Asia.com and
various other stores. The GOAT store has planned other games which
will be released in the 2007.

On February 22, 2007, a port of the Naomi powered 2D shooter Trigger
Heart Exelica, developed by Warashi, was released on Dreamcast for the
Japanese market with both a current and a limited edition release.
Despite rumors that went around the internet, the game was not
retitled to Trigger Heart Extension for the Dreamcast release.

Milestone announced that Karous, their new NAOMI vertical shooter,
would be making its way to Dreamcast on March 8, 2007.

On April 1, 2007, the official servers for Phantasy Star Online were
closed. Later a campaign via paper petition to Sega Europe started,
but Sega Europe finally said they will not support Phantasy Star
online for Dreamcast or give the software to a third-party.

Hi all,

Just been searching through the Japanese manual of Phantasy Star ONline which I
recently acquired. I found adverts in the back for several Sega and Dreamcast
related sites.

I believe we have all heard of ISAO ( http://www.isao.net ). They have stored
all the Dreamcast Japanese games online sites, including the PSO VBBS (huge
online PSO photo album, by PSO fans). Anyway, I discovered that ISAO stands for
Interactive Services for Amusement Online. I didn't know that.

Also, how many of you know what CRI is short for? I didn't know until now, but
it stands for CSK (Sega's parent company) Research Institute. Remember, CRI
created MPEG Sofdec and ADX (sound) which are used on all of the Dreamcast
games. ADX sound is still used today on some Gamecube (and other platforms?)
games.

Lastly, Dreamcast Direct ( http://www.d-direct.ne.jp ) is no more - I'm not sure
when it closed, so it ay have been closed for years! You are now redirected to
Sega's Japanese online shop ( http://segadirect.co.jp ). This is where I found
some info on some of the new Dreamcast games coming out in Japan this year
(2007), but more on those tomorrow.

Dear members,

A few months ago I acquired the japanese version of CART (aka Super Speed
Racing), a japanese version of PSO and a Hong Kong Dreamcast (I can tell, as it
has no modem - just the plastic bit with no modem cable slot!).

Anyway, I haven't played any of the other Dreamcast racers in ages (I have
pretty much all the Sega ones) and loved it. It does, however, have appalling
graphics (it was made in 1999), awful music (well, it's not to my taste),
non-existant AI and plenty of slowdown (despite clipping in the distance!). I
was wondering if anyone could recommend any Indy Car/CART style racers. I don't
mind if they are US only as I can play NTSC games ;)

I also got the Japanese version of PSO, as mentioned earlier, and was wondering
if it has anything that the western (US or European) releases didn't have. It
does have the Sonic Adventure 2 Trial Demo, but I'm sure we had that in the west
(not sure if it came with PSO or some other game).

I've used DK3 too on my US DC, it's Full Screen
for me too when I set it's screen size to Large.
Jerky scrolling sounds like you need to set the
Scrolling option to a diffrent number to achive a
smoother scroll.

Hi folks,

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I had to switch from a UK (PAL) Dreamcast to a Japanese (NTSC) one. However,
despite my memory cards being present at boot (I had to use a boot-disk) when
going online DK3 did not recognise the presence of the "DREAMKEY.SY3" settings
file.
I had to delete the original and change the settings to my liking and then
resave (after deleting the original file - it would not let me over-write,
unlike on my PAL DC).

Are all these problems related to using a boot-disk so I could use DK3 on my
Japanese DC? Also, is there any way to "force" a 60Hz display? On my UK DC the
up/down scrolling was super smooth, but on my Jap DC it is slightly jerky and
the image is now full screen (as opposed to bordered PAL).

Any comments/suggestions welcome.

Genre(s) Rail shooter

Trigger Heart Exelica is a shooter by Warashi, makers of the Saturn shooting
game Shienryu. It was released in Japanese arcades in early 2006. The game runs
on Sega's Naomi hardware.

The game involves playing 1 of 2 anthropomorphic fighters to battle against 5
stages of enemy ships. Exelica specialized in wide area attacks, while Crueltear
uses concentrated front shots. Player can fire anchor to catch enemy ships, then
use the caught unit as shield or throw it to inflict more damage. Like Zanac,
this game dynamic adjusts difficuly based on player's in-game performance.

Dreamcast Version

Warashi has announced that they will be porting the game to Dreamcast. The
tentative release date for this port is February 22, 2007.

Hi all,

Just wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I just got nearly all the official (US) Dreamcast Magazine demo discs arrive in
the post, after winning them on ebay. I am missing Vol. 2 Dec 1999 and if anyone
has that I would love to buy it off you. I also have Generator Vol. 1 & 2 :)

Most of the discs have various versions of a web browser (Planetweb? - I haven't
got far enough through them to know yet) and I was wondering if they are fully
usable versions online and which version/s I should perhaps avoid, or look out
for.
Going by the cardboard disc covers they are versions 1.1 (Vol. 4, Mar 2000), 2.0
(Vol. 6, July 2000), 2.0 with SegaNet (Vols. 7, Sept 2000; 8, Nov 2000; 9, Dec
2000; 10, Jan 2001) and 2.6 (Vol. 11, Feb 2001).

Any dial-up account should work except America Online or Compuserv.

Anyone know if the USA free isp type stuff still works with the dc? I

Well, the European DC PSO servers are still up. The USA ones closed in 2005?

I was fortunate enough to play Bomberman Online (after I got it from the USA)
for a couple of months before it closed. Despite the 1 second lag (servers in
USA and me here in UK) it was great fun.

This is always what happens to me, I'm not much of an online gamer, but by

It was a DC made for Arcades, the name was probably the name of the arcade

Regulation No. 7 (what's that? a game?) branded Dreamcast.

I have a few questions too...

Was the extension (ext.) port on the back of the Dreamcast used for anything?

I have (somewhere) a Japanese music making program for the Dreamcast I am going
to try and dig up this weekend. I was wondering if anyone knew it's title, as I
haven't used it in 6 years?

Yeah, all thanks to Sony Europe. They repeatedly got Liksang involved in
lawsuits over the importing of the PSP into UK/Europe. It didn't come to light
until afterwards that several execs from Sony Euroe regularly used liksang to
import stuff!

Liksang was where I got the last Dreamcast games from.

Very sad news indeed. Play-Asia was also "threatened" by sony and
they stopped shipping sony products to the EU months ago. Many
customs agents (in the EU again) have orders to report about packages
with the name "sony" or "playstation" on it, making import shops'
life impossible. I know the owner of one of these shops and he
doesn't import any psp related articles anymore.

But again I think sony is carving their own tomb. The only thing they
have left are a few exclusive games for the ps3, but titles don't
remain "exclusive" for too long these days...

Hi folks...

Just cruised over to one of my favorite
import sites (lik-sang.com) only to be
greeted with the following.....

Recent headlines: Important Notice: Lik-Sang.com Out of Business due to
Multiple Sony Lawsuits

I have done business there multible times for
hard to find items and must admit I was a bit
startled to see they are not accepting ANY orders

Another end-of-an-era I guess.......
