i dont think pw js is good enough for the "open window" bookmarklet if
thats what you meant, at least not versions under pw3.
anyway there is a simple way to get the actual URL of a link from a
javascript:window.open() link, just look the parametters of the
function, the location should be in here, if its a relative path youll
have to paste it at the end of the current directory path (base href),
or use location="relative_path_url"

hi all. all this virus new thing is really boring:( then, Im here to tell about
a very good java applet compatible with pw3:

many DCBG members knows me, and many members knows im a Hardcore Chess player.
well, the java applet at caissa.com is compatible, of course. but i found
another one, and its even better.

http://www.chessclub.com/interface/java.html

then, click on the "simple chess" link. no logins, no free trial memberships
(goodbye caissa:)), lots of players, and 100% compatible. this link is not on
the "applets thatk works with pw3" bookmarks, then,Iam posting it here. I will
stop at bookmarks to add this link. please, DCBG fellas, take a look at this
applet. its soooooo god, unbelievable, but it works with planetweb 3.0:)

And to add a few things about MYDOOM
====================================

The MyDoom virus is transmitted thru
e-mail and Kazaa. The effects:

-Disables anti virus software
-Installs a keystroke logging
program(aka spyware)
-E-mails itself to everyone on your
email address book
-Opens a back door for hackers
-copies to download directories of
computers with Kazaa

How will you know if you got an
e-mail with MyDoom?

The e-mail's subject will be
something like 'Mail Delivery
System', 'Test', or 'Delivery
Faliure.' When you read the mail it
will error saying it has unreadable
characters and uses substitute
characters/binary.

They dont even have to have you in their address book, just having an Email in their Inbox from you or from/through the Group is enough....Scary eh, Lol.

Yup. All the hype and warnings about viruses and still some ppl never learn...
To be fair i'm beginning to think that with this one just actually opening the Mail is enough...But personally i wouldnt/havent even do that on my PC. Any dodgy lookin emails i check out with my Mobile Phone or Dreamcast but most of the time i dont even do that, they stand out a mile so i just delete them straightaway.

Well thats certainly not something I
actually sent. As I mentioned before the
virus inserts random addresses into the
"from" field. Matter of fact that address
is a Yahoo web mail.

Obviously its gathering names from the group
(or was). This is all due to someone clicking
an attachement that had my addy in their book
as well as the DCBG address.

Again, I find it incredibly stupid that a
person would blindly click an attecment without
at least scanning it first.

Very much like KLEZ which was
circulating a few years ago. I had no
less than 18 in two accounts simply
because I'm in some address books.
All were the same virus. Plus I've
been fielding questions as to why
some "came from me" (which in fact
they didn't, my addy was harvested).

All in all an aggravation although
this one as you mention does much
more damage and opens a backdoor to
the infected machine. There's even
reports it inserts a keylogger.

The last one was a .TXT file, but
closer examination showed it was
actually TXT.EXE.

Hard to believe people open
unsolicited attachements but
obviously they do, despite all the
publicity and warnings.

Yeah i noticed these early this morning when i was checkin my Yahoo emails on my phone. It wouldnt display the messages and just said it was in Unicode with a binary attachment. To be honest i think anyone with a bit of sense can see they are suss just by looking at the titles, they stand out a mile. I'd never of even attempted to open it on my PC. As long as you keep your virus definitions up to date with your Anti Virus Software you should be ok anyway, i use Norton with Automatic Updates Notification. You should always scan attachments, even ones from ppl you know. I scan everything i recieve or download, it only takes a few seconds.

Just wonderin, is there anyone here who doesnt use AntiVirus Software? Its a MUST imo... Even if you dont have Norton or McAffee you can download freebies like AVG. Its probably worse to have an Antivirus with outdated virus definitions than to have none at all....Its a false sense of security.

Hi,

I recieved notification of a new virus at work this
morning (we have a rather big firewall you see, whic
h had stopped 200 emails containing this virus since
last night). Apparently it does a few things (hope
I can recall this all correctly):

1) It messes with your hard-drive so it automaticall
y runs on boot-up. One file it messes with is one of
the .dll files. It also creates an .exe file which
gets stored on your hard-drve.

2)It sends itself (the virus) to people stored in yo
ur address book using random 'to' and 'from' address
es. Subject and/or 'to' & 'from' addresses can also
be random characters.

Erm.. .thats all I can recall.

See my previous email regarding the warning I got at
  work.

What I was told is that it hides the IP and/or uses
a fake one to be untraceable (or as untraceable as y
ou can be).

Bleh, I got those too, and a bunch of bounced messages this morning, so
I assume someone's infected that has me in their address book and it's
forging it. I hate these stupid viruses.
