you cant sign up to free.fr out of france for one simple reason, this
is not a hosting service but an isp and they ask your real adress and
mail to send your hosting/isp informations by mail (not email), thats
also why i cant make you an account sorry.
about hosts accepting .htaccess files i know tripod wont allow the
direct saving of file named .htaccess via ftp but if you use a cgi
script to write the file dynamically it will work. prohosting
allows .htaccess files if i remember correctly

If its just a basic internet box i dont think so. It
would help if you knew what the browser in the box
supported. You cant download stuff so no you cant
download any messengers as such, your only other
option would be if the box supports Java, does it? You
can check what the browser in the box supports by
going to http://www.gemal.dk and using the browser
spy. If it supports Irc there is a trick you can use
to message Aol Aim Users but you'd need to sign up for
an account yourself and its no better than being in a
chatroom, nothing like an Instant Messenger.

Thats good. Yeah DreamPassport Premier seems to have
problems with more memory intensive pages etc, one of
its failings. Ive noticed it in the past like with
BlueSwirls Vmu Icon Maker and with Flash Games i have
tried. DreamPassport v3.0 is better in this department
but Dreamkey v3.0 is better still, the best browser
for surfing imo, i can never understand why its so overlooked.

Hey All,

For all those sharing their broadband connections with their DC via
the modem-to-modem configuration...what type of modems are you using
in your PC's? I was just looking to compile a list of modems that
have been successfully setup this way.

I hear Winmodems don't usually work this way...but I wanted to make a
list and post it to the group for reference.

Thanx!

you can now upload your VM files directly to your host via FTP
without having to relay on planetwebmasters buggy uploader.
this one will also create the .htaccess file needed for dk/dp surfers
if you check the box, it can also extract the files embeded in dk/dp
saves.
the interface is quite poor for now and i wouldnt be surprised if
bugs would appear but it will be improved from time to time.
here it is, enjoy:

well i admit thats strange sega europe send european browsers to usa
resident but maybe they accept to do that now that they have
undistributed stocks. about the sega-europe website i never read
anywhere on their site a form you could fill to ask for dk2.0

>It wasnt released in Dreamcast Console Packs

not in france neither, and you couldn't ask for it like i did for
dk3.0 from sega-europe website, not when it was released anyway

> One thing, you are assuming that Dreamkey v2.0 allows

because i know some russian people who actually have dk2.0, and i
also heard about dk2.0 before dk3.0 was released, now the infos i
have heard could be wrong but thats what i believe till i dont have
one in my hands, what will probably wont happen anyway

> Are
> you positive on that?

i cant swear of nothing but im quite confident on that info

> I remember when Dreamkey v3.0
> was announced it was announced a the first Dreamkey to
> allow you to choose your ISP.

yes thats it, actually thats why i told you i dont think dk2.0 was
released in uk because you would have heard of it and everybody would
have get it before dk3.0, not only because of the ability to change
the isp but also because when a new browser is out its normal people
are curious to use it and would have asked it to sega europe, a lot
of people would have it now if it would be the case. it never
happened in france afaik

im not sure at all spain and norway didnt have their dk1.0 and 1.5
but if they didnt its quite logic they got dk2.0, i dont know about
them. like you said dk3.0 was released just before the end of
dreamarena, and from what i heard it has been created in a rush,
actually dk2.0 and dk3.0 could be very close, prooving that sega
could have distributed it a long time before they did, if dk2.0
allows you to choose your isp its an evidence sega just wanted to
keep dk2.0 "secret" til we could use their service as our default
isp, now theres no more dreamarena isp i can understand they dont
care about sending extra dk2.0

Well heres a statement from a friend in the USA who i
know has Dreamkey v2.0. I asked him how did he get it
and he said "I ordered it from Sega Europe"
Surely if they sent one to him in the USA they would
send one to anyone in Europe who ordered it from their
Website? It wasnt released in Dreamcast Console Packs
like Dreamkey v1.0 and Dreamkey v1.5 thou thats for
sure, well not in the UK anyway...
One thing, you are assuming that Dreamkey v2.0 allows
you to choose your own ISP, why do you think that? Are
you positive on that? I remember when Dreamkey v3.0
was announced it was announced a the first Dreamkey to
allow you to choose your ISP.
I came onto the DC Scene in January 2002, about 2
months before the end of DreamArena and a matter of
weeks before the release of Dreamkey v3.0 so anything
before then i aint really sure of but from everything
i've heard i'm pretty certain it got a Full European
release but only if you bothered to order it from Sega
Europe. I also think that Spain, Norway etc got it
released in their Dreamcast Console Packs because
obviously they wouldnt have got Dreamkey v1.0 and v1.5.

personnally i don't think every employees of sega europe really know
what they are talking about, im sure of one thing dk2.0 was never
released in france and i highly doubt it was released in uk.
i know it was released in belgium or swiss, also at the time it has
been released dreamarena was still alive and they didnt want to let
us choose our fai.
the countries who obtained this browser are the one where dreamarena
was not operationnal as a fai i think.
spanish dk3.1 is something different, if dk3.0 was released in spain
like your friend told you the only reason why dk3.1 was released to
me is because dk3.0 is not in spanish, or dk3.0 was not released in
spain which could explain its not in spanish.

I just emailed Sega Europe about something and while i
was at it thought i'd enquire about the Elusive
Dreamkey v2.0, here is what they said to me.

So it was in fact released in the UK and presumably
all other European Countries and not just the Later
Countries like Spain, Norway etc to get access to
DreamArena as was previously thought, but was only
available by ordering it from Sega Europe i presume
hence why there seem to be so few about... There must
be some copies around somewhere so hopefully i will
eventually come across one.

I very much doubt he'd modify the Pic. I doubt its a
Limited Edition either, it could be a number or
reasons the colour is different in that picture:
1. Thats a picture of a Prototype Dreameye and they
decided to change the colour for the retail release.
2. They made Dreameyes at different factories(Or just
at different times even) and just used a different
colour part.
My copy of Sonic Adventure 10th Anniversary Pack is
unlike any others i have seen, the Spindle that holds
the Gold Music CD is Clear on mine yet all others i
have seen have a White Spindle, its not an Extra
Limited Edition thou. When i recieve my Dreameye i'll
tell ya what colour the Lens is on mine :)

Received it a couple days ago but some disc doesnt work becasue i dont have a
boot disc and couple disc is defective, But the Dpp work fine. Also now i know
why Rich say that bookmarklet page on my site doesnt work, The angelfire ad
mess up the page if you use dpp, nothing wrong with dp3 or dk1 though. I also
just change it, http://www.angelfire.com/ult/dc/bookmarklet1.txt and remove some
unless one. Recommend you save that page to your VMU. click on VMU notepad ,
then click load from URL then save it.

My Dreameye's lens area is all yellow, no orange &
blue (or is it black?) swirl on it... is that

just to avoid the confusion: dk3.1 is not the custom browser
insidious plot was talking about, dk3.1 is a licensed product
distributed by sega of europe to spain resident (normally).
the "dcbg" custom browser is a modified dpp if i remember correctly
and contains parts of the archives of this group in local files (i
think thats y it has been called like that, not because it was
claiming to be approved by this group).
since this group has the policy of not supporting this kind of
browser (modified browsers redistributed) its pure waste to ask here
where to find it and all.
again im not saying modified browsers are all crap and im not in any
war opposing any group to any other, its just the rules of this group
not talking pubicly about warez and i resepect them

Howdy DCBGer's,
Just letting ppl know that I have
just received my "Dreamkey 3.1" browser. I live in
AUSTRALIA and it looks like it travelled by surface
mail, that would explain the long wait, approx 3-4
months. Cyber Shinobi posted the info months ago so I
ordered a 3.1 pronto. So my guess is that for all
those that got in quick with their orders, will
probably receive them sometime soon. I have written
this email using the 3.1, so it will become a "SEGA
DREAMCAST" collectors item. I own 2x Dreamkey 1.0's, a
Dreamkey 3.0, a Planetweb 3.0 and now a Dreamkey 3.1!

oh ok, i didnt know you were talking about the filemanager, yes its
seems like a bug, but i dont know if the bug is the fact that the
file loaded doesnt alter the options settings or if its that
the "load" option shouldnt be there for the SYS file, to me the 2nd
possibility is the most probable. sorry for not having understoof
what you meant from the 1st time, i didnt mean i didnt believe u i
just didnt know what u were talking about

If you change the settings (or insert a VM with the
SYS file after it has booted and gone online) and tr
y to get the settings to work by clicking on the 'fi
le' menu and loading it up manually (thats why I men
tioned about the bookmark thing).

Does that make sense? Do you understand now?

just to be totally clear to anyone who may have the
wrong idea...

the "DCBG Custom Browser" being developed and distri
buted has nothing to do with DCBG, except for what i
t's makers have done to it to try to make it look li
ke a "DCBG project" of some kind... at best it is a
misguided tribute, at worst it is a fraud trying to
create an illusion of affiliation with the DCBG...
only the creator can know for sure... it was made
without any DCBG affiliation or cooperation, this sh
ould be especially obvious because of the well-known
, long-held, firm policy that this group has nothing
to do with the so-called custom browsers or any oth
er illegal software pirating activities of any kind.
..

for future reference, anything "officially DCBG", in
other words directly affiliated or partnered with t
his group (such as the bookmarklet lab), will always
be and has almost always been listed on the group f
ront page...
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DreamcastBrowsers
if it is not listed there, it has no direct affiliat
ion with this group...

see the official dcbg faq and the statement in the t
utorials and guides about custom browsers to read up
  on this subject...
the DCBG does not produce nor distribute any product
s, physical, digital or otherwise... information is
the only commodity originating from here and that w
ill almost certainly never change...

Try using http://world.altavista.com to translate it,
just enter the Url into the translator. I wouldnt get
your hopes up thou, ive ordered it 4 times in the past
9months and never recieved it :( I asked a Spanish
friend in the end and luckily he had a spare one.
Still worth a try thou, you never know you might get lucky.
