it is an "unofficial" disk in the sense that it does not have sega's
approval

it is not something you can download, it is a real product that must
be bought like a game or anything else, downloading and burning it is
the same as downloading and burning a game - it would be considered
pirated

i just remembered i never tried since i never thought about this
utility as a boot disc for imports, but after a test i discovered it
was launching imports too, i dunno if it can boot as many games as dc-
x but i would recommand it more than utopia now i know it also has
this feature

you should be able to know if its a gd or a cd just by looking at how
the tracks are burned, if theres a blank sector or not, and if theres
the sega license hologram or not.
now if its a cd it doesnt mean its unofficial, i just meant i dont
think its a programm u can download everywhere and some store only
burned and sold it, but from what i understood u say it has no mark
on the jacket, no copyright nowhere neither on the cd or displayed on
the screen, so maybe its not official.
i personnally never found any site that allowed u to dl it, only
places that were selling it

I have Utopia 1.1 and 1.2 , but (unless my 1.2 is fa

uch less reliable than 1.1
Recently i found that 1.1 won;t boot StarLancer but
I have the CDX for that :)

ok thats not what i meant by official, u see the games/softs not made
by sega can be official if they had permissions to use their tools or
are not using them (last example is feet of fury, official product
made without katana, gd-rom or any sega dev tool). utopia is totally
free and isnt offcial, selling it is prohibited afaik.
gameshark/action replay is official but the images have been widely
distributed after some people cracked the official dc mag demos,
about dc-x i think its official cause its sold as a dc product, u
cant download it on dc dev sites like boob.co.uk

theres no way to make a disc become selfboot by modifying the dc ram,
thats only what boot discs do. i didnt know dc-x was unofficial, are
u sure theres no official version? cause everytime i saw it it was
sold, and quite expensive for what it is, i dont think so many sites
would sell it if it wasnt official

No DCX isnt on a GDRom i think its just on a CD. The
reason i say that is 1, its an unofficial product and
2 it acts like a self booting backup when you use it
eg. it doesnt autoboot when you put the disc in when
you consoles switched on.

Its the same boards that they use at Dreamennia Swirl
and used at Sega Europe... Now this is just a guess
but i think its logging him out when he tries to post
a Message/Reply in the Forums, if so then its down to
his Settings in his Username Profile...Theres an
option to switch Cookies on or off to enable Tracking
while using the boards now if he changes that option
it should fix his problem, by turning Cookie Tracking
off i think....Maybe on...Lol. The reason i suggest
this is because a guy at Dreamennia was having a
similar prob and i suggested he altered his Cookie
Tracking settings and it worked. I maybe wrong about
this case thou, this is just an educated guess.

If you describe your problem and exactly whats
happening when you try to post that may help. Is it
logging you out? I've used those type of Boards before
it could be to do with your Cookie Settings in your
Profile Options on the site, check to see if you have
Cookies Enabled in your Profile Options and if you
have try turning them off and see if you can post
then... Or if they are off try turning them on and
then try posting.

you probably have the last version of the utopia boot disc, with a
more classic page, and when it starts it doesnt show the 0gdtex.pvr
image reflected on the animal anymore.
i meant theres an utopia boot disc that have been modified, its based
on the first boot disc version but it automatically switches in 60hz.
the last utopia boot disc definitely loads more games than the 1st
version, i personnally never had problems booting imports with it, i
heard dc-x was used for shenmueII or head hunter but i dont know if
the last utopia boot disc doesnt load them properly, it seems the 1st
one didnt anyway.
about dream hakker its used to boot any bin or sh4 programm, so it
doesnt work with imports, only with cd-r.
like karl said the advantage of utopia is its free, dc-x is harder to
find and u have to buy it, its distributed on official gd format
afaik.
so if u have to buy something buy dc-x, or else get one of the free
boot discs, to me its utopia's

I have Utopia v1.2, i thought that was the last one? I
only got it from http://www.megagames.com a few months
ago. It does boot most but doesnt boot all my Imports,
it gets stuck on about 97% loaded everytime on the
games in question. I dont really buy copies i prefer
originals if possible, the only reason i got it was to
boot my NB Copy of Rune Jade which it does fine. So
Dream Hacker is better for Back Ups, is it any good
for Imports too? They arent really that necesary for
back ups now because majority are self booting anyway.

Hey do you know how you said Utopia gives you the
option to boot in 60hz like DCX how do you access that
option then? On DCX you just press any button on te
Joypad before you put your game in and it brings up a
Menu screen, i havent noticed anything like that on
Utopia, not mine anyway and i thought mine was the
newset one, unless they've released another very recently.

I'd have to recommend the UTOPIA disc if all you need to do
is play imports. It's quick, free and the presentation is VERY nice.
(Very professional.) Overall though I agree DC-X is the best choice if you can
find one.

dcx is probably the best indeed, but i dont think u have the last
utopia update, this one is booting almost every import, but like u
mentionned it has less options than dcx. utopia is not the good boot
disc to launch cd-r u know, dream hakker is a lot better for this task

Yeah Gameshark should work fine for Imports. I have
Exploder which is just the European name for Gameshark
and it works fine for me. Even the Free Exploder Demo
Disc i got with the UK-DCM mag boots all my Imports
fine. Utopia is unreliable i have it and it doesnt
work on a few of my Imports but i think it works on
most and it is Free. Its more for booting Back Ups
which none of the Official Boot Discs can do they are
only for Imports.

Specialised Import Discs like DCX which do nothing but
boot imports are the best because they work on more
imports than the others and also give you the option
of booting the game in 50hz Pal or 60hz Ntsc, it even
forces a full screen on Pal Games that dont contain a
60hz option....They also run Multiple Disc Import
games like D2, Gameshark or Utopia cant do that. Also
you can use it to trick the game/software into
thinking its using the required connection, for
example how Aliensrcool said he couldnt use Visual
Park with an RGB/Scart Lead with DCX you can.

Anyway if all you want it for is Visual Park just get
what is easiest for you to get hold of because any of
those 3 will probably work.

i suppose every gameshark will work, u can also use the latest utopia
boot disc, theres also a modified utopia boot disc which display the
import in 60hz mode in the case youre using a pal system for a ntsc
game.
you may want to visit www.megagames.com if you or someone you know
has a pc and a burner, i think there is a good choice of boot discs
in their dc section

I use freeloader loads (though not recently) and its
always been fine.. transloader.com is a fine choice
but I have to go a special route for itt work (on D
K3), but it does work.

err im not sure of what u meant, sorry if i say the same thing u did.
what i meant is sometimes an image or a sound could be corrupted
after it has been extracted, and it doesnt detect anything but sounds
or images (and not every format of them i think).
i dont want to sound too proud of myself but u should use my uploader
instead, it has been updated more recently than droleens extractor,
it can extract any file type, even those dreamkey/dreampassport
shouldnt support (saved with quicksave or another tool that uses this
method), it extracts the real content of the file based on the good
vms structure so no risk it gets corrupted, theres an inner ftp
client what is simplier to me.
the "drawback" is its uploading the file to the public saves list, so
if it contains something u dont want other ppl can dl u'd better not
to use my public uploader.
thats why ill make a private uploader soon that will allow you to
directly transfer your files to your host. kind of what
planetwebmasters vm uploader already does but without the vmi bug
that prevent dk/dp users to dl the uploaded files. it will also
extract the content of the file if its a dk/dp file.
the only thing i hope is ppl will stop being paranoid and think i
have nothing else to do but collecting users ftp infos to look at the
content of their site, this way hopefully my work will stop being a
waste
