Dear Morgan,

You might want to ask if any of the beta testers have new adventures
nearly ready to go.

I know with Duke Nukem- see previous post on free computer game
adventures- many people started building adventures who did not
finish them.

Dragon Bane 1 was fun, you should buy it.

My wife talked me into creating a Dragon Bane 2 Engine Adventure
(DB2EA) a few days ago- and if it works she will also be writing one-
but I don't know if either will ever be finished. If we do finish
them, I don't know if we will release them to the public (freeware,
shareware, commercial ware). I just spent a 12-18 hours adding 5
spells, 2 items, 2 characters and 1 class to SampleAdventure. Not to
mention, I still haven't fixed the summoned elementals in HERO_VB.TXT
yet, which reminds me I have to ask Gabe and Jason something.

I must admit I was hoping DB2ACK would include the maps from "Return
to Kra'an" and I could play it with new characters, classes, spells,
items and monsters. Mythological Software realizes the source code
to the maps is worth lots o' currency and have not released them.
The map, character, class, spell, item and monster files are all
compiled together, so you need the map's source code. I have spoken
to Gabe and Jason about other aspects of DB2E. I believe this
integral compiling was a conscious decision on their part to preserve
game balance, simplify the programming and give the map's creator
ultimate control on the game balance for each map. The creator can
decide to release the source code for maps, characters, classes,
spells, items and monsters or just the compiled adventure. They have
generously supplied all the source code for "Return of Kra'an" except
the maps. Thus eliminating man years of work for an aspiring DB2EA
writer.

If you ask nicely, a bunch of people on the Internet might get
together a "dungeon tile" shop. Each tile could be designed to link
to other tiles using an agreed upon format, the simplest would
be "forward movement" at (1,1) and (25,25) and "backward movement" at
(25,1) and (1,25). By simple chaining the tiles, you could build
quick dungeons. The occasional non-tile levels could be thrown in
for variety or it could be a straight "dungeon crawl". "Dungeon
Crawls" would just need a beginning level, with backward movement
removed, and an ending level, with forward movement removed.

Sincerely yours,
Nuke 'em from 20'

I can't seem to get to the Silver Key. I'm in the NW room, but
everytime I move, a zombie (or zombie lord) pops up blocking my way.

I've moved around the room and killed like 20 of them so far with no
luck.

How do you get around them?

For backwards compatibility with older Palm OS versions, Dragon Bane II has
it's own sound setting (because older devices didn't have a system wide
one). Go into the options inside Dragon Bane II and you can turn off the

You don't need any entries in SYSTEM.INI, and if you move the DRAGONBANE2
setting into AUTOEXEC.BAT (and add the SET in front) you should be set.
However, the mapeditor should give an error message saying that DRAGONBANE2
isn't set? What happens when you run the mapeditor with the above settings?
You should either see an error or see the map to edit...

Dear Sirs and Madams,

Using the Dragon Bane 2 Engine, is the spell list for each class
limited to a maximum of 6 combat and 6 non-combat spells (or 6 dual
combat/ non-combat spells) per spell level?

I know the thief Pick Lock/ Trap Zap slips through this limit, but
seems to be the only case.

"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing"
	 - Any Computer Help Desk

Hi,
I downloaded the Dragon Bane 2 Adventure Construction Kit
(DB2ACK) and I am trying to run a program, MAPEDIT.EXE. I double
clicked on SAMPLE1.MAP and designated MAPEDIT.EXE as the program to
open .MAP files. When when I first double clicked it, I got an error
message about MAPEDIT_TMP. Now I do not get the error message, but
I'm not sure I did this right. I am trying to run MAPEDIT.EXE on a
Windows 95 machine, but I would also like to run it on a Windows 98
machine. The following are the two sets of directions from the
documentation:

>=========================
			 Directions, 1st set

Before you can use any of the DB2ACK tools, you must set some system
environment variables. The variables that must be set are: (note your
actual paths may differ depending on what directory you install your
SampleAdventure in)

DRAGONBANE2 = D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure
MAPEDIT_TMP = D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\maps\mapedit.rsc
MAPEDIT_WALLATTR = D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\wallattr.bin

			 Directions, 2nd set

Also note that before using the mapeditor, you will need to set two
environment variables to tell the mapeditor where two files are
located:

mapedit.tmp - stores temporary information used by the mapeditor such
as values of cut and paste buffers.
SET MAPEDIT_TMP=C:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\maps\mapedit.tmp
Note that although you may have multiple mapeditor windows open at
the same time, only the first one you open will be able to use the
mapedit.rsc file. This is important if you are trying to copy and
paste special squares between maps. Make sure only the source map is
open when you copy the square. Close the source map to release the
mapedit.rsc file, and then you can open the destination map (which
will subsequently obtain its own lock on the temp file) so you can
paste the wall in.

wallattr.bin - this file is generated each time you run mkpdbs to
rebuild the walls pdb. It stores information about what walls are
available.
SET MAPEDIT_WALLATTR=C:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\wallattr.bin
=========================<

The DB2ACK is installed on my D:\ drive. I ran SYSEDIT and added the
following to AUTOEXEC.BAT & SYSTEM.INI
>=========================
			 C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
SET MAPEDIT_TMP=D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\maps\mapedit.tmp
SET MAPEDIT_WALLATTR=D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\wallattr.bin

			 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI
[DB2ACK]
DRAGONBANE2=D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure
MAPEDIT_TMP=D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\maps\mapedit.rsc
MAPEDIT_WALLATTR=D:\DB2ACK\SampleAdventure\wallattr.bin
=========================<

It appears I know enough to get into trouble, but not enough to
understand what I am doing. Any help in this matter would be
apperciated.

In DB I they called it "confused"

in DB II they call it "dazed"

Try a cure confusion spell. Poe, and Tesser can both do it (level 5 and

You must really be desparate.

you have to get the stone key from Crypt 3, and then you can get the
crypt key from Crypt 2. To get to Crypt 3 look for some unsteady floors

the hole in the ceiling and surrounding area for the way back up.

Having finished "Return of Kra'an" including the Easter level and
finished reading the Dragon Bane 2 Adventure Creation Kit
documentation:

Things I would like in Dragon Bane 2 engine

Transfer Experience/ Change Class or a Hiring Hall
       Wait/ Recharge/ Long Move/ Return Move Command
       Spell explanations in game
       Place to store items
       Stables for non-summoned pack animals

Transfer Experience/ Change Class/ Hiring Hall

In "Return of Kra'an" my party was consistantly 4-2 levels higher
than the new characters I would encounter (Unger, Kopos, Ophelia,
etc). At the end when I wanted a second thief (Ophelia 14th level) I
had to give up Wytheria who was 18th level. It would be nice if you
could transfer experience between characters, maybe magically
transfer experience points at the temple bestowing 800 Experience per
1000 Experience drained (but only from a higher Experience character
to a lower Experience character) or even 500 Experience per 1000
Experience drained. You could also have characters in Inns gain
experience each day. Or each time a party looks in the an Inn, the
characters in the inn have a chance of gaining experience {Chance of
Gaining Experience%= ((Total Party Experience Level - (Inn
Character's Current Level * 5)) * 4, Experience Gained= (Experience
Lowest Member of Party - Experience Inn Character) / 10}. Perhaps
allow characters to change classes but lose experience when they do
so.

You could add a Hiring Hall. Just like the weapon/ armor/ magic
shop, based randomness and on the party's level, different characters
are in the Hiring Hall each day and the people in the Hiring Hall
vary in level but their maximum level is one level below the lowest
member in the party.

       Wait/ Recharge/ Long Move/ Return Move Command

A Wait, Recharge, Long Move or Return Move function. I wander the
wilderness to recharge my spell points which puts wear and tear on my
Palm m500 buttons, (I would buy the game pad if they had it for the
m500). A Wait function would be nice, where you could specifiy how
many turns you wish to pass then that much time passes helping you
recharge in the sunlight. Maybe a Recharge function where you enter
how many spell points you want a character to recharge, and time
passes until those many spell points recharge or night comes and you
stop recharging.

Usually I travel back and forth in front of the city to recharge so
maybe a Long Move command where you specify a direction (N, S, E, W)
and how far (1-10) and your party is moved that far or until it comes
to unmapped territory or encounters a wandering monster (this
function would also be handy when travelling between cities or down
long dungeon corridors).

A Return Move command could let you enter a number from 1-100 and
your party would retrace it's last 1-100 movements. This would be
useful for travelling between locations. Program could clear the
stack everytime a one way square was used (Portal spell, hole in
floor, etc).

       Spell Explanations in Game

It would be nice if you could look up explanations of spells.
Perhaps when the game engine asks "OPEN PORTAL, CAST THIS, SPELL?,
(YES), (NO)" it could instead ask "OPEN PORTAL, CAST THIS, SPELL?,
(YES), (NO), (DESCRIBE)" or "TREAT PLAYER, CAST THIS, SPELL ON,
WHICH, CHARACTER?, (CANCEL), (DESCRIBE)". If you click
on "(DESCRIBE)"
it would give you a summary of the spell.

       Place to Store Items

A base of operations were the party can store items. It is annoying
to have extra sunfruits and have to sell them or use them since the
party is out of item slots and all the characters in Inns are also
full. It would be nice when you find equipment the party can't use
yet, like extra bows before the theif, sorcerer and necromancer can
use a bow, to store it some place (especially since ranged weapons
count as spell weapons). If not a free base of operations, perhaps a
5% fee to put something in storage.

Stable/ Spell for Non-Summoned/ Dispell Immune Pack Animals

It would be nice if you could get pack animals (example: pony,
donkey, pack horse, rhino, clay horse, stone horse, steel horse, wind
horse, and divine horse) instead of/ or in addition to the summoned
creatures. The pack animals can not attack, but does have 10 item
slots. If pack animals can be attacked by monsters, then higher
level pack animals would have higher hit points, tougher armor class,
and the ability to regenerate hit points and/ or cast healing spells
on themselves.

Oops - that spell chart was written before we finished the necro
spell stuff. You can find the complete list of vampire spell types
in the lists/spells.txt file. I'll update the doc to reflect all
the types for the next release.

Dear Kennethstokka,

I did not find out until recently how to save games to my PC drive,
thus expanding my saved game slots from 8 to a whole bunch.

If you would like, I will try and post my lowest saved game to the
File section of this forum. Currently it is saved with both dragon
keys (red & blue), Caleb, Heric, Poe, Ensir, Wythera at 18th level.

Sincerely yours,
Nuke 'em from 20'

All I can say is look for the usual....secret doors and buttons. I am
currently on my way back to the crypt for a second run through. I'll
let you know when I get there.

MythoLogical Software Releases the Dragon Bane II Adventure
Construction Kit

San Jose, CA -- MythoLogical Software announces the release of its
free Dragon Bane II Adventure Construction Kit ("DB2ACK"). Many
Dragon Bane II players, delighted with MythoLogical's recent "Return
of Kra'an" adventure, have eagerly anticipated new challenges and
worlds to explore using the feature-rich game engine. Using
powerful graphical tools running on the PC, fans can now create
their own adventures and distribute them to a community of Dragon
Bane II users who will be able to download and play multiple
adventures on their device at the same time.

Ambitious developers can re-design much of the game from scratch;
modifying everything from the game's interface to the graphics. But
in the case where a more casual designer chooses to simply create
new maps, the Dragon Bane II engine allows data and graphics to be
shared between adventures to conserve memory on the device.

Hi all,

I think I am finished with the crypt, but I am curious about level
3, there seems to be 3 areas that I can't get to:

a 'T' shaped area aroung 1,6
a 'blob' area around 15,20
a 'block around 26,26

Is this correct or am I missing something. These 3 areas only
account for about 10% of lvl 3, so it is not much.

I have the blood and head so I am done here, just curious.

Thanks,
Mark

It would be really helpful if spells that are only visible & / or
castable during battles could always be visible (but inactive or
greyed out) unless a battle is in progress. Then you know what will
be available. Also If you make all spells examanable as suggested in
an earlier message, you would be able to learn about these
spells as you go.

In DB 2 being able to examine fruit & items is fantastic. I really
think you need a similar function for spells. Having to always resort
to a print out (or Documents to Go) in order to help decide which
spells to use is not as good as it could get.

After defeating Kra'an, carefully explore Kra'an's Lair 2, watch for anything strange, and quickly check your map when you find anything odd.
