No one here mentioned having sent a report to Mythological regarding
this sudden death issue. Maybe someone did but just didn't mention it
here. In any case, I went ahead and sent them a report at their
support e-mail address, along with the same save file that I earlier
uploaded to this forum. I'll keep you posted when I hear something
from them.

Hi,

When you enter the grav lift to the student shops you automatically go to street
level.  At street level you have the choice of exiting or going to the student
shops.

Next version (1.0.4.10?), I might just remove the choice and treat it like a
regular tube way (teleport).

Originally the adventure was large like "Return of Kra'an" (MSRK), and called
Grimflaed (ATGA) after the planet.  Grimflaed was for characters circle 1- 15
with bonus levels for circle 17 & 27 characters (a circle is a character
level).  Programming Grimflaed is taking too long.  Grimflaed has been broken
up into two smaller adventures, Saexgryth (ATSA) and Beowilid: Saexgryth Pt 2
(ATBA).  Saexgryth is for characters circle 1- 10 and Beowilid is for
characters circle 10- 15 with bonus levels for circle 17 & 27 characters.

Thank you.  I am glad you like the game.

Hi,

Originally, the demo version of "Beta Saexgryth" included only 4 color grayscale
graphics. The PPC is not designed for grayscale and crashed the PDA.

While we plan to release a grascale version of Saexgryth 1.0.4 for the Palm OS,
we have currently released the 256 color version.

We are told that the 256 color version runs fine on the PPC by our focus group.
We do not have any PPCs to test this on.

The first half of Saexgryth 1.0.4, until you defeat the Snap Dragon+ and
retrieve the RED GLO SOUTH PASS* (a key), is free. Go ahead and play it.
There is no reason to pay for the second half if you do not like the first
half.

Hi,

I tried running the saved game file in POSE and got the following:

"The creation date in the database header inside "DrgSaveMSRK" is zero.

The Emulator does not consider this to be a problem, and neither does the Palm
OS. However, some versions of HotSync will test for this condition and report
an error, so you may wish to fix the database before trying to install it on a
device."

Also, when I load saved game 1, the bottom half of the screen is okay. However,
for the top half, I get a picture of Heric and the following menu:

SELECT AN

INVENTORY

ITEM

When I load saved game 8, the bottom half of the screen is okay. However, for
the top half, I get a picture of Caleb and the following menu:

CALEB

KNIGHT

(STATISTICS)

(INVENTORY)

Both of these issues go away when you refresh the screen.

Except for those non-important issues, when I run it in POSE, I have no
glitches. I tried the first fight after the troll teleporter over and over for
an hour with no result. Then I played the game for 6 hours, stopping when I got
the Eye of Soli. I will be buying a new PDA for christmas, after I get it, I
can try the saved game on my old Palm m500.

I tried again with various sets of Lizard Summoners, and still can't
get it. If anyone can repro, it would really help to know exactly
what the configuration is (number, distance, type of each monster) and
  the battle sequence.

As I said previously, this has happened to me multiple times against
several creatures. I do not have Wizard Wall. When the Summoner or
Scorpion King appears at 20-30', I typically cast near foe with
Caleb, and attack with the next 3 characters which all have bows.
Defend with the last one.

I also have this problem in the Princess Demelza adventure. I have
discovered that this happens only when I encounter a creature that
attacks from far away, like a Lizard Summoner or Scorpion King. Not
only will the 1st member of your party die, but so will the 2nd if
you don't kill the creature during that round.

I find it happens all over the adventure, not in any specific place.

Thanks William. So what about grimflaed, is that a sequel to Saexgryth you are working on? By the way I have started playing the new version. Noticed 1 little bug, when taking the lift to the dorms it says "down" but if you catch the lift back up again to ground level it still says "down". Maybe needs another local state controling going up. Otherwise great game so far!!

Simon.

Simon Jacobs

Hi Simon,

Your license key for Saexgryth is still valid with the latest release.  Do not
pay for Saexgryth.  Paying for Saexgryth will simply give you the license key
again.

New players need to download the file once.  After they play the first half for
free (thus making sure it works with their hardware), they will then purchase a
license key from ( www.palmgear.com ).

Your version 1.0.3 saved game will not work.  If you upgrade to 1.0.4.8 you will
get a "corrupt file" error and it will erase your saved game.  Several of the
items in 1.0.4.8 are different from version 1.0.3, especially I'FIELDs.

You have at least two options:
A) continue playing your current game, and upgrade to 1.0.4.8 when you are
finished and start over.

B) delete your current saved game and upgrade to 1.0.4.8, when you are done with
the first half, use your license key.

When you upgrade, simply go to ( www.palmgear.com ) and download the .ZIP file.
Your license key will work with the latest file without you having to pay again.

I did not upload the file to the Yahoo! Groups TMU-Saexgryth, since I am having
problems with uploading files to Yahoo! Groups.

There seems to be little interest in Dragon Blossom, so I it will not be
uploaded to ( www.palmgear.com ).

-William

That's what I would have suspected, but I thought I remembered reading

All adventure files (and save game files) should be interchanchable on
any platform.

I downloaded the save game and it plays fine on the Palm version. I
went to the door at 2,24 and walked around a little while until I
encountered something. I fought for a couple rounds then ran and
didn't get the bug.

I also tried walking around some more and encountered about 5
different groups. Each time, I fought a few rounds and ran, but never
got the bug.

Finally, using a special debug version of the game, I could construct
scenarios with lizard summoners at various distances, with and without
an elemental (Wizard Wall) in the party. Each time, I played a few
rounds and gave up without encountering the bug.

Can anyone else help to reproduce this? It would help a lot if you
knew exactly what happened before it occurred so I can try to setup
that scenario. Did you have a WizardWall? Exactly what monsters were
you fighting (including quantity, and distances)? What attack
commands did you issue, and what attacks did the enemy do?

Thanks,
Jason

I'm positive I asked this before, but does this adventure not work on
the PPC version of Dragon Bane II? I'd really like to pay it, but I
don't want to shell out another $25 first to get the Palm version of a
game I already own.

Hi Simon,

Your license key for Saexgryth is still valid with the latest release.
Do not
pay for Saexgryth. Paying for Saexgryth will simply give you the
license key
again.

New players need to download the file once. After they play the first
half for
free (thus making sure it works with their hardware), they will then
purchase a
license key from ( www.palmgear.com ).

Your version 1.0.3 saved game will not work. If you upgrade to 1.0.4.8
you will
get a "corrupt file" error and it will erase your saved game. Several
of the
items in 1.0.4.8 are different from version 1.0.3, especially I'FIELDs.

You have at least two options:
A) continue playing your current game, and upgrade to 1.0.4.8 when you
are
finished and start over.

B) delete your current saved game and upgrade to 1.0.4.8, when you are
done with
the first half, use your license key.

When you upgrade, simply go to ( www.palmgear.com ) and download the
.ZIP file.
Your license key will work with the latest file without you having to
pay again.

I did not upload the file to the Yahoo! Groups TMU-Saexgryth, since I am
having
problems with uploading files to Yahoo! Groups.

There seems to be little interest in Dragon Blossom, so I it will not be
uploaded to ( www.palmgear.com ).

For some reason, my reply from yesterday did not post.
It happens, yes, in the dungeon below that city - the one West of
Tralon, I guess it is where you described. Typically it has happened
when battling a Summoner. Enemy summons a creature at 10'. The moment
that round is over (when the enemy summoned) and I am faced with the
round choices: I click "FIGHT" and immediately, Caleb is dead. I have
not tried this with a different player in the front position. Perhaps
I will try that, to see if it is the position that is defective, or
Caleb. Either way, poor fellow, he keeps dying. I have had to abandon
several work-in-progress games because of this, but I save often, so
at most I lost a few minutes of progress.

I hope an update is released. This is major-annoying.

-William

OK, I uploaded the save file. It's in \Files\DB2 Saved Games\MSRK
Saved Games, and the description is "PPC 1.0.5 Save Before Sudden
Death of Caleb". If you restore the entry labelled "Talon Cloister
Sewe", the party will be standing just outside the king's residence
in New Treleon. Enter the teleporter, and you'll be at the troll's
teleporter in the Talon Cloiser sewer. Head toward the bronze key
door at (2,24). My experience has been that in the first battle you
engage in, no matter where it happens or what you're fighting, Caleb
has about a 50/50 chance of dying inexplicably. And it always
happens in the first "round". So if you complete the first round of
combat and Caleb is still alive, finish the battle, reset, and try
again. Or keep playing if you want - maybe it will happen in a later
battle, but that hasn't happened with me.

Good luck!
Dale

William,

A while ago I purchased a license key for Saexgryth. Will this number still
work after reaching the end of the demo or do I need the full version sent
to me now?

Also what happened to Dragon Blossom?

Regards,
Simon Jacobs

Hi,

You can download Saexgryth 1.0.4.8 at:

The demo is the first half of the adventure.

Hardware issue: We do not have access to the Dragon Bane 2 Engine source
code. Play the demo version completely to make sure your hardware does not
have issues with this adventure script.

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed report.  Can you post that save game to the forum Files section?  Maybe someone on a Palm OS device can try to repeat your steps and we can find out if the bug is specific to Win Mobile.

Also note there is a History command in battle – at least in the Palm version, you can get to it using the application menu (not the in-game menu, but the OS title bar menu).  That way you can double check the text that played in the most recent battle to see if there is a note about Caleb getting hit.

Also, maybe the person who originally reported this problem – if you’re reading, can you say where in the game it happened?  If it also happened in the same map and against the same bad guys or similar bad guys, that would be a clue.

Jason

I had an incident of "sudden death" last night.  Unfortunately, I
hadn't read this thread yet so I didn't know how to document the
situation to send in to Mythological. I'm playing Version 1.0.5 PPC
on an IPAQ HX2495 with Windows CE 5.0.  I was in the sewer under
Talon Cloister, had just gone through the door requiring the bronze
key, and faced either a party of Eagle guards, or a lizard summoner
and lizards. I've had it happen facing either group. In the first
round of battle after encountering the "bad guys", Caleb dies with
full hit points.  I didn't see any message indicating that anything
had hit him.  And as I recall, Eagle guards don't use magic, so there
shouldn't have been any chance of anything other than a physical
attack in that case.  Which means either Caleb took 50 HP of damage
from the baddies (Caleb apparently dies with full HP, which is
currently 50) and the game didn't display the HP correctly, or
there's a glitch in the game causing the death.  The rest of the
party (in order) consisted of Unger, Heric, Mordor, and Poe, with
nobody in slot 6.

I have a save position just before this at the troll's teleporter,
and have replayed from this save point several times. About half the
time Caleb inexplicably dies in the first battle after I teleport
back to the sewer, no matter where the battle occurs and no matter
what monsters they face, and about half the time he doesn't.

I'll try and document this next time it happens.

Thanks for the reply, Simon! I understand about real life taking
precedence over gaming. I just hadn't seen any other references to
the Demelza sequel and was curious about it.

As for the other games... I had completely finished both DBI and DBII-
Kraan. I made it about 2/3 of the way through Demelza back when I
was playing the games regularly. Fantastic game! It wasn't lack of
interest that took me away, more so a lack of time. I think I'm
going to try to make the time to play my way through both DBII and
Demelza on my IPAQ. Just this morning I tried to enter the license
info from the Palm version of DBII into my IPAQ, and it won't take
it. So I'll need to re-register the games before I can play them all
the way through. I've only had the IPAQ for about a week, so it's
taking some time to locate equivalent Pocket PC apps for all the Palm
apps I've been using for the last several years.

Thanks again for the note!
Dale

Yes it is coming, but I have 3 young Kids and it is taking longer than
expected. As it is it took a good year working several hours every day to
write Demelza. Did you end up getting through either Demelza or Kraan?

Subject: [DragonBaneII] Any news on Demelza II - Evil Awaits?

Greetings!

I've been away from the DragonBane game world for a couple of years
now, and got re-interested when I upgraded my handheld. I went from a
Palm-based device to a Pocket-PC device, and was pleasantly surprised
to find that DBII works on my new IPAQ! While searching for the
necessary downloads, I saw a note on one of the game vendor web pages
that said something like "Look for 'Demelza II - Evil Awaits', coming
in 2004".

Has Simon Jacobs said anything about plans for releasing this game?
Other than that mention at the gaming site, I can't find any other
references to it on the 'net or in this forum.

Thank you!

Come to think of it, I do believe I had an elemental in slot 6.
I avoided a few fights, and it has not happened since.

I'll photograph it if it happens again.

I have had this happen a few times myself (also 1.0.5 PPC). However,
since I save so often, it hasn't really been a problem for me. That
being said, it would be nice to get it fixed, since it usually seems
to happen during a bigger fight (and you can't get out of the fight
until it is finished).
