I am sure it is the right door. During the day it says it is locked,
but that it is a tavern.

Ok, now I'm really frustrated. I've been to the location of the
Lonely Spirits Pub every day of the week, and though I am allowed to
enter, it is always an empty building. MUST I go in this pub to
finish the game?
If not, could you answer my question about the Enchanted Grove.
Thanks.

Are you sure you're trying the right door? As I recall there are some places near it that are normal rooms. If you go the the tavern in the daytime you get a message that there is a tavern here but the door is locked.

The Lonely Spirits tavern is at location (24,1) in New Treleon. You have to enter at night, which is probably later than you think. If I remember right, 'night' comes after 'evening', so it is after midnight.

I must be the worst player of Dragon Bane II out there, because I see no one else who is having the problems I am.
First, in the town you start off in, I go to the NorthWest to go to the secret bar, but all I see on the wall is a sign that says 'revenge'. I cannot find the bar itself. Help. I have waited until night, but still no go.
Also, in the NorthWest of the outdoor map, I try and go to the Enchanted Grove, which I assume holds the catacombs, but the trees are 'impassable'. Again, I have tried passing these trees at all times of the day, but no go. Help.

Started playing Saexgryth. Great adventure! Love the new graphics, weapons &
characters. I can see William put a lot of work into this. The tribute to
the Challenger space shuttle is nice as well. The way you can set your own
difficulty levels & even commence at another point in the adventure by
visiting the interiors is also another different idea.
It really is quite surprising how different Dragon Bane Adventures can be if
you put some thought into adventure design. The whole game really is a
remarkable credit to Gabe & Jason who designed an amazing game engine and
adventure construction kit enabling hours of play in RTK and giving people
like William & myself the opportunity to design adventures like Princess
Demelza set in the medieval Dragon Bane environment right through to
Saexgryth set in a brand new futuristic university campus environment.
William's adventure is called Grimflaed and it takes place as described
above in a brand new futuristic university campus environment William calls
the Techno University. The game is available in 3 "flavors". Dragon Blossom
is a limited version of the full game that he has released and is completely
free so long as you don't mind using black & white graphics. Personally you
are better off spending the $10.00 and purchasing the colour graphics which
make Dragon Bane the engine seem all brand new & fresh again. Now for
another $5.00 you can purchase a larger version of the same game called
Saexgryth. This is what I am currently playing and the game really is quite
clever and most importantly completely different to RTK or PD. So I think
this $15.00 is well spent.
Now there is a third version of the game which is the full version called
Grimflaed which William has not finished as yet which is the complete
adventure from Dragon Blossom right through. I initially expressed concern
that if you tried the free Dragon Blossom then wanted to upgrade to
Saexgryth then upgrade again to Grimflaed you would always have to restart
because saved games are not transferable between adventures.
However William assures me that you currently will only have to restart
between the free Dragon Blossom & Saexgryth. Very cleverly between Saexgryth
& Grimflaed you can upgrade & the Grimflaed upgrade will emulate where you
would have been up to had you completed Saexgryth. (Character levels,
monster densities & I guess he will reveal maps that would have been
completely exposed by this stage?)
It appears William has also got around the registration limitation in the
Dragon Bane engine in that you can only either publish a demo or full
version of the adventure - not a full version with a license key. I haven't
seen this yet but apparently when you get to the level in Grimflaed that
comes after you would have completed Saexgryth you will be asked for a code.
You then supply William with the reference code & he will return you an
unlock code. The only problem with this is that you need a new unlock code
every time you restart & only William can supply it. So if he gets run over
by a bus or defeated (killed) by rat lad we can never play the registered
version of Grimflaed again!!
Seriously, this license idea is a good innovation as look what happened to
me - I have only published PD on 3 sights yet it is available for sale in 27
different languages on over 200 sites world wide! Anyone wanting to market
PD just has to purchase 1 registered version and away they go.
It would be good if the DBII ACK did have some facility for a license key. I
estimate I would have lost a few thousand dollars so far through illegal
sales.
Once again - congratulations William on a job well done!
Regards,
Simon Jacobs

Hi,
I have ammended the party recommendation document as follows:
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
->->->->-> STORAGE (1 hit point, WIZ WALL ELEMENTAL [NOTE 6])
Note 6) STORAGE always miss with gun or handweapon. STORAGE have 1
hit point and AC+30. If a monster attacks them, the monster almost
always hit (95%), and kills a STORAGE character. A Hobby That Pays,
Inc. (AHTPI) does not have access to the source code for Dragon Bane
2 Engine (DB2E). STORAGE is an attempt to let players store items
for later use. For example if you FIRE-KIN (WIZARD) cannot use TORSO
4 FLEX.B* armor yet but your STRIKER, WATER-KIN and GUARD all have
TORSO 5 FLEX armor already, you might want to save the TORSO 4
FLEX.B* amor for your FIRE-KIN. On 4 shade & 16 shade gray PDAs, it
is very hard to see an item that is grayed out (character who has it
cannot use it). To make it easier for these PDAs to read the items a
STORAGE character has, they have MELEE & PROJECTILE 40, and INVOKE
31. However, any handweapon or ranged weapon (gun, WHIRL&,
HARN'GUN+, invoker spellweapon) that a STORAGE character uses, will
always miss a monster. If you give a STORAGE character a HEAL WAND
86 and place him in party slot 5, the first monster with a gun who
shoots at the character will 95% kill him. Also 50% of monsters have
guns or spells.

Hi Dana,
You can download Dragon Blossom OSI for free from the DragonBaneII
Yahoo! Group file section.
http://www.groups.yahoo.com/group/DragonBaneII
As per our conversation in message 1479 (see below) if you do
download Dragon Blossom OSI, open the file (monsters_tm.txt). I
could not discuss it before due to business reasons, but the MOUNTAIN
has an AC +30 (very easy to hit) and 30,000 hit points. The VOLCANO
is AC +30 with 60,000 hit points. Whenever my party runs into them,
I usually runaway.
If by produce anything you mean an adventure related, Dennis Burns is
beta testing a "new Adventure editor. It is a full featured graphical
editor including tiles, wall, heros, objects and of course maps."
See message 2562 below.
Marcus released a "Visual DB2ACK Tool v.1.00". See message 2516 below
I have not tried either one.

Hi,
If you are playing Dragon Blossom OSI (ATBA), you should read the
following document.
William
A Hobby That Pays, Inc.
=
Recommended Party (Note 1):
STRIKER
WATER-KIN
GUARD
FIRE-KIN
HEART-KIN (Note 2)
Non-recommended parties should only be used by experienced (Note 3)
TechnoMagic University™(tm) customers.
Comparing TechnoMagic University™(tm) classes to Dragon Bane
2:"Return of Kra'an" (MSRK)
Matching classes to similar in combat (using only armor, handweapons
or guns) not spells or special abilities.
-> GUARD (KNIGHT)
->->-> CYBORG (KNIGHT/DWARF)
->-> EARTH-KIN (DWARF)
->->-> BUILDER (DWARF/THIEF)
-> WATER-KIN (THIEF)
->->-> RANGER (TROGLODYTE/THIEF)
->-> AIR-KIN (TROGLODYTE)
->->-> VEX-PSI (ARCHER/TROGLODYTE)
-> STRIKER (ARCHER)
->->-> ASSASSIN (KNIGHT/ARCHER/THIEF)
-> FIRE-KIN (WIZARD)
->->-> M'DESTRO (DWARF/THIEF/WIZARD)
->-> SPIRIT-KIN (NECROMANCER)
->->-> M'HEALER (DWARF/THIEF/SORCERER)
-> HEART-KIN (SORCERER)
->->-> SENSER (TROGLODYTE/THIEF)
->->-> MONITOR (WIZ WALL ELEMENTAL [Note 4])
->->-> FURY (GRIZZLY ELEMENTAL [Note 5])
Note 1) It is recommended that you have a FIRE-KIN or SPIRIT-KIN in
your party since that have spells that can attack a group of
monsters. Most monsters appear in groups of 3 individuals, but can
be as high as 7 individuals. Half of all monsters have guns or
spells. FIRE-KIN regenerates spellpoints at a very fast rate. FIRE-
KIN also have spells that can attack all monsters in all groups
within range of the spell.
STRIKER and WATER-KIN have spells that can let you avoid random
monster encounters (STEALTH in MSRK). If you are hurt, you can use
these spells to get back to the starting map and safety.
WATER-KIN and GUARD have a spell that can revive a defeated character
(SAVING THROW in MSRK).
Note 2) It is recommended that you have a HEART-KIN in all of your
parties until you have at least completed CLEARING, ORCHARD HOUSE,
FACTORY, GREENHOUSE, OFFICE EAST and ARENA EAST stratas (overhead
maps). ARENA EAST is especially difficult without a HEART-KIN. If
you are outgunned by the monsters, a HEART-KIN can keep your party
alive long enough to RUN from a powerful creature.
Note 3) It is recommended that you at least complete CLEARING and
ORCHARD HOUSE stratas (overhead maps) before using a non-recommended
party.
Note 4) MONITOR always misses with handweapon or gun. MONITORs can
only use their fists for 2-3 damage. It is almost impossible to kill
a MONITOR. Since they do not need weapons or armor, they can carry
10 items for the party.
Note 5) FURY always miss with handweapon or gun. Furies can only use
their fists for 2-3 damage or Fury claws; FURY04 CLAWS!< (9-18
damage) up to FURY22 CLAWS!< (39-78 damage). Fury claws are
available for free. Go to "INTERIORS (1,5)", party facing South.
FURYs have many hit points. Between battles they heal hit points at
a phenomenal rate. Since they cannot use armor, they can carry 9
items for the party. Note: FURYs have a high PROJECTILE skill
because of their superhuman speed. However, they will always miss
with guns.

Hi Eric,
It depends. Dragon Bane 2 is a really cool PDA game (Note 1). The
source code it is not all under one roof (Note 2). I was able to
work on the problem some more (Note 3) and think I may have fixed
it. If you would like to try the fix, that would be cool (Note 4).
In fact, other people might want to try the fix. It will definitely
work on color Palm OS (Note 5). In color, the map symbols are cool,
though they are designed to work with 4 shade grayscale just as well.
I cannot stress this enough, if you are trying this on a PDA (Note
6), backup your PDA before running Dragon Blossom OSI.
William
A Hobby That Pays, Inc.
Note 1) The Dragon Bane series takes the limitations of a PDA - small
screen size, short battery life, no keyboard, no CD-ROM manual - and
creates a Role-Playing Game experience built around those
restrictions. Instead of trying to take a desktop PC game and
somehow make it limp along. Because most people are not walkin
computers, this simplified gaming experience is more enjoyable
because you have less arcane commands and statistics to keep in your
head.
Dragon Bane (the first adventure) is very well coded and very
compact. It still blows me away. The Dragon Bane 2 Engine (DB2E) is
less compact, but it is designed to be more flexible. For example,
Dragon Blossom OSI contains AURAs. AURA are magic items that can be
turned on or turned off. While they are turned on, they improve an
attribute and make you glow. After using them for a while, they run
out of power and stop working. The more powerful the AURA, the
shorter it works. I do not know if the original programmers
anticipated AURAs when they were writing the program.
Note 2) As far as I can tell, Mythological Software has all the
source code for Dragon Bane 2:"Return of Kra'an" (MSRK) and Dragon
Bane 2 Adventure Construction Kit (DB2ACK). Mighty Might Software
has the source code for the Pocket PC versions of the Dragon Bane 2
Engine (DB2E). Salso Software has the source code for "Princess
Demelza" (SSPD) and "Princess Demelza II". A Hobby That Pays, Inc.
has all the source code for Grimflaed™(tm) -- and its smaller
parts
Dragon Blossom OSI, Saexgryth™(tm), etc. Because if this, it is
very
hard to anticipate or solve some kinds of problems. If you are
working with your section of source code, you may do something the
other people did not think was 1) wise or 2) possible. One of the
reasons I started working on Grimflaed™(tm) was because I
disagree
with some of the choices the programmers made in MSRK. Granted, some
may have been for RAM consideration. Grimflaed™(tm) is fairly
large,
even though it has been trimmed down some. But in the two years I
have been working on it, PDA RAM has greatly increased. I am still
blown away with Dragon Bane (the first adventure) it is very well
coded and very compact.
Note 3) After the pipes exploded, I was unable to sleep while waiting
for the plumber to call back. I am tired and cranky, but I got some
programming done today.
Note 4) See file section of DragonBaneII Yahoo!Group
Note 5) If you are using a newer color device you might not have all
four hardware buttons. Writing a Graffiti M switches to map view and
back. Writing a graffiti P switches to party view and back. Neither
of thes commands work if you are running DrgBane2_Dev.prc (the one
with all the cheats enabled) from Dragon Bane 2 Adventure
Construction Kit.
Note 6) I joined the Palm developer's group as a hobbyist. People
who own a color palm (palmone or handspring), or join the Palm
developer's group, can play Dragon Bane 2 on their desktop computer:

Hi,
I have uploaded "Demo 256 Color 1.0.zip".
It should allow all color devices running Dragon Bane 2: "Return of

map symbols").
Use at your own risk. I would backup your device before installing.
To find the file goto this group's file section*.

I have not been able to log on for a while. Did I miss the posting of the Demelza walkthrough?

Hi everyone,
There have been a few recent requests for a Demelza walkthrough (and a few from the past). At least now I know there is a demand for this out there. My walkthrough is a little different than the excellent ones put out by Larry Fluckinger for DB1 and RTK because I wrote down everything for my own reference (dialog, the fountain hints and clues, etc.) because often you could not go back and repeat them. Therefore, it probably is more complete than it should be.
I had finished my notes for the walkthrough of Demelza 1.5 back in February with a lot of comments to Simon regarding "typos", of which Simon (the creator) adopted those that would fit the spacing. That version is 1.5.1, which I am trying to go through again to verify what got changed. He was too busy to go back and correct my walkthrough directly. As
those who are going through Demelza know, it is a BIG adventure, and I don't have the kind of time I did back then to run through Demelza quickly.
I will try to post what I have next weekend - work in progress (you'll still see some my correction comments), but I do have to clean up some comments. I am on call this week, so I don't login very often. In the meantime, just post questions about Demelza. I'll try to answer the best and as quickly as I can. Simon has been very busy lately, but he is obviously the best source of information when he posts.
Thank you for your patience,
Chris Kim (Cysk)
