Yes, congratulations on finishing. I am stuck on the riddle in the Goblin King's hideout at the moment.

I don't think Caleb every learns spells, although he does have spell points. Some characters don't.

To light a torch you first have to have it in the inventory of one of your characters. Then just go to the character's inventory and select it (check the box) and it is lit. I am at the battle against Kra'an and my Level 15 Caleb does not seem
to able to cast the near foe spell leaving me out of reach of Kra'an.
Does Caleb require a higher level or more inteligence (he has a

Thanks!!

Anybody or Simon,
Have fallen through hole in floor to little room, it only has a two
sided gateway and next to gateway are two scraches on the wall, the
is suppost to give way but I can not budge it(17,15). Can some one
please help as there is no way out!
When I go through the gateway and end up in an elongated room. I land
on this square (8,25), however, I for the life of me can not figure
what that square does, if any thing. I have found the switch on the
north wall but it only opens the gatway at the far end, that only
puts me back inot the other room. Talk about circle games!
Please respond soon as I have been here for four weeks. I did go back
in saved games to make Level 13, but to no avail.
Regards,
Mike Quinn

I have solved it - I had to do the links to /opt/QtPalmtop/lib/db2/
manually. Now it works.
I need help installing Demelza on Zaurus. I copied "Prinzess
Demelza.pdb" in /mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/lib/db2/ where all other .pdb

I am using DB 1.0.5 (registered).
Thanks for your help
Actually, Yahoo has a setting to only moderate "new" members. So
we'll try that for a while -- hopefully there will continue to be no
posting delay for old members.

I recently finished ROK and thought it was a very good game, even
though it took so many (enjoyable) hours that the rest of my life
went down the tubes. It was so much fun, in fact, that my willpower
broke down and I tried the Demelza demo. After two days of play, I
decided today to buy it. That was a mistake.
No doubt you can discount the opinion of someone who only spent
three days playing the game. Obviously, I might have missed many of
the intricacies. But I feel compelled to say that Demelza has too
many flaws to make it worthwhile.
Yes, there are some good things about the game. Read the promo.
It's a big game, it has multiple solutions, it's different from ROK!
If you are totally hooked on DB2, go for it. What choice do you have?
Here are the things I don't like about it. Whereas ROK was a
tightly-constructed game, by which I mean the author seemed to have
thought of everything and paid attention to details, Demelza is good
in the big picture but lacking in fine points. For example, many of
the early (and that's all I had) battles with monsters are
completely predictable. Also, although the maps are interesting, it
is too hard to get around - there are trees everywhere getting in
your way for no good purpose. And, in spite of the new maps (which
are interesting, I admit) and optional solutions (going up or going
down), there isn't (in the first couple of days) anything really
revolutionary.
In spite of all that, I bought Demelza today after two days of
trying it out. It does have appeal. But what really fried me was a
puzzle I just did not like. ** NOTE: POSSIBLE SPOILER HERE. ** And
that was the closing of the inns. I'd been battling on, no hints,
when three of my crew were made insane. I didn't have any way to get
them Prozac or whatever, so the obvious choice was to get someone
who could cast a spell and cure them. No way. Okay, I admit, this is
probably an excellent part of the game, a clever puzzle with an
amazing solution. It wouldn't surprise me at all, because the game
has a good design. But I didn't like it, especially since I am still
aching from spending so many hours on ROK. I spent about 4 DB days
banging on the doors of inns, but they just stayed closed (which, in
a reality kind of way, doesn't make any sense). Anyway, it was so
frustrating that I decided to give up, and I deleted Demelza, ROK
(what was left of the Easter Egg level), and DB itself from my PDA.
Time to move on.
As I said, I bought Demelza today and I'm not going to play it,
ever. I think it is fair, reasonable, and legal to give it away. I
hate to see my money simply lost. So I will give my copy of the
registered version to the first (and only the first!) person who
writes to me at FreeDemelza@.... I hope you have better
success (and more patience) than I did.
Hmm, this bugged me, so I chased it down a little bit. I've never
heard or seen "beckon call" anywhere, but that doesn't mean it's
wrong. According to "Take Our Word For It" - the word origin webzine
at http://www.takeourword.com/TOW186/page4.html
From Luke McElligott:
I abhor the use of beck and call when it should be written beckon
call, as in the call was beckoning.... Please help me to put this to
rights.
TOWFI's response:
Oops, Luke, actually, the phrase is beck and call and always has
been. Beck is the same word as beckon, though, so you're on the
right track. To be at one's beck and call is to respond when he
beckons you and/or calls you. It dates from the mid-19th century.

There is a copy in these archives that takes you through most of it.
From there it is relatively simple as it follows the same philosophy
from that point on.
I just finished Demelza...and I want more!
At the old tavern in the Marsh...
"Such treachery against your king is the key to pass through here!"
Been wracking my brains for days now and it's driving me mad - Whats

Kra'an is annoying because he retreats all the time, and whenever he
does he basically gains a move. It was driving me batty until I saw
the obvious solution. My group was Unger, who wielded the DragonBane
sword, Caleb, Ensir, and Ruul. Qwinn was there, too, but I didn't
need him or use him. Unger's job, of course, was to chop Kra'an's
cohones off. Caleb's job was to cast "near foe", Ensir's was to
cast "treat party", and Ruul's was to cast "disbelieve" or "dispell"
(really not necessary) to wipe out the Greater Demons. I had two
sunfruits and gave them both to Caleb. On the opening move all three
knights cast "near foe" and Ensir used a wand of attraction. On the
next move, the basic pattern was established. Caleb casts "near
foe", regardless of where Kra'an is. Unger takes a whack. Every once
in a while Ensir casts "treat party", and Ruul takes care of the
demons with "disbelieve". I was shocked - it didn't take very long
for the big guy to get clobbered. There are only two things to
remember. 1) Make sure Caleb (or your designated "near foe" guy) has
higher dexterity than Unger (or your designated "kick Kra'an's ass"
guy), so he can bring Kra'an back before Unger chops at him. And
don't worry about wasting a "near foe" cast if Kra'an doesn't
retreat - he's going to get whacked. Heh heh.
