They add 1 point of the advertised attribute. If they were bad they'd be -1. You know, you could save, eat one, and if you don't like the result, restore... :-)

If something (like PricklyFruit) says "hit points: 1", does that mean
you are reduced to 1 hit point? I haven't tried eating one...

There's another one that says "Strength: 1". Does that mean you then
have 1 strength? Scarey. In any case, I dropped those fruits without
trying them. Now they'll turn out to be good.

(Since it said "prickly" I inferred it was bad...)

Subject: DB2ACK: Building Blocks or "Dungeon Tiles"
neftf
Offline Offline
Send Email Send Email

Dana [original post at end],

I borrowed the name "dungeon tile" from a game called DungeonQuest.

To create a "dungeon tile", just use the MAPEDITOR.EXE and create
a .MAP file. a .MAP file is a single level like "New
Treleon", "Cellar 1" or "Sewer 1". Since Mythological Software
included everything in DB2ACK except the maps, the hardest part of
creating a new adventure is creating .MAP files from scratch. A .MAP
file can be just the floorplan/ walls of the map. I have posted
several floorplans to the file section. Just go to Files>DB2ACK .MAP
files> Dungeon Tiles> Neftf. A .MAP file can also include traps,
stationary monsters, treasure and/ or puzzles & clues. It does not
need these things however. It can also be part of a floorplan, like
the seed maps I have posted, and not a complete floorplan.

The idea is people can take various premade .MAP files or "dungeon
tiles" and put them together like tinkertoys or LEGOs. A lot of the
adventures put together in this fashion won't be pretty, but look at
the LEGOs or building block kits that build a X-wing or the Statue of
Liberty out of little square pieces.

If someone posts a .MAP file containing just the floorplan/ walls of
a corrupt paladin's fort, someone can later add traps, stationary
monsters, treasure and/ or puzzles & clues. People have an easier
time modifying an existing map/ dungeon/ adventure/ etc. than
creating one from scratch. Table top role-playing games have books
of generic floorplans, traps, stationary monsters, treasure and
puzzles & clues. They also have books of premade adventures. You
could take the floorplan of a burrowing giant creature lair, add some
primitive deadfall traps from another book, add wererats and their
king from a third book, add some rings and potions from a fourth
book. Maybe a collapsed and flooded mine tunnel from "Collapse of
Silver Elf Mine" with digging tools in one room and ring of water
breathing in another room. Presto, you have an adventure ready to go
with nothing original in it. You just combined ideas from
various "generic idea" books or "premade dungeons".

If you include new traps, stationary monsters, treasure and/ or
puzzles & clues, in your "dungeon tile", people can use them without
using the whole "dungeon tile". When someone is putting together
an .MAP file, they can take a combination puzzle from "Return of
Kra'an" with a new combination, a "Strike Specho" monster from one of
my "dungeon tiles", a "cursed axe" from Peter's, and a "water filling
room trap" from Bob's and presto, they have a new "dungeon tile".
Put together enough new "dungeon tiles" and you have an adventure.

I am currently working on a project with new maps, traps, monsters,
treasure, puzzles, spells, elementals, classes, etc. If I don't
finish it, I will post the pieces here so people can use them. If I
do finish it, I will eventually post most of my list files- spells,
elementals, objects, classes- and a few of the "dungeon tiles"
including traps, stationary monsters, treasure and/ or puzzle &
clues, to this forum.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

Yeah, it's a clue... as is try, try again, if you see nothing happening

Dear sir_carlis,

If you have not played Dragon Bane 1 (DB1), that is also a good
game. With different maps, quests and puzzles.

Have you considered creating a new adventure Dragon Bane adventure
yourself ? DB2ACK is very easy to use. If you have trouble with it,
the Forum here and Mythological Software are both very good at
helping with your questions.

Or you could design a single level or "Dungeon Tile" and post it to
the file section here. People can then take prebuilt tiles from the
file section, modify them slightly, and create a new adventures in
the fraction of the time it takes to start from scratch. "Return of
Kra'an" consists of 29 maps, a lot of programming. If every one on
this forum- 259 - built a single level, that would allow 9 new
adventures with all unique levels. Or you could assemble the 259
Dungeon Tiles in different orders and have as many as... oh well, my
calculator doesn't go that high (it returns 9.9999999999 x 10 to the
99th power). By changing, blending and stamping "Dungeon Tiles"
designers could build infinite new adventures quicker. Several
popular role playing systems take this approach and publish blank
maps, or mini-dungeons which people can change as they see fit.

If you do decide to use DB2ACK, I recommend going to palmos.com and
downloading POSE so you can play/ debug your adventure in color. I
played DB2:MSRK in black & white first, then in color. Color was
almost like playing a different adventure.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

BTW, I no longer use NEAR FOE+ or BESERK+ against KRA'AN. ADVANCE is
perfectly good since the only character that can damage KRA'AN is

moves right along.

Hope that helped

I didn't do a walkthrough for the easter egg level because I didn't want to give everything away. If I remember right, there aren't many surprises there, just the two tough battles. You may need to be stronger for this level than you were for Kra'an. If you keep dying, spend more time in Kra'an 2 until you gain a level or two, then try it again.

Dear Forum,

If you are coding for MAPEDIT.EXE (creating maps or .MAP files using
DB2ACK). When the code is running, if the party steps onto square A
(XA, YA, MA) and the MOTION SCRIPT includes a MAP EXIT to square B
(XB, YB, MB), when the party position pointer moves to square B, it
does not execute the MOTION SCRIPT for square B. Dragon Bane 2
(DB2E) only executes the MOTION SCRIPT for square B if the party
attempts to enter square B (I discovered this when I teleported the
party into a building with the blocking bit on).

But when the code first starts, the party starts on square C (XC, YC,
0). Gabe said that DB2E will run the MOTION SCRIPT for square C when
the game first starts. So if you put a text message instruction in
the starting square, it will always create an intro screen. You can
also put other instructions, such as GIVE GOLD if you want the party
to start out with money.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

"Return of Kra'an" (MSRK) has items that start the game as
unidentified, such as the KAELAN'S SCEPTRE* (with 9 charges). When
you find a KAELAN'S SCEPTRE* (with 9 charges), it shows up in your
inventory as UNIDENTIFIED ITEM and if you examine it you get to see a
picture of it. Until you identify the KAELAN'S SCEPTRE* (with 9
charges), every KAELAN'S SCEPTRE* (with 9 charges) you find in the
game is an UNIDENTIFIED ITEM. However, once you identify a KAELAN'S
SCEPTRE* (with 9 charges), every KAELAN'S SCEPTRE* (with 9 charges)
you find in the game shows up in your inventory as KAELAN'S
SCEPTRE*. So the identification fee is a one time fee, sort of like
registering Dragon Bane 2 (DB2E) lets you start the game over as many
times as you want, with as many different parties, once you pay one
registration fee.

Note: KAELAN'S SCEPTERE comes in several versions, one of which has 9
charges.

Hint: MYSTIC MYRTHL'S identifies potions, rings and necklaces
cheaper than SHOPPEs will.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

I wrote it because I got annoyed that identifying good items cost the
same as the money to be made by selling them.

I have no plans to extend it to allow futher cheating by altering
character stats or items held.

You can pick it up from
