Dear Jason or Gabe
What is the formula used to determine that a party is too high level,
and a monster/ all monsters in the .MAP file will avoid the party?
Thank you for your time and help in this matter
Sincerely yours,
NEFTF
Once you have the figurine, go talk to the king. He tells you about Helix and gives you rough directions to find him west of NT.
Spoiler...
You enter Helix's forest in the Wilderness at (43,22). Explore the whole area. You have to walk though a bush to find his hut. If you explore some of this area and then leave without finding Helix, Jasper will appear and lead you to him.

I have installed Dragon Bane 2 in my palm memory card. When it run without using silver screen, it can run normally however when I run under silverscreen, it mention that the "Return of Kra'an" is lost. I am sure I had enough memory to run this program in my handheld.
Can anybody help me to solve this problem. Thanks.

Have you been down to the second level of the cellar in town?
If you're stuck on the first level, not all locked doors use keys - some you
have to do other things to open (like press switches & run like crazy).
Cellar 1 has three keys. If you only found one, then there's a lot more for you to discover on that level. Are you sure you have explored every hallway on the level? There are enough puzzles in Cellar 1 to keep you busy for several hours before you finally get to Cellar 2. After you solve Cellar 2, go back and talk to the king.
If you need more help, you can ask specific questions here or find the walkthrough in the forum.

Hi,
I think it depends on the level of your spell casting characters. The Mage
shop would reflect this. The items at the shop are random and are changed
daily I think. I don't know the level of your characters - they may be too
weak or too strong. Another way I think is to earn them killing monsters of
a certain level.
Kra'an is immune to magic spells (at least those of attack). Thus, shadow of
death won't work. You can only inflict spell points using DragonBane. You
can use Near Foe and Beserk on him (though his guardians usually cast soul
shadow to negate this pretty quickly).
Cheers,
Chris

Dear trade1964,
You can also tap the screen with your stylus to play Dragon Bane 2:
Return of Kra'an (DB2:MSRK) instead of using the buttons. For
example tapping anywere on the center of the bottom 1/4 of the screen
causes you to move backward.
Old keyboards used to wear out more frequently if you hammered on the
keys. Try using a lighter touch on the PDA buttons. They are
sensitive enough that little pressure is needed. Also try and go
slower, people are more prone to hammering on buttons and keys when
they are rushing. Unlike an arcade game, there is no time limit on
DB2:MSRK. Mostly the game pad is designed for arcade games where you
hammer the keys. I too was worried about this originally, but have
had no problem with my buttons playing DB2:MSRK.
I believe Craig has played some very long games of DB2:MSRK, for
example solo thief to 26th level. So the buttons are probably okay
as long as you stick to non-arcade games.
You can download POSE and play DB2:MSRK on your PC (see below links)
Sincerely yours,
NEFTF
Digression: My biggest problem was I twice ran the battery down too
low to recharge. Once I played for a two days straight and ran the
battery from full to empty. I had to recondition the battery on my
m500. Try and keep a rechargable PDA at least 1/2 charged or better
if playing DB2:MSRK because it puts a high density drain on the
battery.
I like playing DB2:MSRK on my PC because I don't have to worry about
battery or buttons. I also signed up as a hobbyist - I am designing
a DB2 adventure- so I can play it in color even though my PDA is not
color.

Dear Dana,
The Palm OS Emulator (POSE) is designed for developing Palm programs,
I originally heard of it from the book __Palm Pilot: The Ultimate
Guide. 2nd Edition_ Author David Pogue, Published by O'Reilly (they
include a copy on the book's CD-ROM). However it can be used to run
Palm programs on your desktop computer, especially if you keep
wearing out the keys of your PDA playing Dragon Bane 1 & 2.
There are three levels to POSE. The first and easiest is to transfer
your PDA to your computer. To do so use the below link POSE
DOWNLOAD. Unzip the download and follow the directions to set up
POSE on your computer. You will use your PDA as the template, so it
will be identical. I wanted to play DB2 in color, but I have a Palm
m500 and a Palm V- both Black & White- so I continued onward.
The second level, Palm Developer Outside USA, can add color outside
the USA. Since I am inside the USA I skipped to the third level.
The third level is to sign up for Palm Developer Inside USA. Use the
below link JOIN DEVELOPER PROGRAM. At the required line "*What best
describes your role in the Palm Economy?" I entered HOBBYIST.
For "What additional roles do you or your company focus on, if any?
(This information is optional)" I answered SHAREWARE DEVELOPER. I
applied for the Basic Membership (Free). Since the form wasn't
clear, under both "*Company" and "*Title" I entered INDEPENDENT
DEVELOPER (HOBBYIST). For "*What tools are you using to develop on
this platform? (check all that apply)" I selected Other and entered
DRAGON BANE 2 ADVENTURE CONSTRUCTION KIT, since I am creating a new
adventure for Dragon Bane 2. Once my application was accepted, I
downloaded the Palm m505 file at the below link PALM M505 DOWNLOAD.
Since I was in the USA, I agreed to the export limits and then I
selected the Palm OS 4.1 download and followed the directions to set
up POSE as a m505.
I move the current game-Drg2SaveMSRK.PDB or Drg2SaveTMHA.PDB- to my
PDA when I'm leaving home for a while, and move it back to my desktop
computer when I want to play it in color. Currently I am
replaying "Return of Kra'an" to get a feel for proper treasure
placement. <grin> It will take me forever to find all 9 sunfruits
again.
For the second level if you are outside the USA, you can use the PALM
IIIC DOWNLOAD below. Download Palm 3.5 ROM Type.
I hope that helps. If you have any questions you can post here, or
talk to Palm.com.
Sincerely yours,
Nuke 'em from 20'

I actually broke the buttons playing Dragon Bane on my old Palm Vx. Since it was less than a year old, it was covered under warranty and Palm replaced it for free. Unless you got the first M505, yours is probably covered in the same fashion.

1) Yes, as was said earlier, when something gets stolen from you, the thief will almost undoubtedly not have it when/if you kill him. The real reason is that the game was not designed to handle storing whatever you had stolen until you kill the thief to retrieve it. (Especially since it can happen multiple times in a single battle.) So, if you like, and if it makes it easier, use whatever "explanation" you like. Perhaps during the battle some of the booty gets dropped or if it's an item gets damaged. Fortunately none of the thieves can steal any of the "keys" (real or figurative) which would keep you from finishing the game.
2) I actually have won the game with a single, lone thief. This was right at the end of the playtest. You are thinking of progressing WAY too quickly if you are playing solo. I believe my thief was 9th level before going into the first dungeon (the tavern). And when he beat Kra'an it was at 26th level. He did not need to use the Wand of Rest he was carrying during the rather long battle. And yes I "cheated" by having Call Grizzly cast for him in town and getting him healed by the characters in town.
I have 2 unrelated general questions: 1) there's a monster called a crypt stealer ( i think) who will steal about 100 gold pieces from my party yet when he gets killed the party only recovers about 90 gold pieces. what's up with that? how come i don't get all of the original 100 gold pieces back?
2) there's been mention of playing DB2 w/ just one player. how is that possible? in just beating Lord Kr'All and his 3 dark knights it took almost EVERTHING i had from my party of 5 characters (all at Level 10 experience) to fend them off, I can't even imagine just one character doing it all alone.
Thanks, Ray

This was an interesting question raised in beta testing. It was the
designers' feeling that there should be some penalty in encountering the
monsters - call it a tax. Yes, I know in "real life" all the money or more
should be on the crypt stealer's body.

I can't address this question, but there was a brief discussion about this
about a month ago. With the original DB, it was possible to do this with one
character. However, in DB2, because of the decision to limit gold pieces per
monster, harder monsters, etc, it is very difficult if not impossible to do.
What some people have suggested is using elementals via wands or the cast of
extra high level characters you encounter in Stonefield Castle to cast
elementals for you. You can also use these extra characters to use heal
spells on you when you stop by. If you have a thief, you can cast Alchemy
and Materialize to create gold for healing. However, unless you find a wand
of ??? (the one that makes portals)you are almost limited to Poe, Mordor,
or whomever can cast Open Portal/Gateway. However, I think it is doable
without this, but you will have to do a lot of running back and forth from
far away places back to New Treleon to charge up.

Dear Larry and Craig,
Normally I don't see any use for playing less than 5 characters. But
while I am waiting for new adventures to come out, I thought I would
try solo adventuring because the solo character gets all the cool
potions/ fruits that give bonuses. A solo character also gets 5
times the experience for killing a monster as a full party so
advancement is much quicker.
I agree with you both, that a solo non-fighter is incredibly
difficult in Dragon Bane 2: "Return of Kra'an" (DB2:MSRK).
Theoretically possible, but not worth the time and effort. I lean
toward THIEF or DWARF since they get BELLIGERENCE.
I am playing my first solo adventure. Currently I have a 6th level
DWARF- innate MAGIC COMPASS. Money is much tighter. I have been
healing/ getting money by adding POE- TREAT PLAYER-, HERIC- ALCHEMY-
and MORDOR- WIZ WALL (or ENSIR- GRIZZLY)- to my party and running
around in the sun. When I am done, I return them to the inn. If I
ever get to STONEFIELD CASTLE it will be nice, HERIC- ALCHEMY,
OPHELIA- MATERIALZIE, CELEX- RESTORE ALL HEALTH and RUUL- BIND
SHOELAN.
Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

The lack of money means that you have to have a magic user in order
to heal.

You're right, it is no fun. Three characters or maybe 2 is much more feasible.
I agree that Gabe and Jason made it very difficult to use the non-fighters singly when they insisted on making the dragon bane hit at less than 100%. But it was their choice and it is their game. I suspect they felt others would soon create their own games for public use and being able to play DBII with only 1 character was less necessary than it was during the multi-year time span between DB1 and DBII.
On the other hand as a play tester, you probably played through the game many times already anyway.
I have to admit I had fun playing through with different character types. Since you cannot have them all in your party, it's sort of different and fun to play with two parties that are almost completely different. I admit I have stopped playing, something I didn't do with DB1.
I do like the game. And I appreciate that Gabe and Jason made it for us. Also I'm glad you helped playtest it.
OK, what I want to know is: Is anyone having fun playing with just one party member? I've tried it with a few different characters now, and it just isn't working for me. I won DB1 with every member one-at-a-time and had fun doing it. I think I was the guy that started the one-player party idea, but in DB2 it is just a lot of work.
I think the difference is that in DB1 each player could find enough items, potions, and fruit to overcome his character's weaknesses and still be a force to be reckoned with. In DB2, the characters can't ever overcome their weaknesses. Also, money is a lot tighter in DB2.
For example, the accuracy percentage makes non-fighters hard to work with. Even if you can get Poe to Kra'an, his accuracy of 10% with the DragonBane would seem to make it virtually impossible to beat the dragon. Also, in DB1 it was possible for a single character to earn enough money to heal occasionally at the temple, but in DB2, if you don't have a thief, you can never earn enough cash to heal, or even identify all items. The lack of money means that you have to have a magic user in order to heal. This means the minimum functional party must have a healer, thief, and probably a knight.
I've enjoyed playing with parties of three, but I think I'll stick with full parties from now on. I still think DB2 is a great game, it's just different from DB1. Has anyone found a good alternative way to play DB2, other than with single-player parties?

The first time I played Dragone Bane 2: "Return of Kra'an"
(DB2:MSRK), one of my original complaints was the found character
levels were too low. When UNGER joined, my party was 8th level.
When I found STONEFIELD CASTLE, my party was 16th level. When I
first fought KRA'AN I had an 18th level party with a 14th level back
up thief. Only later did I find out I was dramatically over prepared
for each map level. But since I had searched every map square of
every map level, it was worth it. I found lots of hidden treasure,
without the "reusable MAGIC MAP #1" cheat, and got every last drop of
enjoyment out of my $27.
On the second time through, if you like being over prepared, TALON
CLOISTER, SEWER 1, PRISON 2-3, GOBLIN PALACE, CRYPT 2-3, and TOWER 1-
4 are good places to get experience since you can find large groups
of monsters there. In my opinion, on your second time through, the
faster you get to the next map level, the faster your party will
advance in levels. New map levels mean new monsters worth more
experience points per monster. Since you already know where all the
treasure is, you don't need to search every map square to find it.
Doing research for my own adventure, I deliberately blew through
DB2:MSRK to write down all the treasure. Sometimes I had to fight
a "Boss Monster" twice, but one of the advantages to following the
walk-through is you can skip TOWER 1-4, go directly to the STONEFIELD
CASTLE, and get free experience. All the characters in STONEFIELD
CASTLE had twice the experience of my walk-through characters (who
only had 82,327 experience). I switched to the higher level
characters, then went back and cleaned out all the treasure in TOWER
1-4, getting lots of experience from all the GIANT COBRAS and LIZARD
WARRIORS. Also the more monsters you defeat in an encounter, the
better chances for found items when you loot the bodies, so I found
lots of loot after fighting 4 GIANT COBRAS or 6 LIZARD WARRIORS.
I then used RUN against most of the 1-2 unit groups in RAAMTHA'S
DUNGEON and KRA'AN'S LAIR 1-2 since they offer so little experience
for so much effort. The 2 GUARDIANS are dramatically under valued in
experience points for the amount of havoc they wreak on your party.
Better to just RUN.
During my treasure dash-through, I was able to beat KRA'AN with 15th
level characters and one 11th level THIEF.
Yes, I know, It should have been a 12th level THIEF with 82,327
experience points, but I forgot to promote him after I switched to
the 14th level characters in STONEFIELD CASTLE.
Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

Dear Mark,
Mythological Software has put together a balanced adventure were a
wide variety of classes and levels can enjoy success against
individual map levels and "Boss Monsters".
There are two main strategies to getting experience. In the
WILDERNESS, GIANT ANTS appear in groups of up to 5 units. The more
monsters you fight at one time, the more experience points you get
per spellpoint you spend in ATTACK_GROUP and ATTACK_ALL spells.
However, the sooner you enter a new map level, the sooner you fight
higher level monsters that are worth more experience points. Either
strategy works in the game.
I have always favorited the "search every map square" approach to
Dragon Bane 1 (DB1) and Dragon Bane 2: "Return of Kra'an" (DB2:MSRK)
since the treasure chests usually have better items than the random
items on dead monsters. While hidden treasure chests often have
better items than treasure chests out in the open were anyone can
find them. It also means I get every last drop of enjoyment out of
my $27.
The first time I played DB2:MSRK I explored the entire WILDERNESS-
were you can recharge- looking for SUNFRUIT before going into CELLAR
1, so I had access to LEVEL 2 spells like CALL GHOST OF KAELAN in
CELLAR 1.
Pick whichever strategy you like playing.
Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

When I fought the prince, I used Archer, Knight, Dwarf, Sorcerer,
Wizard. I was around level 10 or 11, however. My strategy has
always been to be as "overprepared" for battle as possible. A lot of
times I'll go into a place, kill as many people as I can without
taking the booty or the prize............teleport back, regenerate
spell points by jogging, then go back 4 and 5 times collecting
experience. I have just begun the journey through Kra'an's Lair, and
My team is at level 16. For now, I go back and fight and will
continue to do so until I reach level 18. Only at that level will I
face Kra'an. It takes longer to to it this way because of all the
regenerations, but the more experience I accumulate, the more damage
I do and the more accurate I am.
This strategy is important, even in a modified fashion if you are
following the walk-through. The walk-through can get you past the
different adventures quickly, at the expense of experience
points....because there is not as much exploring and fighting if you
follow the walk-through to the letter.
Just a suggestion.....I could be wrong.
