Dear A_Akes,

Spoiler

Spoiler

Spoiler

Sweet

Sweet

I once had a party of a dwarf, archer, thief, sorcerer and
necromancer, all 8th level against the DRAGON PRINCE. My strategy
was as follows

Before stepping into room, if not already in effect, cast CALL GHOST
OF KAELAN, AURA OF FORTUNE and SAVING THROW

1st Strategies, Individual
Dwarf
SABRE OF SPEED+* against EAGLEMAN WARRIORS until 1 left
Archer
GREAT CROSSBOW against DRAGON PRINCE
Thief
SHORT BOW against DRAGON PRINCE until HEART OF QUICKNESS.
Sorcerer
HORN OF FREEZING until 2 EAGLEMAN WARRIORS left
interrupting HORN OF FREEZING to cast TREAT PARTY (15 points, two
characters down 20 points or more).
Necromancer
FIRESTAFF against EAGLEMAN WARRIORS until 1 left

2nd Strategies, Individual
Dwarf
Cast HEART OF COURAGE on Dwarf so he can use LONG SWORD then HEART OF
QUICKNESS on Thief so he can use FIREBOW*
LONGSWORD against DRAGON PRINCE
Archer
GREAT CROSSBOW against DRAGON PRINCE
Thief
FIREBOW* against DRAGON PRINCE
Sorcerer
RESIST FIRE on Sorcerer, Necromancer, Archer, Thief, then Dwarf.
interrupting RESIST FIRE to cast TREAT PARTY (15 points, two
characters down 15 points or more) or TREAT PLAYER (10 points, only
if all players are at full health except one character who is about
to die)
Necromancer
DISBELIEVE against any ELEMENTAL, if more than one ELEMENTAL, cast on
second, fresher, ELEMENTAL.

2nd Strategies, General
If DRAGON PRINCE 10 feet away, attack with LONGSWORD, FIREBOW* and
GREAT CROSSBOW.

If DRAGON PRINCE by himself and more than 10 feet away, ADVANCE. Not
enough spellpoints to make NEAR FOE+ worthwhile. Dwarf can do lots
of damage with LONG SWORD (Note: knight should not need HEART OF
COURAGE to use LONG SWORD).

If DRAGON PRINCE more than 10 feet away and ELEMENTAL(s) present,
attack ELEMENTAL with LONG SWORD and DISBELIEVE. If more than one
ELEMENTAL, attack first ELEMENTAL with LONG SWORD, while casting
DISBELIEVE on second, fresher, ELEMENTAL.

If KAELEN dies and party not advancing, recast him.

I hope that helped. Other strategies will work, but without knowing
what equipment and statistics you have, I cannot be more specific.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

Thanks, I thought I had. I met the Wizard in the wild, but did
not "get" Unger as I didn't have room in the Party. Does that
matter, or did I maybe miss something in the Cellar. Thanks for your
help, though. I'll check out the cellar again and go back
and "release" Unger if need be--Rick

I've beaten the dragon prince with a dwarf, necro, troglodite, thief, and
wizard. :) You just have to have sunfruits and it would help if you had
your necromancer cast treat player or a spell to recover spell points or
hit points. And if you have a thief, near foe helps a lot!

You need to have solved the previous level before Thsspok will help. To do
that, you have to solve the cellar completely and have found the wizard in the
wild to get another team member.

Dear Bullet318,

If you have not played Dragon Bane 1 (DB1), that is also a good game.

Many people find replaying Dragon Bane 2:"Return of Kra'an"
(DB2:MSRK) with a single party member, instead of five party members,
to be fun.

There are also other role-playing games out there for the Palm OS.

Have you considered creating a new Dragon Bane adventure yourself?
DB2ACK is very easy to use. If you have trouble with it, the Forum
here and Mythological Software are both very good at helping with
your questions.

Or you could get together with a group of people here and create an
adventure. Some people are better at art, others at puzzles, others
at game mechanics, by working as a group, the end result is often
better than working alone.

Or you could design a single level or "Dungeon Tile" and post it to
the file section here. People can then take prebuilt tiles from the
file section, modify them slightly, and create a new adventures in
the fraction of the time it takes to start from scratch. "Return of
Kra'an" consists of 29 maps, a lot of programming. I myself was
hoping Mythological Software would release the original 29 maps, but
understand the many reasons such a move would be silly. If every one
on this forum- 238- built a single level, that would allow 8 new
adventures with all unique levels. Or you could assemble the 238
Dungeon Tiles in different orders and have as many as... oh well, my
calculator doesn't go that high (it returns 9.9999999999 x 10 to the
99th power). By changing, blending and stamping "Dungeon Tiles"
designers could build infinite new adventures quicker. Several
popular role playing systems take this approach and publish blank
maps, or mini-dungeons which people can change as they see fit.

If you do decide to use DB2ACK I recommend going to palmos.com and
downloading POSE so you can play/ debug your adventure in color. I
played DB2:MSRK in black & white first, then in color. Color was
almost like playing a different adventure.

If none of the above apeals to you, simply hang in there. Three
years after DB1, Mythological Software- previously Palm Creations-
advertised on the Dragon Bane Forum for DB2:MSRK playtesters, so I'm
sure when someone gets an adventure ready for playtesting, they will
request playtesters from the Dragon Bane Forums on Yahoo Groups.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

Just wanted to add that there is a solution LapTopHack that you can
buy for the treo that will work around this (see post in dragon-bane
Yahoo forum).

Also, we have a fix that will go into 1.0.3 whenever that is. But
if you are a treo user and want it before then, email us.

Poe can cast cure poison when he's at level 5. Also, the cipper squash fruit does it.

Outside of NT, you can find the mage mart in Arbor Crest, and when you get to the castle you will find more shops.

1.  Is there any way to cure poison apart from going back to the
temple, or having a staff of serpents?  My necromancer is not yet at
level 4 spells either.

2.  Also, I am at the Lord's Lair level, and am trying to remember
other shoppes apart from NT.  I can't get any good magic stuff there.

Any thoughts on these points would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

According to the Walk-Through, we are supposed to take the knock-

actually "NE"

I would like to thank Larry for such a fine walkthrough, and this

It's kind of goofy the way it works, but it's based on elemental's
level and strength only.

if (c->class == class_elemental) {
     tempDamage = MAX(1,(NORM(c->strength)-22)) * c->level/2;
}

/* Give damage from damage/2 to damage */
damage = RandomShort(tempDamage >> 1, tempDamage) + 1;

Where NORM forces its value to be between 1..99

Dear Dana,

That has to be the deadliest 4 character party. The DWARF cast HEART
OF COURAGE so he can use borderline hand weapons, and MARK OF THE
NIMBLE so the TROGLODYTE can use borderline range weapons, the WIZARD
can cast strong attack, attack group and attack all spells, the
NECROMANCER can cast MANA SPIRIT and LIFE VORTEX on groups of
monsters for mana recharging. You have all the elementals, so you
can pick the best for the task: for individual monster encounters-
and BELLIGERENCE- you have GRIZZLY, KAELAN, IQTAR and SHEOLAN. For
healing WIND MAGE can cast TREAT PLAYER, TREAT PARTY, and REGENERATE
PLAYER, for group attack WIND MAGE can cast STONES or FIRE ELEMENTAL
can cast CONFUSE, for attack all the FIRE ELEMENTAL can cast FLAME
ARC.

Have fun.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

Oooo... thanks for the tip. :) I've got a party where I have a Necromancer,
a dwarf, a wizard and a troglodite. :)

It seems combat is easier this time around.

Dear Dana,

<grin> I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy. I hate two kinds of
traps- steal items and lose map. I use revelation and if I detect a
trap I first save the game then trigger the trap. Most traps are one
shot and then you don't have to worry about it. If it is a steal
item or lose map, I then try levitation to get over it.

I'm told parties of one are for people with a lot of time on their
hands. Right now I'm working with DB2ACK, so I don't have that kind
of time. One day I want to try it, because it will simplify the game
and sounds fun.

In the past, I have only used BELLIGERENCE against boss creatures. I
usually use spell weapons like bows & wands or group attack weapons
like KAELAN'S MACE+*, none of which BELLIGERENCE works on. The FIRE
ELEMENTAL can cast FLAME ARC- attack all- and CONFUSE- stop a group
of monsters- which can dramatically shorten combat in the TOWER
levels.

It looks like the SHEOLAN would be handy in KRA'AN'S LAIR since they
have a base damage of 306 per attack to the FIRE ELEMENTAL'S base
damage of 126. Most of the annoying creatures in that level are
groups of 1 or 2 monsters.

Thanks! Okay, so how do you do this with only ONE person??? Especially one
that can't cast Open Portal? I use Open Portal a LOT! *grin*

Okay, it's not my imagination that the sunfruit girl only shows up ONCE a
weekend, right? If you buy from her on Saturday she doesn't show up on
Sunday, right? Sucks, I could have used more sunfruits, but maybe it would
have made the game too easy. *grin*

I've never used revelation. *grin*

Hmm... okay, I like Shoelan, especially if you cast Belligerence on the
group. *grin*

Wow. Not up to that yet. I'll try with a troglodite and a dwarf. :)

Dear Hank_5,

The only spells HERIC gets but GYKRO doesn't are:
PICK LOCK/ TRAP ZAP- just open chest and take the damage
ALCHEMY/ MATERIALIZE- handy but not essential
CONFUSE/ BESERK- not needed in solo adventuring
INVISIBILITY- GYKRO gets heavier armor faster and more HITPOINTS then
HERIC
NEAR FOE- just ADVANCE in solo adventuring
FAR FOE- not needed in solo adventuring

GYKRO has:
Innate MAGIC COMPASS- great against monsters that zap your
MAGIC COMPASS
HEART OF COURAGE/ MARK OF THE VALIANT- not only does more
damage with single attack weapons like a HATCHET, but lets you carry
a borderline weapon. If you have a STRENGTH 25 you would have to
wait two more levels to use a KAELAN'S MACE+*, but GYKRO can carry an
equipped HATCHET normally and for group combats an unequipped
KAELAN'S MACE+*, use 2 SPELLPOINTS, cast HEART OF COURAGE, and then
use KAELAN'S MACE+* for the rest of combat against those 5 GIANT ANTS.
Better weapons- higher STRENTGH can use deadlier hand weapons
faster. Hand weapons tend to do more damage than range weapons.
Better armor- higher STRENTGH can use heavier armor faster,
lower AC means less monsters can hit.
        Better HITPOINTS

But HERIC would be fun to use also.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

Dear Hank_5,

I never thought of using Heric, that is a good idea. He can cast
MAGIC COMPASS, INVISIBILITY, and BELLIGERENCE, is decent with both
sword and bows, gets bonus gold and items from lotting monsters, and
has a decent amount of HITPOINTS.

I'll have to try that after I use GYRKO.

Sincerely yours,
NEFTF

Good Job D!

Nef'- I thought about Gyrko for a solo quest, but as he can't cast
levitation to get over the traps can he? I stuck with Heric on my
Solo Quest (see my earlier e-mail) and made a lot of trips back to NT
to heal.
