You have to go push on the wall in the dungeon first, and it will say something like “You feel the wall move but are not strong enough or some such thing”

I did.  I waited through TWO different weekends and still no Max.  That's why I'm stuck.

I need Stongman Max to join my party so I can get the soli key, but
every time I go to his tent I get a sign which says "the strongman
exhibit is not here this week." 

I have spent two weeks (DBII) time wandering around the wilderness
simply to get the clock to move and still no strongman.

Am I doing something wrong or do I have to wander some more before Max
finally shows up?
