Fixed??? (or Pocket PC Problems)

Hi Eric,

It depends. Dragon Bane 2 is a really cool PDA game (Note 1). The
source code it is not all under one roof (Note 2). I was able to
work on the problem some more (Note 3) and think I may have fixed
it. If you would like to try the fix, that would be cool (Note 4).
In fact, other people might want to try the fix. It will definitely
work on color Palm OS (Note 5). In color, the map symbols are cool,
though they are designed to work with 4 shade grayscale just as well.

I cannot stress this enough, if you are trying this on a PDA (Note
6), backup your PDA before running Dragon Blossom OSI.

Note 1) The Dragon Bane series takes the limitations of a PDA - small
screen size, short battery life, no keyboard, no CD-ROM manual - and
creates a Role-Playing Game experience built around those
restrictions. Instead of trying to take a desktop PC game and
somehow make it limp along. Because most people are not walkin
computers, this simplified gaming experience is more enjoyable
because you have less arcane commands and statistics to keep in your
head.

Dragon Bane (the first adventure) is very well coded and very
compact. It still blows me away. The Dragon Bane 2 Engine (DB2E) is
less compact, but it is designed to be more flexible. For example,
Dragon Blossom OSI contains AURAs. AURA are magic items that can be
turned on or turned off. While they are turned on, they improve an
attribute and make you glow. After using them for a while, they run
out of power and stop working. The more powerful the AURA, the
shorter it works. I do not know if the original programmers
anticipated AURAs when they were writing the program.

Note 2) As far as I can tell, Mythological Software has all the
source code for Dragon Bane 2:"Return of Kra'an" (MSRK) and Dragon
Bane 2 Adventure Construction Kit (DB2ACK). Mighty Might Software
has the source code for the Pocket PC versions of the Dragon Bane 2
Engine (DB2E). Salso Software has the source code for "Princess
Demelza" (SSPD) and "Princess Demelza II". A Hobby That Pays, Inc.
has all the source code for Grimflaed™(tm) -- and its smaller
parts
Dragon Blossom OSI, Saexgryth™(tm), etc. Because if this, it is
very
hard to anticipate or solve some kinds of problems. If you are
working with your section of source code, you may do something the
other people did not think was 1) wise or 2) possible. One of the
reasons I started working on Grimflaed™(tm) was because I
disagree
with some of the choices the programmers made in MSRK. Granted, some
may have been for RAM consideration. Grimflaed™(tm) is fairly
large,
even though it has been trimmed down some. But in the two years I
have been working on it, PDA RAM has greatly increased. I am still
blown away with Dragon Bane (the first adventure) it is very well
coded and very compact.

Note 3) After the pipes exploded, I was unable to sleep while waiting
for the plumber to call back. I am tired and cranky, but I got some
programming done today.

Note 4) See file section of DragonBaneII Yahoo!Group

Note 5) If you are using a newer color device you might not have all
four hardware buttons. Writing a Graffiti M switches to map view and
back. Writing a graffiti P switches to party view and back. Neither
of thes commands work if you are running DrgBane2_Dev.prc (the one
with all the cheats enabled) from Dragon Bane 2 Adventure
Construction Kit.

Note 6) I joined the Palm developer's group as a hobbyist. People
who own a color palm (palmone or handspring), or join the Palm
developer's group, can play Dragon Bane 2 on their desktop computer:
