Hi Carl,
I have never used the hex editor. I am not an employee of
Mythological Software.
The WINDMAGE is stored as a character in your party and in the loaded
HERO.TXT file. As your characters progress they change, but the
HERO.TXT file does not. When you cast a spell and summon an
elemental, it references the HERO.TXT file. DB2ACK designers should
remember that if you need to send out adventure updates, the HERO.TXT
file is only loaded once. If you change the characters, your players
will have to delete the saved game for the changes to take place.
I do not know how Shadow92 did other things. I suspect the 'light
lite full armor and invisibility cloak' is a set of armor he created
that requires Strength 0 to wear, provides Light +4, and a very,
very, very low Armor Class making it unlikely for a monster to hit
you. I do not know how to make a character 'invisible'. But with a
low enough Armor Class the monsters will only hit 5% of the time.
You could make your character invisible to monster - but not traps -
by giving them a very high value for ignoring monster damage. A
Thief ignores 1 point of monster damage per attack. If you made it
very high, most monsters would do zero damage per attack. He could
also be referring to Stealth spell which prevents random monsters
from finding you. For debugging my .MAP files I have a crystal with
unlimited Stealth spells.
I do not know how he is accessing the unused characters in HERO.TXT.
The saved file should have a map coordinate. He probably discovered
the unfinished level by setting the coordinate to x=1, y=1, map=
unfinished map

(And there are two characters you can't play with without useing my
method. And a second easter egg level[that's not completed].)
