I found your character editor post VERY helpful, and have already
made some changes.
There are, however, many things I can't figure out:
1 - I can't find the "gold" - either in hex or ascii
2 - some of my items are usefull, but I can't QUITE find them. I
wanted to change the number of charges but, even though I changed
them in the file (the one place I found it) it was not reflected in
the game
3 - Same for the WindMage - I changed his hitpoint which, although it
WAS reflected, was not honored the next time I cast the spell to
create him. Do you know how I can do this?
4 - Finally, you mentioned some very handy items but it's not clear
to me how/where to find those in the hex files. I would truly
appreciate your help,

PS - To the user who proudly proclaimed he doesn't approve of
cheating - at least early on - let me say that, while I understand
your point of view, try to understand that it is just one point of
view. There are a wide variety of players out there and everyone
does not appreciate the same things in the same way. Try to be as
tolerant of them and their differences as you would have them be of
you.
