At last I'm free of this game!! hahahahaha! No more late nights
wasted tapping my screen for hours on end!!
I started off playing the Kra'an adventure with a party that
consisted of the Knight (Caleb), the Troglodyte, the thief Heric, the
archer Wytheria, and the Necromancer Ensir. I liked these
characters, so I wanted to see if I could finish the adventure with
them, despite a few messages I saw here -- saying that this party
would be much more difficult to "win" with (than one that had a Dwarf
and a regular Sorceror).
Well I did it, so it can be done. I disagree with the comment that
Kra'an is too tough -- he's tough, but he can be defeated. Took me a
long time, but it is possible. All the characters were 18th level
when I confronted Kra'an for the second time; I spent days killing
wandering monsters until I felt I had gone up as high in levels as I
possibly could.
Now... if only I can persuade myself to stay away from the sequel
adventures long enough to get my sleep cycle back... Dang, that game
is sneaky! For years I've avoided the more elaborate D&D games, like
EverQuest and NeverWinter Nights, since I figured they would take up
too much of my free time. But DragonBane is deceptively simple -- I
kept thinking "It's just a small little Palm computer, it must be a
small dungeon. I'll just go _one or two_ more rooms..." Next thing
I knew it was 3AM, every night for a week.

The tips I saw here were quite crucial: Devote Heric completely
to "Near Foe" during that battle -- with the
occasional "Belligerence" spell thrown in for variety; and also
cast "Berserk" on Kra'an once he's within sword's length. Caleb was
wielding the sword -- I tried it a few times with Tesser wielding the
sword, so that Caleb could also cast "Near Foe," but Tesser just
didn't seem to hit often enough. Caleb finally did.
Of course, "Berserk" spell costs Heric 8-9 points a pop, whereas you
need Heric much more desperately in order to cast "Near Foe". The
solution -- find and save a Wand of Dementia for your wizard to use;
it casts "Berserk". (Also your summoned Elemental will occasionally
cast "Confuse," but that spell seems to fizzle as often as not.) A
necromancer with a Wand of Dementia can actually make a difference in
the battle, instead of just being a passive spectator who heals the
party.
