I'm just letting you know, that due kodak gallery policies of having people pay by month to have your photos saved at their site
all my show photos have been removed the kodak gallery.
Now for some good news: starting tomorrow the show photos will be moved to the Jaguar sector-II gallery
when they are all up I'll let everybody know.

The Video Game Summit Staff is pleased to announce the following news for the 2009 Video Game Summit:
First, The 2600 Challenge tournaments will feature a return of a hero from past shows and and old arcade favorite:
Back in 2003 I did a hack of Activision's Keystone Kapers game called Laserman 2k3,which is a prequel to the Laserman
trilogy, where you as Laserman had to catch Dr. X before he escaped from his lab. you had to avoid missiles, bombs as well
as picking up guns and such. this game made it debut in the 2004 VGS  being shown on emulator thanks to johnny armstrong
then as part of a prize in cart form in 2005 as part of the tournament won by steve lucas.
Now in 2009, Laserman 2k3 is back in cart form along with the it's sequel Laserman.
the Laserman trilogy started back in 1984 when I orginally programed the game for the TI-99/4a, based on Tempest
because being a Tempest fan  I noticed theTI didn't have a Tempest like game, anyways, the game takes place in the past,
when aliens from the future come to 1984 to take over the earth, they tried in the furure but failed because our technology
in the future was more advanced then 1984. we have learned that thier base is located in the Bermuda Triangle .
the only person who can defeat the aliens is the hero from the future "Laserman".
in this game your objective is to shoot down the bombs that the aliens are dropping on you,you are given 3 lives.
There is some difference from the original Ti-game and the 2600 port : the Ti version has speech the 2600 doesn't
and the graphics are bit more different obviously and the Ti version has 5 levels (the current version of laserman on the 2600
only has one)
The Laserman Challenge start out with 6 players playing for top score on Laserman 2k3,
then the top 2 players will play Laserman the one with with the top score will win the two carts with special labels
and a Gift certificate to the AVC news stand. tournament will begin at 2pm at the tournament tables.

Recently at the 2009 Midwest Gaming Classic,Paul "ZimmZamm" Zimmerman has not only turned over the score
on Phoenix on the 2600 but has also set a new record for the game with a score of  1,124,779.
A month later at his house, he has beaten that score with a score of  2,344,018,which was recored and sent to Twin Galaxies.

The Phoenix Challenge is for you to try to beat his scores or at least get the high score of the day.
This is a walk up tournament starting at 11am till 2pm all you have to do is walk up to the tournament tables
sign up and play. you are allowed two practice games before you actual play.
The winner will receive A gift card from the AVC news stand as well as prize from one of our sponsors(TBD).

Second, You can witness history in making by registering online for the show:
The 2009 Video Game Summit is pleased to announce that Paul Zimmerman, will be at the show
to not only beat his two scores, but will also try for 3 million. His attempt will begin two hours before the show starts,
and you can be there to witness it it,just by registering online and you will admitted to the show at 9am.
(His attempt will be recored and sent to Twin Galaxies) We ask you if you plan to take pictures of his attempt
please no flash photogaphy.
(your early addmission also allows you to see the other challenge games being used, before the actual tournamts)

thank you

First let me tell you about the state of Jagfest as it is:
Jagfest at MGC, will done by Marty who will be doing a Atari section at the show.
AVC Online will be having a table at the show displaying the Jagfest issues with the new covers done by the Jagfest cover design contest winners(currently issues #3 and 4 are scheduled to show up( issues #5,6 and 7 might be done by then as well)
We will aso be selling AVC Online and Jagfest On Tour Shirts(VGS shirts will only be
sold at VGS at the shop tables) speaking of the Jagfest cover design contest you can still enter it full deatils
can be found at  http://avc.atari-users.net/index_files/Jagfest_design.html
(AVC Online is a proud supporter of Jagfest since it's first show in 1997 as we were part of it)
Jagfest issue #7 is currently being retooled  to include Jagfest reports up to 2007 as it was the 10th anniversy of Jagfest(the reason for this is because when my hard drive crashed
I lost the PDF version, still have the MS Word version(but incomplete) and I still have the hard copy as well)
Jagfest at VGS will be done differently then Jagfest at MGC:
1. Atari Jagfest Challenge high score tournaments: the following games are being used
for the Challenges: Classic Gorf on the Jaguar CD, it was used last year when Todd Rogers
set the score for Twin Galaxies and then it was beaten by Ken Williams.so it will return for this year.Tempest 2000, a game that has been popular at every Jagfest and Alien Vs. Predator (marine) another popular game for the Jaguar.
(winners of the these games will geta gift certificate for Jagfest item at AVC News Stand)
2. Jagfest Network gathering in the deli 2 hours before the show ends:
since the first Jagfest the Jag network has always been a big thing,so we are going to bring it back, if you have a Jaguar(s), TV's or monitors, Doom, BattleSphere and/or AirCars
and way to network (jaglink,Catbox,Scatbox) you can get a free table, just pay for your admission, all you have to do use the VGS Form and select "Jagfest network" and fill in the information in reguards to the Jagfest network.
(winner of the network games will win a gift certificate for a Jagfest item at news stand)
Now for some VGS news:
Staring this week, We will have the first annual Video Game Summit Cover design contest for the Program. the Program is going be based more on the CGE program with less artcles and more ads. (this contest differes from the Jagfest contest, first you will only be doing the front cover, the back cover is going to be used for ad space to be use by our sponsor for full page ad) For more details: go to
http://avc.atari-users.net/Events/VGS_files/VGS_design.html
When I have more news on VGS I'll be sure to post it.

I don't know how many of you ever went to this show, but there a small commodore /8-bit computer show at the same hotel VGS is located.
I decided to show up to scope out the layout.
and while they had ever table filled, there wasn't a lot of people attending the show(of course the room was already paid for unlike VGS is sole supported by vendors and sponsors and other stuff)
also a couple notes:
1. there was absolutely no signage so nobody knew where it was at unless you've
been there before
2. They didn't use the deli and yet it was free to use.
just thought you would like to know this.
AS for VGS'09 we have some plans to be worked out for 2009 and should be announced
before Nov 5th)

In the tradition that started at CGE and continued into MGC:
AVC Online proudly follows the tradition by not only having an after
the show gathering but as well as
having Pre-show gathering.
the Original plan was to have just an after show gathering at Nickel
City arcade in Northbrook,IL
but Todd Rogers from Twin Galaxies has to leave right after the show,
so we moved it to Friday july 11th
but we also going to have an after the show gathering at Safari Land
in Villa Park,IL.
The full details are still sketchy, but for now we would just like
head count of those who are coming to the show as well as the gatherings

Hello,
I just want to let you know we are approx. 1 year from VGS'08 (decide to move the show back to July for next year, since the first three shows had a good turn out compared to the August show we did last year). So to anybody who was either on committee last year(Corey, Emily,Paul, and Julian)and wants to continue or anybody who wasn't on the committee but wants help out please let me know.
here is the basics right now what the show needs:
1.Sponsorship committee: help contacting potential sponsors(and or vendors)*
2.Raffle/Tournament committee: basically help with the raffles and tourneys**
3.General Help:these are people who will be working with main committee members listed above(also will help with greeting people at main table)
*the main person on Sponsorship committee will have partial access to the eventbrite page
which is sending out the e-mail e-vites from there as receive notices from attendees and view the invoices(and help manage the orders)
** people on this committee have the following jobs:
  1. decide what prize(s) go to either the raffle or tourney
  2. organize the time table for the tourneys(the raffles are going be schedule by me which are usually about every 2 hours)
  3. and keep track of the winners and report them to me or who ever is working the main table when I'm busy)
threes one small detail I left out:(it's basically hinted on the VGS layout page(which isn't going to change unlike last year when it switched three formats)) the raffles are serving a second purpose next year, it's being used as way to pick out contestants for our new game show based on a popular caller game show. can't tell you what it is now because it's going to be officially announced end of the year.
if your interested in becoming part of the committee please e-mail me privately at videogamesummit@... and I will fill you in on more details.
Thank you
Daniel Iacovelli
PS. I've already made a new web banner and buttons for the show we don't have to do that.
also we are going to have new fliers made and a brand new promotional poster based on the TG poster made us for last year.

Justa couple quick updates:
Westchester park district contacted me today(via e-mail)
and as I figured they don't have net access, and they told me no money can change hands
so that leaves out thier place for VGS'08(it also leaves out location for local meetings becvause they don't lease out the place)
Also look for announcemnt for volunteers for VGS'08 after MGC and CGE, I plan to
announce the location and date around that time as well(plus a few changes to register for tables and such)
